Sorry to hear that. 95 is a good run, but spending the last years in a diminished state is always tough. I bet she left a legacy the first 80 or 90 years that will be what you remember.

SelfLESSness works. Selfishness is at the root of most problems we encounter. But, you still coulda done that in 15 minutes when you got back😄

I know a way you can do that 4 hours and 15 minutes quicker. 😄😄 ness, who really wants a Susie Voo doo but enjoys the razzing.

Irish Soda Bread 2 ½ cups flour 4 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt 1/3 cup cold butter 1 ¼ cup buttermilk 1 cup dried currents, raisins or cranberries Raw sugar Mix all dry ingredients. Cut in butter. Stir in buttermilk and fruit. Knead 10 times and form a ball. Sprinkle raw sugar over the top and press in lightly. Cut ‘X’ in top. Place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.

Not much in the way of real, from scratch, home cooking this week. Jarred sauces can be a good starting place. Penne with Prego dressed up with some good olive oil, Parmesan and parsley. Shrimp with a sweet chile sauce over rice. Tonight thawed out the leftover Beef and Guinness stew and served it over some champ potatoes (thanks for the info Mr. Folly). Made a bunch of taters so ness 2.3 could take some home, but he’s on serving 3 and I don’t think there will be any anything left.

I’m a big fan of Cherokee Purple and Brandywine. For flavor, I think they’re tough to beat. But, they’re not as easy to grow as a nice, determinate, disease resistant hybrid.

Still love the covered, raised beds, Mr. BilletHead. Anxious to see how the self-watering containers work. Everything is safely indoors and under lights here. All the tomatoes and about half the planned lettuce are downstairs. Got a lot on the plate these days, but may get the lettuce out and under hoops in a few weeks. Time will tell. This may be my last year here, so I’m thinking about the next owner. May be pulling the asparagus, black raspberries and gooseberries because I think 90% of the potential buyers would consider a negative. Kinda sad, but things change and I gotta change with it.

When I fist decided to get into fly fishing -- in the early 90s -- my first book was by him. Good article on Lefty here https://www.anglersjournal.com/people/profile-of-lefty-kreh

Oh man -- sorry you feel that way. Back in the 70's, it was all about mom serving it up in little dishes...digging a crater out with a spoon, and pouring on some half-and-half. Then we'd kick back and watch Carol Burnett. That Mr. Tudball and the Oldest Man still cracks me up.

Was watching ‘A Concert for George’ (Harrison) on PBS the other night, and it opened with the Lumberjack Song and Michael Palin. The choir was in Royal Canadian Mounted Police uniforms, and the front row was the rest of the Monty Python guys. But on the far right was Tom Hanks. Didn’t notice until they pointed it out. I think that’s pretty cool. It was 2002.

I can’t see those little corn cobs without thinking about this

Haven’t had it in years, but cooked was always better. Chocolate only, with a little cream on top when I was a kid.

Awe, heck, I was being modest. I always get it right. I need to be more honest with my posts.

OMG!...We’re boiling our chicken in baggies before frying it?? What is this world coming to? Being of open mind, I’m open to the idea. But, dang, when I fry chicken, and get it right, it’s dang near impossible to beat.

I think if the herpes gets outta control they can dump in a bunch of Campho Phenique in and make it go away. Kinda adds a new meaning to sore lipping a fish. That is all.

There's a joke in there somewhere, but I ain't gonna touch it. I'm scared to.

Thanks. Yeah, the bread is pretty dang good. It’s got butter cut in and plenty of fruit. It’s not dry, but there’s a nice crunch on the outside. Nice with a little butter on it. Here’s a closeup. Had to lookup champ potatoes. That’s probably closer to what I did than colcannon. Seems colcannon can be a lot of things, but cabbage is mentioned most.

Wandering the aisles of the grocery store this morning trying to think of something to make today. Wait! St. Patty’s day is coming and I almost forgot. Guinness beef stew and Irish soda bread would be just the ticket. Just needed meat, so I grabbed a chuck tender roast. Cut the roast into pieces, removing most of the fat. Browned in enameled cast iron Dutch oven (my favorite utensil) and then it gets onion, celery, flour, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, beef broth and Guinness. After that simmered for about three hours, I added in diced carrots, taters and parsnips. Got to thinking about dishes I’ve seen where the stew is served with some mashed taters. What could be more Irish?? Thought that sounded good so I diced up a couple bakers and added minced onion—thinking colcannon-ish— and parsley, cream and butter. It turned out really good, and I’m updating my recipe to include that in the future. Soda bread with currants and cranberries. I make mine on the sweet side with some raw sugar on top. Irish itch scratched.

Microwave, baby. Remember when these things took 40 minutes? I can kick this off, put on my jammies and have time to spare!

And a cave. Don’t forget the cave!

Ok, I like the ness Vegas thing. I’m stealing that. Not sure anyone ever got the stately ness manor thing anyway. When you say we’re gonna eat game and dogs are welcome, I kinda cringe....hope you’re not looking at my puppies as a source of protein. 😄😄 BTW, I’m less adventurous than I used to be. Just can’t do tartare, so I’ll bring a hot plate just in case.

Man, where to start. 😄 You’re welcome anytime at stately ness manor, but you’re gonna be subjected to dog lovin’ like you’ve never experienced ...including Max’s signature squeeze-between-the-legs move. Might wanna warn Pat. The ladies seem to bristle a bit at that. Ruby’s on a diet, so no treats for her. I think the deck will hold the four of us. If not, it’s only gonna be about an 18 inch drop.
