  1. Momentum too. That stuff will kill you real bad.
  2. Gotta agree with OTF -- it's not one particular generation or age of people. It's mostly how you're raised and how you think. Some folks just didn't have the advantage of growing up with parents that taught them courtesy and concern or respect for others. That stuff was drilled into my head from an early age -- open the door for ladies, stand when a lady enters the room, a firm handshake when you meet/greet someone, don't interrupt when someone else is talking, let others go first, never use a toothpick in public, napkin in lap, elbows off the table, don't talk with your mouth full, don't slurp. OK -- those last few are possibly off topic, but I wanted to give a nod to my Mom because she's probably watching right now. My folks didn't teach me to load my sparkly bass boat before I backed her into the lake, not to cut between a fisherman and the bank, or not to throw a wake where it will affect others. They didn't have to.
  3. Me too -- especially physics. It seems like it's always making what I'm trying to do harder somehow.
  4. Naw -- I put her in the home. Party time!
  5. Well, if he get's kicked off the river there's always the Servateria. I've had a few opening day breakfasts there -- it never disappoints.
  6. I tried this last night and it worked pretty darn good. It's kind of like steaming it in the husk loosens and softens up the silk and makes it stick to the husk a little. But, I couldn't get it to squeeze out like you're talking about. It was hot and hurt my hand, and I couldn't figure out what to do about that
  7. I'm with Champ -- learn how to fish; take a pass on the latest-greatest thing. BTW -- I've got some Banjo Minnows listed on craig-bay if'n anyone's interested.
  8. As always, there's the law and there's people's perception of what is right or wrong. Crazy landowners can ruin your day even if you have your lawyer in the boat with you. I'd check on the law, but I'd also get as much info on the dude(s) making the claim on the water too. Where is this river?
  9. I've never launched a boat, but I think I could figure out that minimizing my time on the ramp while others wait is a good thing. Not sure signs or dealer training would help the folks that don't have that natural instinct to think about the impact what they do has on others. I think we're stuck with them. BTW -- this thread and all the others sure doesn't make me want to get out on one of these lakes anytime soon. Sheesh. Sounds a good way to get pist off more than anything.
  10. Oh, no -- not physics again.
  11. No one answer. A heavier weight rod will be stiffer and help; a longer rod gives more leverage (I usually use a 9 foot 8 weight); sharp hooks with enough of an unobstructed gap; a strip set takes in a foot or two of extra line; hesitate a bit before the set. Line management is important too. It's easier to end up with slack with fly tackle, and harder to fix. Keep your eye on it.
  12. Fish don't eat them anymore. They're focused on Ned rigs these days. Hair jigs may make a comeback someday, so you should keep a few on the tackle box. But don't bother fishing them now.
  13. I hear you Mitch. I think there are more issues in how data is interpreted than data itself most of the time. You can hardly research any issue without being subjected to somebody's spin.
  14. Good call on the car
  15. Looking good, blue. The Roma's especially catch my eye. I tried a new paste tomato this year called Federle, and they're a bust. The plants are real weaklings, got a bunch of thumb-sized maters with blossom end rot, and one huge one about the size of my fist.
  16. I pinch out suckers to keep the plant size in check. I grow mostly indeterminates and also keep them to one main stem so I can grow more varieties in my space.
  17. Looks pretty interesting. I'll have to bookmark that site.
  18. I gotta know the human to Bear distance, especially on that first pic
  19. I'm gonna have to try that.
  20. This is ness' mom, Eunice. He has lost his computer privileges and won't be posting, or sitting down, for a while. You boys have a good evening.
  21. Here's a shot of the maters -- all Celebrity, except for the one with dark shoulders is a Cherokee Purple.
  22. Article said the guy died from anaphylactic shock. Same thing that causes some folks to die from bee stings, exposure to allergens, etc. So, not a typical snake bite death. Too bad the kids had to see that, and lost their dad.
  23. BH -- my garden started out the year better than I've had in a long, long time. The early season stuff was fantastic. Just don't know what's going on with the rest -- maters and peppers are both smaller than they should be, a couple maters are just flat sickly. At least I'm getting some.
  24. Ha! Bread and butters are good eats, and pretty easy to do. When you've got a fridge to store pickles in, the whole canning thing goes away and the world pof pickles opens up. Keep plugging away!
  25. With all the jive talk he's been laying down, he sounds more like The Man than a real brother. Sorry wrench -- don't want to be a narc, but this is bogus.
