  1. Oooh, nice brown, we're talking a good winter for this fish. Gavin's right, your river is catching up, if not surpassing the big browns on the Current. The prototypes will be launched this coming Sunday Brian. Great fish!
  2. Lotsa browns, very nice boys!
  3. Nice work boys.
  4. Here's one for Current R. at Montauk, not as detailed. It's not a bad guide. http://www.missouriscenicrivers.com/hatchchart.html

Another good trip in the books Gavin!
  6. Congrats! That length x girth = 7.3 lbs.! Yikes!
  7. Beautiful fish, uh, boat, yeah, the boat's nice...
  8. Dare I ask what flies? Let's see, uh, scuds....? Monster fat browns...(jealousy, envy...)
  9. A father/son team were doing this in upper Tan Vat, through the whole stretch down to the parking lot on 10/10 when I fished the stretch. I didn't know what they were doing, but after this description, it seems like that was it.
  10. Thanks for the indicator idea Gavin, hmmm. A fellow Current angler also swears by longer leaders, 12'+.
  11. 9 ft. 4X mono leader, 5X fluorocarbon tippet to first fly, depending on it's size, 5X or 6X to the dropper, flouro also. Vary your dropper length depending on how deep you are fishing, all under a Thingamabobber, that size varies also. It's super low water now, unless the rains bring it up a little, if any. I use flouro in re-building the leader also, so some are 3-4' flouro.

    That last brown is excellent.
  13. Too many people fishing on Sunday 10 October. Tan Vat parking lot had 5 vehicles and 3 guys rigging up. Went to Parker, only two fish to show. Back upstream of Tan Vat, got 'crowded' by park 'fishermen', right up to me, 10' away, drifting their egg patterns into my drift, (WTF? We're not in the park here!) Got away from them upstream. Had some action on midges. Returned back to my original hole and got some decent 'bows on RL w. SJW dropper. Also had some luck with the same rig with different droppers under through the boulders. Found beer cans and styrofoam night crawler holders at the 'bluff hole' above Parker. Between these things and a long dry spell with no fish--10AM -2PM, it was a challenging day. A strong finish saved it though.
  14. Sorry about your encounter with a sub-standard 'citizen.' But, excellent photos, especially the beautiful brown on the hopper.
  15. Way to go Chance! You boys did well, excellent 'bows in the pictures, and the 'net' pic was excellent.
  16. Chance, the river will fish better if it rises and get slightly off color, in my humble opinion. You guys should do well. Watch for beavers, muskrats and minks in the upper TV, they watched me fish. The flat tails were skittish, but the minks were curious. Once again, good luck, and have fun at camp when the fishing's done
  17. Thanks guys. The river wasn't as up as I thought it would be. PM fishing wasn't that great compared to the morning. The fishing picked up in the shady spots. We need a little more rain in the drainage to the Current. No love for any terrestrials thrown in the PM. This river is great in it's 'no guarantee' character, not any one fly is the ticket, depending on time of day and time of the year. So, anyone can hook up, depending... Later, fanatics
  18. Best day ever for me. Switching up flies finally scored a big fish. The Jedi and I hit Tan Vat at around 7AM or so on Sunday. No one at the parking lot. Worked up and caught a couple of 'bows. Jedi hustled to the slick/riffle farther up. I met him and caught the 5Sept. brown on midge. Worked up catching a few beautiful 'bows, nicely colored up. Jedi did the same. Tricos were coming off so he went back downstream to fish the slick again. I worked up into the main boulder run. Third cast thru with a #10 rubber legs and #16 olive RF caddis poopah dropper that brought the big male brown. He fought hard and took me downstream. I was praying that he wouldn't shake me and my tippet would hold. What a beauty. Someone wrote on a fly fishing blog that you 'earn' the fish. A lot of studying/tying/learning paid off. Caught another nice stocker 'bow above the boulders along with several nice 10-12" 'bows, then we broke for lunch. Headed downstream from TV and fished 'The Wall' as we call it. Not a lot of love there, only a few 10" 'bows. Worked up into the nice riffle/rocks and stuck the other beauty brown on a midge again, under a red CJ. He was 16" and nicely colored. Worked back catching a few, tired and happy. Thanks to all of you who post and discuss. Once again, what a great river.
  19. Good work, way to stay in the fight w/o a net.
  20. All good advice, get the fly or flies down. It is tougher water than upper Tan Vat. You should watch your drifts and try not to spook the fish also. Good luck1

    Awsome

OK44, you boys ease up on these MO trout now, stinging mouths and howling at the moon back at camp..."Settle down now!" Leave some for me and the Jedi. I don't know if I can swing this coming weekend, daughter starts kindergarten on Tuesday and the Professor(wife) needs help because she's getting ready for classes to start. Good luck if you boys come over!

    Awsome

Dang! Nice chunky browns. Nice work there. I bet it helps to be there during the week with less pressure from fishermen. Excellent browns!
  23. What's up OK? I'm tying smaller hoppers and variations of the Chubby Chernobyl to try. Did pretty well last weekend with two new flies that shall remain nameless for now...heh heh...river was low, fish a bit sluggish after morning. Hope it rises up a little soon, 90 cfs is too low IMO.
  24. Nice work! I was hoping that a hopper/dropper rig would start up. Guess I know what I'll be using soon...
  25. Nice shots of our fave river. Gotta take more scenery shots. Good work.
