Before and After - November 2024 Rain Event
jdmidwest replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Chat
Montauk looks pretty bad. Park is closed for a while. https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/state-and-regional/floodwater-overruns-montauk-state-park-trout-hatchery-in-south-central-missouri/article_f65219a8-9c8f-11ef-baa1-57ce2a40660b.html -
Before and After - November 2024 Rain Event
jdmidwest replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Chat
I saw pics of Montauk Park. Upper fish runs in C&R area under water and lake levee bank full of muddy water. Lower fish runs looked like they were breached and full of muddy water. Main hatchery bldg basement flooded and water in building. May be complete fish loss. -
Mike sold Hufstedlers. We camped there back in Sept and the new owner did not seem to know much about fishing. What about Brian Schlosser, did he leave out of 11pt after he sold 11pt Canoe to Mike or did he stick around and still guide?

Trackers have the grease zirk fitting on the axle hub. I looked it over, and it squirts grease in the bearing, somewhat. I still strip them down and repack every season or next. 19 years on bearings is probably a long time. Depends on how far you pull your boat. A good indicator is tires. Most Bias tires only last a season for me, radials up to 3 or 4 years. Bearing inspection and replacement is about the same schedule. You can usually see the slop in the bearings with tire wear, unless the bearing lets go prematurely.

No HO Ho hoes for you this year, Ba Humbug...... Good thing they did not activate you for all of this flooding going on. It was a miserable mess in Swampeast Missouri today. I was onsite at an Aluminum plant all day in full PPE and rain, it was damp to say the least. Not even good duck hunting weather.

It is almost 2017 again over here, west of Highway 67. It peters out to a sprinkle and I ended up with 3" on the farm and only a slight rise in the creek of about 2 ft. Most river gauges on the other side have come up 15 to 16 feet. Montauk was at 13.4 this morning, now reads 999999999999999. So does Akers on the Current River. It was a freak rain that hung out in a line.

Montauk gauge is showing 13.4 ft this morning, good thing main season is over. St. Francis at Patterson is up over 16ft in last 24 hours just west of me. My little creek just has normal flooding with about 3" of rain. Most of the rise came from upstream around Fredricktown from rain there.

Chewed it up good. Looks pretty dry.

They will probably burn you out of your house you ole Missouri Hillbilly... Funny thing, my buddy was wanting to catch a brown on the White River this summer on a company sponsored guide trip. He is not a bait fisher and is used to spin casting lures to trout. But the guide was hung over and he "forgot" to thaw out his shad stash. So, he was lost, used to taking out baitfishers and did not help my buddy any. Kept him tossing bait to the rainbow stockers for entertainment. Even made fun of the flyfishing guides going by. Trout fishing on spin gear and lures can be very rewarding. Much like casting the long rod and flies. I prefer spin gear when floating. Flyrods are best from a standing position anymore for me.

This drought we have been having has them searching for stores all over. Surprised I have not seen any robbing going on. This was the driest fall I have seen since I was in my second year of bees, 2013. They have cut down bee populations prepping for a bad winter. My bee counts are pretty low, did not have alot of bearding going on late in the summer.
-
Not many beekeepers make it past the first 2 years. They find it can be alot of work and is rather expensive and time consuming. But it is an interesting hobby.

Interesting how things were done back then. Now it would be many millions, poorly designed, and obsolete by the time it was finished several years later after conception.

New State Record Drum, maybe.

We had talked about running down to Wilson in Florence Alabama for his birthday, but that did not work out. Supposedly the fish are bigger and better at Muscle Shoals. We never had a chance this year to hit Nickajack or Chicamauga this year together. He is going there this weekend with another friend. See how that goes. -

Looks like I was a little shy of the 54 lbs 8 oz from Nickajack in 72. Maybe there is a Flicker Shad class for State Records. -

Green pumpkin orange flake tender tube. Buddy backed off the trolling motor to tie a lure on after a breakoff. I took over the front and dropped it off the shelf point we were coming up on. Just mouthed it and started swimming. I gave it nudge and he took off and set hook himself. Went down to fish with him on his birthday and ended up putting the hurt on him all day. But, as usual, we had fun. -

Flicker Shad size 6 white with black back and spot on side.... They started hammering them about a half hour before sunset that nite. They were bringing units online and water was coming up. -
Well, it was 8 1/2 lbs. The bass was 6 lbs 1 Oz. Short fat one 19" long. Did Pickwick Lake on Sat. Water temp still 70 and shad balls at 5' deep in middle of deep coves. Nothing showing under them. Several shorts, couple of 2-3 lb smallies, several large drum late before sunset on cranks. Nice fall day

Pretty light, 4 gallons out of 3 hives. Pretty sad, most said too wet this spring and they could not forage well.
-
There is lifting involved. Boxes weigh 50-60 lbs. With bees and honey in them.
-
Slightly more work than worms... And, they bite back when you feed them.
-
Sounds pretty good for that lake, only been on it twice. Looks like it has potential.

I have never trailed the Pickle Creek down, but I have always thought it was a slightly wade able stream. I never knew you could launch a boat and float it. We have used the CA for photo ops in the shut in area.

What time is that visible? I forgot to look for that this week.

The moon did not help. We did drive out away from most city lights for the view.
