  1. I agree with Phil, I have never caught a green sunfish on upper BS or what I would consider walleye waters. I find the green sunfish more abundant in the creeks as well as anwhere on tablerock that there are ledge rock.
  2. Hey SAM, Was that your boat that went down at the Pothole on BS. You mentioned putting a new motor on your boat and re organizing it. Just curious. Bill I may see you at the pothole Saturday if i don't go down to long creek and chase crappie. This is one of those weeks that I'd imagine the crappie getting fired up on the flats.
  3. Fished Sunday in a small Benifit Tourney, It was out of Ahoy's in Kimberling. We didn't do good at all an that was a common occurance among others. Fishing was awful for everybody. Winners weighed in a limit but im not sure wear and how. We saw Lots of shad as well in the 40-60 foot range as well, with fish under them. Couldnt get any takers.
  4. Speaking of keeping fish....you have to catch them first. I fished the pothole last night 2/16/07 and again this morning. Didn't have a fish. There were a couple of other boaters up there and the only thing I saw caugh was a carp. It may have been a walleye. We fished, sliders, jerk baits, maribou jigs and also drifted crawlers......all with no takers. We the weather warming up next week things should pick up. Also, I didn't see as many shad this weekend as I did last weekend. Rumor has it that the fishing was great before the shad became so abundant....hopefully now that there are fewer shad the fish will get hungry agian.
  5. Hey Polock, me and my buddy from west plains almost came to your neck of the woods to try our luck on some smallies. We've never fished the river in the winter and we didn't wan't to take his jet boat on the maiden voyage of 07 to the river. we didn't have a lot of confidence. We ended up going to Norfork Lake drop shottin and draggin football jigs and proceeded to not catch a fish. probably should have came to the river and seen what van buren area had to offer. Rumor has it the fishing is really good around big spring this time of year.
  6. I went to the Pothole one last week i'm not sure what day it was. I saw only one truck at the boat ramp at about 7:00 P.M. As I was motoring up the lake I noticed a foreign object. It was the bow of a boat sitting out on the flat just down stream from Silver Creek. If any of you folks have fished by boat around the rock pile near the dam durring such high water you can relate to the kind of eddie type current that pulls your boat towards the spillway. I immediatlly called "911" and reported the boat and dispatch told me that they were aware of the situation and water patrol was on the way. We kept our eyes pilled and ended up talking with water patrol and he stated that the gentleman was un-accounted for, we helped search the shorline for the rest of the evening all the way back down the river run side only to find nothing. I haven't heard any status on this but im assuming the fisherman made it too the shore......if anybody is aware of this keep us posted. This is a slap in the face Reminder to wear a life jacket when navigating waters such as the pothole at night.
  7. Im planning on going out this evening. Not sure where im gonna head, i'll be fishing from the bank though. I'll keep you posted. I will either fish above swan creek or around the pothole. It should be getting pretty good around there. Im planning on taking the boat out on night this week.
  8. Coyote----I posted one for you on the Bullshoals section..... Its not too exact. I forgot to mention, If you fish durring the day, a slider is also a good bait as well as a Salt and Pepper 3" Tube. I like to fish the tube if there is a little bit of color. I've had my best luck on tubes on the bank just above swan creek. When you go to the water pretend you are fishing for Whites or Crappie and you will probably catch Walleye. If you go for walleye you will end up catching a trout. Good luck.
  9. The only advise I know is to not give up on the illusive Walley. For me they are by no doubt the fish of a thousand casts, and when i mean a thousand casts you will loose atleast a dozen Jerk Baits. My best advise is to throw a stick bait. I have had good luck on several colors. Clown is one of my favorites. Night time is the best, and when the water is running you will have better luck. This is a good pattern though March. A lot of guys don't even fish if the water isn't running, I have about a 20 minute drive to the Walleye hole so I make it worth my while if the water isn't running. I'll throw a purple swimming minnow after dark or some type of white grub if it is just before Dark. Im by no means a master angler of Walley or any other species but they are in my opinion one of the most trophy fish we have in our area of the Tri-Lakes. Last year was one of my best years as far as numbers whereas the year before it seemed like I found more size. Good luck
  10. Now that Bow season has came to a close what better of a time than to fish one of the best tournaments in the area. Not to mention a fun time on the water, the best part is the food afterwards. The food alone is worth the entry fee. Besides the great fellowship with other anglers and and excuse to be on the water for 8 hours, this tournament is full of guys who will tell you what they used and how they used it. I have learned a lot over the last few tournament that I have fished. I would recommend this to anybody. This tournament is open to anbody. See the details below...... http://ozarkanglers.com/masters_07.html With so much water generation and cold weather, I anticipate that this tournament will be great. Thanks for putting on such a great tournament and feeding our faces with great food. Looking forward to seeing you folks this weekend
  11. I have seen this boat and If i didnt have one almost identical I would buy it myself. It is an all around Center Console boat with a lot of room. It would make a great boat.
  12. There were lots of beautiful fish weighed in, the largest was around 3.5 lbs. To refute the idea of tournaments being a negative impact on a river, there is no reason to get ill over this idea. Think of it this way. Of the 200 fish that were weighed in only 3 or 4 didn't make it and that was due to them swallowing the lure too deep. Keep in mind that it was opening weekend of Bass season on the river. Those 200 bass that were caught and released 197 survivors lived to see another day instead of ending up in the fish basket of a floater who wanted to have smallmouth bass for a shore lunch. Anglers are pentalized for dead fish and aerators are a requirement, It was a great time
  13. The Current River Tournament was an incredible success as far as fun and the experience. The cost of the tourney was 7am through 5pm $70 per boat and they had 25 boats. It is my assumption that most were locals. We had almost 10 lbs, and that was without a trolling motor for the remainding 7 hours of the tourney. Without a trolling motor on a river is virtually impossible, if we anchored we got hung, if we drifted we couldn't stay were we needed to be. The winners had nearly 19lbs, incredible stringer of 8 river smallies. It was a great learning experience and a chance to meet H.S. Struts spokesman Alex Rutledge which got 5th place and his brother which got 1st place and big bass. Winner had almost 19lbs. There is another tourney on the 24th.....casey and I will probably give that one a whirl as well. $70 isn't bad for an education This was a great group of guys who really know their stuff. Soft plastics were the ticket, green pumkin was our color of choice.
  14. Fished this afternoon down at beaver in the maiden hole. Wow, talk about the wind. We must have been crazy. Saw several fish caught by some fellers on the bank. We caught 7 Thumper Sow's and one black crappie (keeper). Used a + 1/4 oz rooster tail, when I could get the blade to spin and the others were caught on a variety of things. Smoke swimin minnow, husky jerk, etc. We didn't catch enough fish to establish a pattern but we caught the majority around 5 or 6 than we did right before dark. This was stange for Beaver Creek. I am assuming that we fished too low, Should have bank fished upstream................ Any Reports upstream?
  15. Launched at Gages marina this morning, fished some good cuts along bluffs all of the way toward Arkansas. Pack up and went to cricket/Long area. Didn't have any luck. Talk about second guessing your fishing abilities, Apil 2 water temp 63 degrees, what more could you ask for. and only 1, 5" large mouth. I would have been better off bow hunting for unicorns. Thats what I get for skipping out on church.
