I like a classic martini—gin or vodka—with the vermouth still in it. About a 3 to 1 ratio is right for me. Sounds snooty, but I like them shaken, not stirred. Gotta have it ice cold and I like the little ice slivers that you get from shaking.
When I order them out I never know what I’m gonna get, so I’ve got a little spiel I go through. Gin, up, 3/1, not dirty, olives. Can’t make myself say shaken, not stirred.
Went to a pretty nice restaurant recently and I told the waitress we wanted martinis, but laughed and said we had some instructions. Went through the drill and ordered one gin and one vodka. When she brought them back I asked which one is the gin? She raised them up to her nose and sniffed them to figure it out 😄
