Ouch! I've had close calls before (note duct tape on rim of flat in picture above) but not a full dump. Be kind to them and they will probably be OK if most of the root ball is in tact and there isn't a broken/damaged stem. I think the last thing they need after that trauma is to be outside in the wind, and it may get too hot in the greenhouse with this warming spell. I'll probably start to harden my starts off this weekend and get some cool-crop seeds in the groud.

Sounds like a good plan. I fish a dry and dropper in all smaller water.

Agree -- but there is an awful lot of over-processed or just phony-looking photography out there. The HDR stuff is kind of a pet peeve of mine. But what Al is producing and graphic work is certainly not in that category.

They won't let me wear my ram horns to work anymore after I accidentally gored someone on the elevator.

Plaza III Steak Soup tonight. Plaza III was a steak house on the Plaaah-zuh in KC known for its quality steaks and also its steak soup. Got the recipe years ago, and it’s available on the web now. It was a one-of-a-kind place, not a chain like about every thing else these days. Unfortunately they closed last month after 54 years. Soup is pretty simple—ground beef, veggies, beef broth, herbs.

Tim’s is a great shop and I always go there when at RR even if I don’t really need anything. 10 or more years ago I was in there with my then-young boys, he gave each of them a pair of hemostats. They still remember that. He has shipped stuff to me before too.

I was looking for Whiting Bugger Packs and they didn't have them. I think they have a lot of stuff, just never enough -- seems like every time I go there I can't find something I want. I bought about 20 flies from there a few weeks ago, and each one had a tiny little tag with a bar code and the poor checkout lady couldn't get about half of them to read, and the other half took quite a while to get lined up just right so they could get scanned. Silly.

I always bring a gillie, so I’m not limited to one rod. 😄 Seriously, any of those rods are fine, but personally I’d favor the lighter weight and shorter length. Your fly box has all you need. Success there is more about not screwing up than it is the right fly or rod weight. So, just don’t screw up!😄

Not really a quiche guy, because it seems they’re usually dry, too browned and have ingredients I don’t really care for. Like at a B&B a couple weeks ago—actually a frittata— but it was bone dry and had kale in it. But—that quiche looks and sounds great. The steak plate looks great too.

The other thing... This ness’ lady chick is a trooper. We spent our Saturday night down in the cave learning to tie Wooly Buggers. Talk about stick-to-it-tiveness! This girl’s got it. Now, she did request I keep her flies for myself and tie some for you all, and I will probably honor that request. But, that said, it was fun to teach and it was fun to have a willing student. Like I said, this girl’s a trooper!

Ok, while we wait a couple things... I needed a few supplies for the poppers, and I’ve been hunting online for stuff for the last couple days. Just couldn’t get everything in one order in a timely manner, so I headed up to Cabela’s this morning. They didn’t have Whiting Bugger Packs, the main thing I needed, and I just passed on the rest. I toyed with driving all the way to Bass Pro, but figured I’d be disappointed there too, and pissed after the drive. So, I headed to K&K Flyfishers shop in Lenexa. I haven’t been there in years, partly because the guys there were always kinda snobby, and partly because I generally got what I needed elsewhere. So, I walked in and was met with this wall of fly tying materials: My boys tingled 😄 I couldn’t even fit the whole selection in the frame. It wrapped around to the right and there were several shelves of stuff like the one in the picture. I had everything I needed in about 5 minutes. And...the guys were almost falling over themselves to help me. So, I’m sold. No more wasted trips to Cabela’s. Support your local fly shop. For you penny-pinchers, yeah, I paid a little more than what I saw online. But, I don’t tolerate backordered or multiple orders as well as I used to. Time is running out, so an extra four bucks to have it in hand is better than something in the bush. K&K for all your fly tying and fishing needs.

Ok, I love eggs. But I’m picky about them. I like fried over easy. Runny yellow, set white. No crispy edges. Love deviled eggs, but don’t like hard yolks. Omelette can’t be browned or crispy. Scrambled ...I want them creamy, not dry. Got it? So, this morning scrambled eggs with milk, cooked low and slow in oil and butter until just set and creamy. Like this: Discuss. Or not.

Yeah, but I love posole. Have never made it though.

Well, I love pickled about anything. I hope there’s some good info coming. Yeah, dilly beans are tasty Just had some pickles last weekend that I think were lye pickles. Reminded me of some I’d had years ago that were made by a western Kansas farm wife where we used to pheasant hunt. A different texture and very crisp. Very unique and hard to describe.

Broke the cooking slump tonight. I had most of the ingredients for cioppino at home, stopped by the store to round things out. White wine, vegetable stock, clam juice, onion, garlic, celery, poblano, diced tomatoes, bay leaves, parsley, pepper, lemon zest and red pepper flakes. Simmered that for a bit. Strained it to get the broth and added white fish, shrimp, clams and later crab meat. Dang.

That right there is PRICELESS! Good on you for planting the seed for a lifetime of adventures.

Dang, I was starting to drool right up until the very end then my glands dried up 😄

I was in Davenport, IA a couple weeks ago and saw a black squirrel running across a lawn. My first. Totally off topic but this is as good a place as any to say it. Carry on.
