Yeah -- especially with tomatoes, nothing beats homegrown. Store bought tomatoes are usually tasteless and I haven't bought a slicer for years. I occasionally buy a roma for guacamole, but that's about it. Other stuff I grow is not as dramatically better tasting, and I'm thinking about scaling things back next year. On the chopping block are chiles, carrot, snap/snow pea, spinach, onion, shallot and garlic. They're readily available, bigger and better and taste as good as what I can grow. I never grew squash or zucchini due to the space they take, plus they're so readily available. I'll keep and maybe increase heirloom green and wax bean, lettuce, banana pepper, radish, beet and of course tomato. Mine is a small hobby garden -- not trying subsist on this stuff. I'm having less fun trying to keep up with this and the rest of the yard.
