    baseball is coming

Speaking of catchers, looks like KC renegotiated Perez's deal and got him locked up to 2021. And that makes me happy.

    2016 Garden Thread

Pepper seeds can take a long time to germinate. Earlier in this thread I posted a way to do it that is pretty reliable. They need moisture and warmth to get going. Once you get them going they need a strong light source right on top of them or they'll get leggy. Good luck!

    2016 Garden Thread

These last couple weekends have been pretty nice and I've gotten out into the yard to do a little prep work. Pruned off the dead asparagus ferns, and did a little more pruning on the raspberries. Fertilized both those beds too. Headed over to the vegetable beds and did a little clean up there too. Went to pull up last years parsley and found a hole with a litter of leetle bunnies. I about jumped out of my skin when I saw them squirming around. I went ahead and pulled up all the stuff that was sheltering them. Didn't have the heart to wax them, but they're gonna have to find a new place to stay. Hopefully mother nature will take care of the problem for me.

Let me know next time you're up here and I'll get one to you.

    What's Brewing?

Down to the last few bottles of this stuff. I think the next time I do this I'll leave out the cup of brown sugar I added before bottling. Just a tad sweeter than I like. I has been improving with age.

Those are some mighty thick steaks!

    What's Cooking?

Fired up the grill this evening. Did a couple chicken breasts and some asparagus. A little General Tsao sauce helped.

    What's Cooking?

Buckboard bacon <> bacon, just as Pig Latin <> Latin
  9. With all the talk about Ned rigs and high-dollar jerk baits here, it's sort of unusual to hear folks talking good old Texas-rigged worm rigs and spinner baits. I thought those were hopelessly out of fashion
  10. Welcome Tyler. It's not all about fishing from a boat. It's just that we wade & canoe fishermen are mostly thinkers and doers, not talkers There are tons of opportunities to fish from the bank or by wading. There are hundreds of miles of streams to fish, or, for just a few shekels, you can get a float tube or a canoe, which will open up a lot of water that's out of reach on foot. Read up -- it's free! Good luck.

    What's Cooking?

Funny -- I usually get a couple bad sinus infections and/or cases bronchitis a year. Not this year for some reason. Doc has never prescribed prednisone or any other 'roid. I know what you mean about amoxycillin. That's the one they want to give you first, then follow up with one that actually knocks it out a couple weeks later.

    What's Cooking?

Been eating too good the last couple months, and noticed I'm trending towards the next hole on the belt. Time to fix that, so the cooking is gonna be different for a while. Not giving up all the good stuff, but gotta be smart about it. Today's lunch entree: Weather's looking good this weekend -- may be time to splurge on some ribs.
  14. Nice work, sharps. Wanting to see a bigger picture of the rod, I clicked on the photo. Being the nosy type, I clicked through more of your photobucket account. Those are some beautiful hammerlocks. The wood is incredible!

Salt it? Do tell... That rings a bell, but I've never done it.

  17. One of my heroes
  18. OK. I'm done. No culling the bad ones, no second fly.
  19. What even are you guys talking about? I took geometry, I passed it the second time. I've never looked back.
  20. I don't worry too much about breakdowns. I always carry a little something with me to kill the time until help arrives.
  21. Yeah, I love to fish ponds from a float tube. Haven't done it in a couple years though.
  22. Slow down, fellers
  23. Johnson County Parks & Rec. have a few small lakes around, but you'll need a JoCo license for those. Shawnee Mission Park and Kill Creek Park are two. Lenexa Lake (Lenexa is the suburb south of Shawnee) is not bad too. No special license needed. Wyandotte County Lake north of Shawnee is an option. Not sure of the licensing requirement -- haven't fished there myself. Check your PM. I think I've heard of your dad -- probably not too many guys guiding in the Flint Hills! A friend fished with him(maybe?) a couple years ago. I just shot him an e-mail to see if it was your dad. He used to own a coffee shop in Shawnee, and I was going to go with him but had a conflict.
  24. I gotta admit, I'm a little rusty on the tying. It's been a while. The first 4 to 6 were just me getting back in the rhythm. Now I'm trying to be more consistent and get the proportions right. I'll cull out the (really) bad ones, even though they'll still catch fish. I'm tying 16s, but I may drop down to 18s or even 20s for the second set. Still planning on tying 2 each/20.

    What's Cooking?

I think I'm with you on the beer. I'd be shoveling those in my pie whole pretty quick. Need something to wash them down with, not sip on.
