  1. Somebody knocked down the sign, so somebody ought to know to stop before the bridge, right? That's why I didn' t call somebody -- he already knows. I better call somebody else
  2. I would bet money there wasn't a change to ANY law, just a pist-off wife leaning on her ol' man to make sure it didn't happen again, and enforcement of laws already in place. She probably got all her girlfriends gabbing about it at church, the grocery store, whatever, and the sheriff had to act. That's the thing you guys miss with all your long-winded proposals. Good old fashioned sweet talking and arm twisting will get a lot more done than any of this other nonsense. But, keep on hashing and rehashing until this thread dies out like all the others.
  3. Yeah -- saw the wooden bridge and walked across it. Looked like somebody had knocked the "Bridge Out" sign into the water, because it was hung up on a snag just downstream. If somebody came flying through there at night it would be pretty bad, so I'm gonna call somebody.
  4. That was interesting Wayne. BTW, I drove down to the Kenneth Rd. access GloryDaze mentioned. I'd never been down in there. They had the gates to the little park closed, and I didn't feel like walking in there to see. It'd be a heck of a place to get rid of a body
  5. That has always felt like the most doable solution. Work with what you've got rather than build a new, specialized system. But as far as I know, it's never gotten past the 10-page forum-rehash stage. Same as the stream access issue. Maybe this time will be different
  6. Hey, I like it! We could call ourselves the 2 Horsemen, have a clubhouse with no girls allowed, play with matches, etc.
  7. We're sorry Chief. What do you want to talk about?
  8. Hmmm. I'll have to check that out. I know the Blue Ridge access, and I know the river butts right up against some ballfields straight down Holmes from Martin City (and, Jack's Stack!), but you're farther up than that. And that Red Bridge access is right at where the Santa Fe Trail crossed, IIRC.
  9. I know that log!
  10. Little Blue, huh? Interesting history at the Bannister Federal Complex right along through there. WWII airplane engine factory, Dept. of Defense landfill, non-nuclear (right!) parts for nuclear weapons, Honeywell, Westinghouse, Bendix, IRS, GSA, Superfund sites. Beautiful country, that
  11. Midwest troutbum, When some blow-hard is talking about his time share in Aruba just remember this -- it's a freakin' time share! All you need is a pulse to get into a time share. Just ask my brother-in-law. Getting out of one is what takes talent. Anyhoo -- why does it matter anyway? Some people got more stuff than you do. Relax -- it's just gonna be that way. You gotta lose that inferiority complex, man. When you tiptoe into a flyshop all mousy and feeling like you're out of place, it's gonna show. I bet you headed right over to the close-out bin and started picking through it. Maybe even grabbed a packet of pink marabou or tried on a pair of last-year's Red Balls. You gotta carry yourself like you've already got everything in the shop, but you're looking for some backup equipment to leave at your HOME in Aruba. Hold your head up. Get the dude-atude. Your money's as good as the next guy's. Or, you just may be happier shopping online.
  12. Nothing here rain-wise, though I've got 81 on the trusty thermometer at 8PM.

    Ooops

What he said. I'd also add most people latch onto their side and just and stop thinking.
  14. Justin, you're a class act. You're a small businessman raising a family with your hard work and your smarts. You also happen to be doing it in a beautiful place with a lot of time to 'stop and smell the roses', when you're not bustin' your azz keeping the place up. I admire and respect you for all that. We haven't met face-to-face, but I have met Amy a couple times when I was down with Gavin. I think you guys have got it figured out. I can tell you this -- I bust my hump too, but the results of what I do can only be seen on a computer screen or a report. Over the last couple years, the layering on of new rules from all different sources has made my job even more CYA and less (financially) productive things. I'd venture a guess that the majority of people reading this have pretty unfulfilling jobs they have to do just because. You get to see the results of your work. You're a lucky guy.
  15. Pshaw! Don't we have people to do that for us?
  16. Age old problem and Gavin hit the nail on the head. MO has a very generous allocation for conservation from the dedicated sales tax collected statewide. They've got a ton of money, they just don't choose to spend it on enforcement. NObody likes the knuckleheads.
  17. That story about made me cry.
  18. Welp, we got rain last night. Anybody else? edited: not sure how much we got -- the weather station near us showed 2-1/4 this AM, but now it shows zud.
  19. Sounds like a sweet arrangement, BH. Best I can do is hit our local roadside stand or farmer's market. Got some excellent sweet corn from some Mennonite farmers a couple weeks ago. Ate a LOT of it. Gonna have to get more soon -- it's gonna shut down. Already thinking about my fall garden
  20. Nice stuff. And, there's nothing wrong with taking photos. I like it too, and need to concentrate on doing it more.
  21. Man, I've been watering the heck out of stuff just to keep it looking so-so. These raised beds sure dry out quickly. My heirloom tomatoes are really looking feeble. Brandywine, Black from Tula, and Cherokee Purple all stressed with sparse foliage. Tomatoes are smallish and oddly shaped. Celebrity hybrids are doing better. Huge fruit set early on and they got some good size, but they're stalled out. I've brought a bunch in to ripen and get them out of the sun. Gonna rig up something to shade one side with a lot of fruit exposed. Multiplier onions and garlic are curing. Some cucumbers, but nothing spectacular. Beans are a real disappointment. Rattlesnake pole are throwing off a few. KY Wonder pole nada. Dragon Tongue bush are throwing off oddly shaped and colored pods. Anybody having any luck in this heat and drought?

    Drought?

Thanks, Tim. It's also their livelihood if their business goes. I've got their locations pinpointed on Google Earth, and an overlay of the fire perimeter. Unbelievable.
