  1. I'll be down there all day Saturday and Sunday morning till noon probably with a buddy and maybe his dad too. I'll be wearing some green neoprene waders that have a big patch of white goop on the left knee pad. If you see the white patch, give me a holler. If my friends father takes his boat, then we will be up in the trophy area in a silver aluminum Legend with a 40 horse on the back. Just look for a big guy and two smaller fellers in it.
  2. Thanks!
  3. I was able to pull the grip off without using any how water. If I wanted to just glue it back on, do I need to clean blank and the inside of the reel seat first? I want to reuse the old handle now if I can.
  4. After reading the recipe sheet and the name of this fly pattern, I just had to snicker a bit. I guess I am just immature lol.
  5. 1. Where do I go to view the trout cam again? 2. What do you charge for boat rentals? 3. Would a person not staying at your resort be able to rent a boat for a day?
  6. I'm all wound up to go snag some spooners down on the James River opening night. Is anybody else getting wound up too? Duckman, I know your a huge snagging fan, what are your plans the first week? You hitting Schell Osage again? I'm darn sure going to make the drive up there and hit some bills this year. I might see if I could meet up with you on a weekend your snagging and have you show me around the area. I'm going to buy me a new snagging rig as soon as I get paid this month too. My eyes are set on a 15 surf rod and reel and I'm gonna spool it up with some 100lbs/20lbs dia. White Power Pro. That Power Pro is some good stuff!!
  7. Finally an actual shad kill? I hope it continues on till this weekend so I can get a part of it. Phil, if you got fishing, let us know if you see any shad up there.
  8. What time of year do the orange scuds do the best? I've only had mediocre luck on them when I tried them. My buddies dad went down to taney last summer and said that orange was just hammering them at that time. Leonard, I thought about an olive with a spot of orange scud pattern, but haven't tried it yet. Is it too early for that to work well? You said you prefer it in early summer.
  9. I took a rod building class about 6 or 7 years ago and we got a Sage 9ft 6wt blank donated for using. Well I didn't do a very good job and now my reel seat is really loose and my fly reel is always turning. What I would like to do is remove the western style cork grip and the reel seat and install a full wells grip and a new reel seat with a fighting butt. I want to turn this into a good streamer rod. Are there any sources or tips that you show me as to how I go about replacing these components? Like do I need to remove all the rod guids to do this? I love the rod and how well it shoots line so I would like to get it back into good working condition again.
  10. I'll be down there bumping elbows with everybody else. Let me know if your going and what hole you plan to fish so I can swing by and say hello.
  11. What kind of scissors do you guys use? I bought a pair from bass pro specifically for fly tying, but they aren't very sharp. They are designed more for cutting fine threads and feathers. What kind do you guys use that are super sharp and would slice right through say egg yarn and deer hair?
  12. Are you guys talking about fishing Friday night on the 16th? If so, then I might decide to head down there after work Friday instead of early Saturday just so I can fish with you guys too. Hey Thom, Lazy Valley is where we always stay at down there in the summer on vacation. I landed a 10 pound bow off the dock there around 11:00 pm at night. We hooked 3 more that were twins to it that same trip too right off the dock. There are some good fish hanging around there. Me and my dad got quite a few pictures on the desk in the LV office too. Dad's on there with a 22" brown and a 20 pound carp that he caught of the dock years ago and I am pictured with my big bow.
  13. My scissors are pretty dull and i can't make a single fast cut like I would like to do. I always end up having to trim the fly up a little bit afterwards to get a good round shape. Also, I've caught plenty of trout on my less than perfect globals. After you catch a few fish, a global will be getting worn out anyhow and won't have that perfect shape.
  14. I'm coming down to Taneycomo next weeked so save me one of those hats....orange or yellow please. =)
  15. I tie in four pieces of egg yarn, two on bottom and two on top of the hook. Then I make 3 or 4 wraps around all four strands and tighten them as much as possible to the hook. Afterward, I pull the ends of the top two pieces up and the bottom two pieces down and make 3 or 4 figure 8 patterns in between the strands on top and on bottom of the hook. Once I finish the figure 8 step, I tie off the thread and trim the fly to shape. Doing the figure 8 between the top and bottom strands is the key for me to get good evenly round glo balls. I will try to post a picture of what I mean if you still don't understand what I am saying.
  16. I was tying up some flies tonight for my trip to Maramec Springs tomorrow and I started tying a few glo balls. Instead of just wrapping the thread over the middle of the yarn, I made a figure 8 around the top and bottom pieces of yarn and wallah....a perfectly round, plush egg appeared after I trimmed the yarn.
  17. Everybody come fishing this weekend....its the last weekend for C&R!!! Center Punch, you need to go so you can show me how to get those big ones to bite. I just can't get them to open their big mouth and suck in my little flies. The small ones will eat my bugs all day though so I don't get bored. I'm bring my girlfriend and a buddy who's coming up from college also. We will be their on Saturday from 1 till the buzzer on Saturday.
  18. Somebody needs to take a chill pill and realize its just sarcasm. Congrats..your the first person I have seen come out and openly flame somebody on this forum. I hope this isn't a sign of worse times to come. I found Polock's comments amusing.
  19. So if I get trailer brakes put on, would that help me out alot?
  20. I'm wanting to buy a boat now. My truck has me worried though because its only a 4 cylinder 2wd Ranger. Would I be able to haul a boat with my little truck or do I need something with 8 cylinders and 4wd? Also, anybody know how good of a boat I could get for say under $10,000? The only things that I for sure want on it are a steering column and be able to have a trolling motor on the front. I'll be fishing on the Missouri River for catfish, on Taneycomo, and probably on big lakes like Tablerock and Lake of the Ozarks.
  21. I forgot to add earlier that if I land any trout over the slot limit, I release them. Now granted thats only happened once, but that's what I would do if it ever happens again.
  22. I will keep a limit of the 11-12" trout from the trophy area if we are wanting some fish. IMO, it would be nice if people would take a limit of the small fish now and then because they are thick up there a lot of times and eat a lot of the food that the bigger fish could use and really help their growth. I have a little mesh net on the back of my vest just incase, but I always try to just grab the fly and twist the fish off without out them even coming out of the water.
  23. The park is fine. I been down the last two weekends in a row. About the only thing different is there are now some huge bolders in fast water below the cable. Trout like to hold right up in front of them or right behind them I have noticed.
  24. Thanks PHil.
  25. Do you prefer to add flash to your scuds or just keep them as natural colored as possible?
