  1. Interesting little local story that is drawing some statewide attention. KKK wants to put leaflets on cars in the Cape Girardeau area later this month. They feel the statue that prohibits this is a violation of their Freedom of Speech. I personally don't care who it is, I don't want any crap placed on my personal property. Even if it is parked in a public parking place, it is still my personal property and I don't want anyone monkeying with it. I think most feel the same way. They could damage the wiper, scuff the paint, or if it blows off it litters the lot where they do it causing more problems for the persons that own those parking lots. I would feel the same way if it was a church, pizza place, or a gunshow. They are placing advertisement for their gain on my personal property and I respect the law that prohibits it. Our law allows it with the owners consent. I really don't see how the ACLU could see it any other way. If they want to get the word out, mail it, post it on public bulletin boards, stand there and hand out flyers person to person, get a billboard, or take out a radio ad like all other businesses that solicitate advertisement. What they are distributing is pure advertising like all of the rest, not free speech. There is a monetary gain for them in the form of new membership dues. Lets watch and see what happens with this one. They have won out in a few other places. http://www.semissourian.com/story/1891713.html
  2. Tornado Alley activated again tonight, out west and heading this way again.... Our farm got chewed up pretty good again last night, trees topped, board fences lain over, power out all over the area. I was out estimating storm damage this afternoon in the Marble Hill area that got hit last night. Mostly straight line winds this time.
  3. No pounds of honey this year, only a few pounds stored in the main hive. Bees have been on an IV for the last 4 weeks and in survival mode, I have been feeding sugar water. I was really worried yesterday, I opened the hive for an inspection and did not find any capped brood. Capped brood is backup bees in cocoons waiting to transform into adults. There was some new young larva and eggs and lots of fresh pollen. I called a fellow beekeeper and he calmed me down, he was seeing the same thing in many of his 200+ hives. That last dry spell kept anything from blooming, which meant no pollen. They need pollen to feed the young developing bee larva. Production shut down till the rain started Friday. I am only shooting for enough bees to cluster and get thru the winter. If they make it, they should be a strong bunch to takeoff next spring. Things have greened up and started blooming as soon as the rain fell. 1 in 3 bees coming into the hive has been carrying pollen, the others are carrying water or nectar. They need water to cool the hive on these hot days. After this storm passes, cooler weather will follow and maybe some honey stores with it. I picked up over an inch tonight so far, more coming down.
  4. The evidence was he hit her and killed her. The wounds on her body could have been caused by a slip in the tub, or they could have been from him whacking her one. Remember, just is just the third wife, they exhumed the body and re evaluated. There is no body on the 4th wife. Nothing surprises me coming out of that state. If I was on trial, I would want to be judged on real evidence, not "Hearsay". Hearsay can go down so many different roads.
  5. A landmark case, someone convicted of murder based on second hand opinions of non witnesses. Illinois even passed a law to get the case to go to trial. What is happening to the world today? Yes, it does look suspicious. 4 wives dead or disappeared. But, without actual evidence, allowing someone to testify against you based on their opinion of you is really not Constitutional in my opinion. http://news.yahoo.com/jury-convicts-drew-peterson-3rd-wifes-death-194658507.html
  6. Pounds of rain? Second time in a week the sirens have wailed thru here. Storm blew threw without any reported tornado's this time. Several were spotted down south last Friday.
  7. I am a small frame guy, 5'8" 155 lbs and the 3 1/2 mags don't really seem much worse than a regular load with my Super X2. I use 3" for ducks, 3 1/2 for geese and turkeys. When set up on a turkey, there is a recovery time shooting the 3 1/2 inch, the upward bounce takes time for you to get back on target. When shooting from a blind or boat, I really don't notice the difference.
  8. Reporting from deep in the bunker off the hard line. Multiple storms are being tracked with rotation. Black as night outside and temp has dropped 25 degrees. Fortunately, it is going south of me. Why can't we just get a nice gentle rain? Been watching it build all afternoon up north in the Perryville area. Came home and sowed some clover and alfalfa for the bees. It was still and hot, very muggy. Getting some wind and a nice rain.
  9. Next question, Gavin, will you clean my armadillo if I shoot it? I tried cleaning a turtle once, a big softshell. Never tried again. 3 pounds of cleaned meat, I may have to catch 2 or more. So far, no luck.
