  1. Go for it, no reason to lose it if you pass the test.
  2. Was it near Oak Ridge, could have been subtle nuclear glow? Birthplace of all nuclear power in the US.
  3. I was going to refresh my memory but apparently the USGS no longer has a website. That was whacked by DOGE cuts... Trout were native to many areas historically, but Global Warming since the last Ice Age made the areas we know them what they are today. They were natural on the west coast and the east coasts. The original Mc Cloud strain stocked in MO came from California by train.
  4. They were flooded out in the spring flood that took the railroad bridge just past it downstream with a train sitting on it waiting for a tornado to pass. I was a major flood event. Originally, the Federal hatchery was raising Stripers and Smallmouth along with other projects in the ponds. The trout were just being used as food for the Stripers. But things had shifted since the Clinton years and they were back to trout.
  5. Probably won't risk contamination of the locals from outside sources. Hinkle was quarantined in the past from a copepod infestation. The could not deliver trout to White or Norfork. That system has naturally reproducing stock of brown and possibly other species of trout. Can't risk killing them. The trout programs are really jacked up when you look at how they manage them in every state. They are a stocked fish 90 percent of the places they exist in the lower states. They were introduced in Missouri and Arkansas by man. Maybe some native trout in the Smokies of Ky and Tn, but rest are state and farm raised.
  6. And the Federal Hatchery at Mammoth Spring. But Mammoth Spring and Jim Hinkle took a hit this spring in a bad flood. Not sure if they have made repairs and are producing fish again. 2 weeks ago, Jim Hinkle looked about the same as it did back in May.
  7. Thats the one that monitors the spring, not the river. Not sure if that is a good indicator of flow. There used to be one on the Hwy 19 bridge, but it has been offline for years. Stuck with Bardley. That being said, caught a nice 20 inch walleye below the state line Saturday. Bass were slow and small. We went Myrtle down for the first time in the jet boat. Hot and bass were very picky. This link works to the monitor site https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/USGS-07071000/#dataTypeId=continuous-00065-0&period=P7D
  8. Where do you find the Greer Gauge? All USGS shows any more is Bardley. I thought they took it offline years ago during the great reduction of gauges.
  9. I love gills but always fish in the spring on beds. I guess you found where they go afterwards. Good trip
  10. I had a little DC Igloo back in early 90's when I camped in popup. Ran great off invertor and shore power, keep cool on road on 12v car power. But if you stopped for an hour, you had to unplug or it would suck truck battery dry. Worked great for food, always kept drinks on ice cooler. My buddies have new versions like yours. Power management has improved greatly, same as the cost. My only gripe is the weight, they are heavy.
  11. Yes they do. All projects usually have a web page tracking them somewhere. But there is nothing in my scope of work or area of operation there, so I did not look at it. I have bid some stuff to them as a sub, but they go after anything with state dollars. I have never been involved with them, I am seldom the low bidder. I sell upper end high quality. They just popped up on one down here in SEMO that I am involved in. Doubt if they could beat any of the locals that are qualified. Bid jobs are a crap shoot. There are contractors that specialize in taxpayer dollar jobs and toss out numbers hoping that they will allow them to add more to it later. But, times are changing and dollars are tight. But, low bidder has to get the contract per the rules.
  12. Low bidder does not always give the best work. But that is how the game is played.

    Peanuts!

We grew peanuts one summer in the garden as a kid, roasted them in the oven after marinating in a salt bath. Tasty. Another local farmer grew them on a larger scale and supplied my Grandpa's little General Store. They were good also. A local orchard and produce store had the bulk ones that I really liked. Cajun and regular salted. Never knew where they got them and when they retired, they have been gone forever. Those Cajun ones are hard to find.
  14. Probably wanted to help fix the tractor.
  15. Bad Crawfish in the Gumbo?
  16. Nice fish. I never could figure out how to thread the cream style corn on a hook, so, I never used it. I like it when the Angels are flying, they come around here ever 5 years or so.
  17. I think the marine stuff uses a different com cable from the normal computer stuff. May even be serial type connection. If you had the pinout for the com signals, you could make a custom cable.
  18. Good job. Still have a chance to bring home the bacon..
  19. Peach Fur Bugs and black foam beetles, I feel as I may have met you there and discussed flies. My fur bug has some of my buddy Rick's beard in it along with other things and a subtle orange thread. Black foam beetles were killer, and I use them on many trips. Have to have an orange dot on top for an indicator. I have stayed away from the MO. trout streams this year since the flood. And really, not fished much at all. That is changing this weekend I hope.
  20. Probably shot something and sit the gun down to go find it. Then forgot where he sit the gun down, and never found it. Its called "buck fever".
  21. Fell for that cute little lizard thing at the store did ya? People forget they get bigger as they get older. I remember my little Iguana sitting on my finger when I got him. He was a vegetarian. Just Romaine lettuce, no squealing. But when he was about 4 foot long and had a tail like a whip that would pop you when startled, time to go too. Reptiles were fun, green snakes, small black rat snakes were kept from the wild. Fence lizards were always friendly and easy to keep. Anoles were fickle and picky about food. I had Gerbils too, the pinkies were always frozen to feed the snakes. I never let them get very big. I never found a small speckled king snake. Just the 4 footers, tame and let you pick them right up. But I never tried to cage them. Was not going to handle the copperheads live to feed them in a terrarium.
  22. Looks good. I have a new under lever Umarex 22 sitting around that needs to be sited in. Spring air, but solid barrel to breech. Supposed to be accurate. I still like a .22 lr for the tree rats, but I have killed them with the pellets when I was too young for powder rifles. https://www.umarexusa.com/umarex-synergis-elite-22-2251514
  23. That was a black headed vulture.
  24. Looks more like a Playgirl model. Pretty sure that's a dude with long hair.
  25. Here are some of the swizzle sticks laying around the body of water I visited today.
