    What's Cooking?

    I want some!
  3. Cloudy for me tonight but this will be around a while. Jupiter is close now too. Sky Guide is a cool app that everybody in the universe should have. Here’s what it shows is going on outside my house right now Rotate it around, up or down and it shows what’s out there where you’re pointing. Very cool.
  4. Seems like that would have been pretty soft ground bordering those tiny creeks. So, if you got to a place you couldn’t go further it’d be tough to turn around?
  5. That’s pretty cool!! When you said small creeks I wasn’t thinking that small ! Nice trip report and pics.

Cherokee Purple and Brandywines have the best flavor IMO. Also, I just checked and those are all Cherokee Purples. Black Krims haven't come on yet.

I put their best face forward for the pic 😄
  8. Have you considered one of the trout parks? A couple of light weight spin casters and you’re set. Roaring River shouldn’t be too far away. Plenty of other things to do while you’re there to keep them having fun. Camping, hiking, hatchery, pool (I think it’s open). Stop by Tim’s Fly Shop — he was always good to my babies and will be able to help you be successful. My theory is to have them fish only as much as they want to, and not a bit more.

    What's Cooking?

Pizza tonight. Started dough yesterday and cold fermented in the fridge. Did this indoors in a 500 degree oven on a stone with another stone overhead. Sauce was just crushed tomatoes. Did a Margherita with fresh mozzarella and basil from the garden. Dressed with just a little extra virgin olive oil and kosher salt. Dang. Then hamburger seasoned with beef base, mushroom and black olives with grated mozzarella. Another dang. Had one more dough ball and we voted for another with hamburger, mushroom, black olive but with fresh mozzarella and basil. Again oil and salt. Double dang. Feeling a little sluggish right now. 😀

    What's Cooking?

I bought some 00 mail order a while back when I was trying to be all official with Neapolitan pizza. I think I've still got most of it. Probably right alongside the masa I bought to make tortillas.

Well, I forgot to take a picture so you all are going to have to trust me on this: Brought in one Celebrity and about 6 Sun Gold tomatoes on the 4th of July. Celebrity was about pool ball sized, so not a prize winner. Lots are coming!

    What's Cooking?

Thanks. My first time doing it and it was less effort than I expected. Did the mixing in the stand mixer. There's a million recipes out there but I just used the basic one from the Kitchen Aid booklet. Used all AP flour, whole eggs salt and water. Happy with the results but will try a semolina version in the future because I just can't leave well enough alone. The sauce took more effort for sure.

    What's Cooking?

Not standard 4th of July fare, but we’ve had plenty of BBQ in the last week and I wanted to try out the pasta maker I just got. Started a Bolognese sauce midday. Used a highly-rated recipe from 'Chef John' on Allrecipes that he says is based on Marcella Hazan's. Kinda different for us with milk, nutmeg, white wine. Simmered about 4 hours. Did homemade pasta with my new Kitchenaid attachment. Also bought the fettuccine cutter which made short work of making noodles. Pulling it all together it was good 😁

    Whatchya Drinking?

We drank a lot of wine on our vacation a couple weeks ago. Just down the road from where we stayed was a property with a small sign at the end of the driveway that said 'Wine and Oil - Direct Sales'. The house was surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. We pulled in and drove on down towards the house. Other than another little sign at a fork in the driveway there was nothing going on to make you think you should be there. We pulled around back and rang the doorbell. After a bit an elderly man came out and we told him we were there to taste the wine. He spoke zero English, so he went around the corner and got another guy. Turned out he didn't speak a word of English either, but he knew why we were there. He unlocked the door, took us into a room and pointed to a lineup of bottles that looked like they'd been there for years. The bottles were dusty and the wine inside was faded. He pointed to the darkest-colored wine and smiled then clasped his hand on his bicep to signal it was strong. We shook our heads and he proceeded to open up a newer bottle for us to try. We had pretty low expectations but the wine was actually very good. We let him know we'd take a bottle, which was 6 Euros. I had a 5 and a 50. He kinda smiled and said, 'Cinque OK', and out we went with a bottle for 5 Euros (about $6). I tried to get him to reenact the 'strong' thing, but this is what I got. One thing that was driven home for us over there is that winemaking and grape growing is an agricultural endeavor. We saw lots of folks pruning vines, and tractors going down rows mowing between them and disking up the soil near the base. The dude we bought the wine from wasn't wearing a clean shirt waiting for people to come in and buy his wine -- he was outside working. Some of the best times were these little interactions with the locals.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Looked at the map on the website. Doesn't look like it has spread to my area yet. Hopefully they can stop it before it gets here

Haven't tried any of the sweetened or flavored whiskeys. I fear it may awaken distant, unpleasant memories.

    What's Cooking?

Love summer when the fruit and veggies starts rolling in. Hit the KC City Market Saturday and found some decent corn, cantaloupe and maters. Excellent peaches. A little prosciutto and melon Some heirloom tomatoes, cottage cheese, salt and....that’s it 😄 Classic summer meal yesterday afternoon. Burger on the charcoal grill, toasted bun, smoky beans, macaroni salad, corn and a peach and blueberry fruit salad. And tonight - bruschetta with heirloom tomato, olive oil, garlic, garden basil and balsamic on toasted bread. Iceberg slab with radishes, bacon and ranch, and shrimp cocktail.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Interesting read. Thanks for sharing Macallan is in that group and fits what I was told. These suit my tastes better. As I mentioned, Laphroig is a hate for me. Interesting to see I’m not alone Had a taste of 2 Gingers Irish Saturday night. Pretty good stuff. Also had a 1/2 of a pudding shot, 1/2 of a Jell-O shot and a 1/2 of a PBR at a shin dig my brother and a friend hosted. We left fairly early. Would have been fun to observe the going’s on later. 😄

    Whatchya Drinking?

I’ve got a buddy who knows his whiskies. I told him I didn’t like the peaty/smoky flavor in scotch and he had me try one that I did like. Think it was Macallan’s. I’ll see him tonight and will ask. Laphroig is disgusting.

I’m a fan of Irish too. And bourbon, Canadian, rye, brandy, tequila, rum, vodka and gin. All kinds of wine. Also like Coke, Mountain Dew, Seven Up, lemonade, limeade, iced tea, skim milk, tomato juice and V8. And Arnold Palmer and Yoo-hoo. Carrot, prune, kraut and pickle juice, kombucha, Gatorade and Tang. Scotch, Yukon Jack and Southern Comfort — not so much.
  24. Boy, I teed that one up for you
  25. Now wait just a minute! Last time I went fishing we stayed at a B&B
