  1. Yep, I've been ruined. I'm looking forward to next winter using the Ned as a follow-up to the tube.
  2. What happens most of the time is your rod tip will get heavy, similar to a snag, fish will eat it like it's bait, they swim off with it at a slow pace and they hold onto it. Another nice feature with the small hooks, is if the fish is deeply hooked, you can get the hook out without causing damage. I've also learned not to use an eye-crossing hook set, that will usually pull it out of their mouth - just need to lift the rod tip.
  3. Good deal, that looks like it was a lot of fun!
  4. Great fishing, thanks for sharing!

  6. You don't have to be skilled at bite detection with the Ned, fish just load up on it. Not as snaggy as bottom stuff like c-rigs and t-rigs. If you're fishing with less skilled folks like kids you can go crazy trying to keep them unsnagged if they're fishing that bottom stuff. And it just flat catches fish. As far as walleye, they'll eat that Ned. After you're done catching them with the spoons and jigs, throw it as a follow up bait.
  7. I haven't tried the Kong, but sounds like it wants to dive. Not trying to talk you into another bait, but I picked up a Jackall Mikey this year, it's similar to the Kong, but it does wake. I plan to fish it this spring. I threw it for a bit a couple of weeks ago and did get a hook-up on it. I did notice that at the start of the retrieve after a long cast, the Mikey is a little tricky to get waking, you have to start slow and get as much line off the water as you can (high rod tip). That was on mono, braid probably works better.
  8. It's been a windy spring this year. Forecasters are saying Monday afternoon we could get some heavy rain.
  9. Good deal.
  10. Mitch, I see that you live in O'Fallon. There's a leash law and ordinances concerning vicious animals. http://www.ofallon.mo.us/PD/animal-control-park-patrol
  11. Did you report this to LEO or the animal control folks? I'd do it just to get it on record. I'd also find out what the law says about the legal implications of someone protecting their property, children etc., from vicious dogs entering their property. If you've got kids, this dog is a real threat.
  12. From what I can determine by reading some stuff, is that the bass eye cannot see the color purple. It appears to them to be a shade of gray. At least that's what the people who study that kind of stuff say. But it does work at times, I like it on a drop shot also.
  13. Thanks for the heads up, it time to start keeping a top water set up on the deck.
  14. Good deal Nitro, happy to see you and the missus had a great day!

Yeah I thought the Chefs would grab a WR with their first pick.
  16. Great stuff, glad to hear you had a good trip.
  17. I fished the afternoon shift today, I usually get out early, fish the morning, and then leave early afternoon, but the weatherman was warning that there might be some morning storms today, so I launched at 11:30 Am and fished until 6:30 PM. The early afternoon bite was a bit slower than what has been the norm lately, I was able to pick up fish here and there by fishing in coves around timber, keeping my bait in the 5 -10 foot zone. I was by myself so I could keep the boat parallel to the bank in about 10 FOW and cast over the bow and work the water in front of me. Mostly catching large mouth, using a light Carolina rig with a Zoom Finesse worm in Old Purple. No big bass, but an occasional keeper. Lots of fish on beds in the coves, and I was getting lots of squirrely bites where they'd pick it up and move it, and drop it. About 4 PM, the bite really picked up, started getting spots on the rocky points to add to the large mouth. Still most fish were on the Old Purple worm. I did get about a half dozen on the Ned rig, the Ned gave me my only smallie and a mean mouth, both keeper sized. Ended up with 30 or so, biggest was a 3lb. spawned out large mouth. Water temps were 67 - 70, could see bottom in 8 FOW, so it's getting a little clearer.

That pick surprised me also, but after watching that Colts game last year where KC could not generate a pass rush in the 2nd half, I can see the logic of this pick. I like the Ram's picks, if Bradford can stay healthy and put together a good year, they could be tough.
  19. Glad to hear you found a good bite, sure is fun catching them on the rig.
  20. Looking at the radar, the front that's about to move through stretches from Minnesota down into Mexico. Unusual to see one that long north to south.
  21. I started throwing a Strike King 3XD a bit this spring, I'm not making any claims that it's better than a Wart, but it's a good bait to try when the Wart bite is on. Sure would like it if SK would copy some of the Wart colors like Ghost Green/Brown craw and that V-38.
  22. I can't go back and edit my posts. This function has worked in the past, but not for the last couple of days. I hit the edit button, text temporarily disappears, the page goes into the "waiting" mode until I exit out. Anyone else notice this? Well this is weird - just started working again.

The whole Manziel thing sure has created a lot of drama for this draft. I think he's a tough competitor and will play hard, but there's that injury risk associated with his style of play.
  24. Boat traffic is annoying and makes me crazy some days, but early in the summer, you can fish steep chunk rock banks that have constant boat surf crashing into them and find a good bite.