  10. Shortbed, longbed. V8 or V6. Regular or ext cab?
  11. What is the performance range on a Zero Weight fly rod. Designed for size 32 Dries 5' in front of you? I have fished some light stuff, I have a One Ounce 4 wt, but it has its limitations.
  12. Ok, I will sterilize the trap if I catch one. Gonna have to save it for Gavin, I think he is wanting to try a recipe.
  13. I have eat possum and coon, BBQ'd, its greasy. I have never tried groundhogs, but they are a clean animal and would probably be good eatin. I wonder what the flesh looks like on a dillo?
  14. Lets have it, I am curious. Have you ate one?
  15. I am not quite sure they carry leprosy, I think they just use them as lab rats as incubators for the disease. I don't think they carry it in the wild. I really don't plan on handling them much. I have read when scared they will spray a putrid runny diarrhea at you. I am not going to play around with them, just eliminate.
  16. Our little buddies from Texas have invaded my space, digging up all of those Jap Beetle grubs that have also invaded. I have been seeing them on the game cam lately. When I almost twisted an ankle the other night in one of their hole, I decided it was time to do something. Research on the net revealed that they do not respond to bait traps. The only way to catch them is to funnel them into a trap. They have poor eyesight and wander along smelling for grubs and worms, You build a little fence to guide them into a trap. Sat. while shopping, I came across some cheap gutter guard at Big Lots. 20' roll for $2.50. Picked up some long bamboo skewers in the BBQ section to use for posts for another $1.50. I now have a 40' funnel to guide the little buggers into a live trap I already had. It has been out for a few nights without any luck. I reset in an area they worked last night in hopes that I will have better luck. Here you go Justin.
  17. So, how did it weather the storm?
  18. Do they use fishing line for abortions now? I thought it was coathangers.
  19. And fishing fair on worms in the evening. ... I did not receive the survey. The last one I participated was the duck zone, season one last fall. Final results, MDC decided no matter what they did, they could not make everyone happy, so they left it as it was.
  20. This drought has affected the garden, my bees, and my normal outdoor summer recreation. Most of the streams I fish are just trickles. I have left them alone. Camping has been dampered by not being able to have a camp fire. About 1 in 3 bees hitting the landing pad today were loaded with pollen. The rain has perked everything up around here today. Grass is greener, garden is not wilted.
  21. August has been a dry month for the bees. I have gotten rid of all my pests and did all I could for my hive's health. The rest was up to mother nature. We did have one small rain a few weeks back and the inspection of the hive revealed many new eggs. Wed., I opened up and looked in only to find a few sealed brood and no new egg laying. The number of bees in the hive have dwindled to around 20,000, about a third of what I would expect for this time of the year. But no flowers equal no pollen for them to feed the young, There was none stored on the combs that I could find. This morning they are out in force gathering pollen. Pollen is needed as their growth food. Honey and nectar is just for adults. I hope it helps them start laying again. Otherwise I am going to have to buy some more bees and a stronger queen to get them thru the winter that is coming soon. Flowers are blooming in the garden this morning, marigolds and zinnias. Squash and okra are blooming also. Rain gauge is at 1 3/4 inch. I would like to see that double before the weekend is over, but the sun is out now. Note the different colors of pollen they are collecting, who knows from which flower it comes from. Hummingbird activity is up too, feeders are getting a good workout.
  22. Since Jackson was hit a few years back and Oak Ridge just north of it gets pounded about once a year now with a tornado, people are skittish when they hear them sirens. I like to make the decision myself looking at the radar and listening to NWS weather radio. But they got our attention and I used the other tools to reason that there was not anything coming. The radar at the time was not showing anything strong, and we did not get anything strong. I think they based it on a report of a rotating cloud from a weather spotter yesterday in a small town about 20 miles west of where we were.
  23. On that we both agree, sorry I took it the wrong way. I for one believe in the training, but I do not feel you need to be licensed to carry or hide it all of the time.
  24. Unfortunately the last on stage is the one that does not inspire. His only hope is that he may be better than what is there now. The rest of the show showed some promise. Ole Dirty Harry is 82 and cracking them out without a script.
