  1. Shut 'em down. Gotcha.
  2. 47 degrees this morning and they're saying 37 tonight -- which could mean a frost. I never have much luck with spinach because it always seems to get too hot too quick. Getting a great crop this year -- I wish I'd planted a bunch more.
  3. You son of a gun! I thought I recognized your turtleneck and mohawk! Dangle Big Ed out there just one more time and I'll take you up on the offer!

Man, I hear you OP. It's tough when you lose one. They truly are a part of the family. What sucks is that they don't live all that long. The other day my son said, 'I can't imagine a family living without dogs.' My first reaction was 'how cute', until I thought about it for a second. They add so much to life -- you really can't quantify it. They're just there, and it ain't right it they're not. Dogs have been in the picture for me since I was a baby pooping in my diapers. They'll be in the mix until I'm old and senile and pooping in my diapers. That's just the way it's gonna be.
  5. I don't think the wood in the mix is using up N so fast that it's a problem this spring. The cool, wet weather is probably more to blame. Maters just don't like that too much. But, they tolerate it. My maters got hardened off for a week or more before I planted them outside. But, they just didn't seem to like it at all when I put them in the ground. After a couple weeks they seem to have settled in and look very good now. You might just need a little more time. The upside to this weather is a good environment for the cool-season stuff. Everything but the peppers and maters are looking great right now.
  6. Believe me, I'm no expert on this topic -- but could it possibly be that presentation and conditions are more important than the particular bait? I know it seems crazy -- any fishing show will tell you it's all about the tackle -- but, maybe a dinged up Hula Popper will catch as many as a $17 current year model bait, if you put it in the right place, the right way, enough times?
  7. Sorry -- missed one.
  8. Time to back off of Justin. He's one of the good guys -- you douche bags need to simmer down and look at the facts. Making a buck within the system is a good thing. Think about that for a second....what's the alternative??? Don't blame Justin for the drunken masses -- blame the drunken masses.
  9. That's what I figgered -- not 1st degree, because it wasn't a planned thing. Not manslaughter because he friggin shot the guy on purpose. Not sure of the timing on the verdict, but it sure seems pretty quick. Also not surprised that no breakthrough was made on the issue of trespassing, stream rights, or whatever. Guess that one still hangs in the balance. Doesn't matter where you are -- shoot a guy for no good reason and you're gonna pay. That's just.

Ah, yes -- the Jack Russell's. They took out a whole platoon of Der Blitzenschnauzers in the Battle of Milkbohn.
  15. "The shooting has been described in a similar light as Florida’s historic Trayvon Martin case without the race factor." That's some fine journalism right there.

Why is it that Mitch can't say he doesn't agree without getting jumped? I think we can all say that was a groundbreaking and controversial moment. I'm kinda glad I missed it live, though I've seen stills of it as I've been reading about things. Honestly, it makes my stomach turn a little. Does that mean I'm a bad guy? Should I have DVR-ed it so I could show it to my nieces and nephews, or for my wife to take to the preschool where she works, to teach the lesson that it's just another way of looking at things? Tolerance works both ways folks. It's possible to be tolerant, disagree and not pass judgement all at the same time. And what's all this got to do with the Mafia?

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/michael-sam-boyfriend-mobster-grandpa-father-article-1.1789491 Dad (Jerry, first pic) just got out of jail a year or two ago -- convicted of running a gambling operation in 2010 (along with his brother and lots of other people with familiar names); Grandpa was Willie 'The Rat'; the first mugshot is incorrectly labeled -- it's Willie Jr. (Jerry's brother, so an uncle) who just got out of jail for the same crime. The older black and white mug shot is gramps. He was a bad, bad guy and took over for a while after the Civella's passed away. Trouble seems to follow these guys -- another son of the Rat, Charles 'Vito' was shot in his front yard about 2007. Wife was suspected; she was convicted of tax evasion later. Another grandson, Phil Corbin, was shot in his front yard around 2001(?). Anyway, it'd be a pretty cool family to marry into -- lotsa history.

Well, that's just flat wrong wrench. Dogs are continually changing based on selective breeding. I don't see that happening in humans. You're not going Jimmy the Greek on us are you? ...and sometimes they go to 'live on a farm'. Happened to one of our dogs when I was young -- a Welsh Corgi that wouldn't stop herding the neighborhood kids. You're probably referring to Der Blitzenschnausers. One of the most feared enemies we ever faced:

I have heard that pit bulls actually make poor guard dogs because they are so friendly. We've had Brittanys for years. Anything you read will say how great they are with people, how they're a wonderful companion dog and function well as a member of the family. They make a great gun dog too. But several years back we had one that we had to put down. He bit our niece on the hand, then a couple years he later bit a friend. We didn't know the circumstances on the first event, but knew the second one was totally unprovoked (from a human viewpoint). We kept a very close eye on him for about two or three more years -- always kenneling him when people came over. Then he bit my daughter pretty badly -- she came up from behind to hug him and he turned his head and bit. It was heartbreaking to the whole family, but we put him down the next day. I've sometimes questioned if we gave him one more chance than we should have. But I'm pretty comfortable with the way it went down. He was a great dog but for about 6 seconds of his 6 years with us. BTW -- these were bites, not maulings. I think a lot of folks get a dog without considering the responsibility that goes along with it.

Dogs are like people -- there are some bad ones, and how they are raised is only part of the equation. Any dog will bite -- that's what dogs do. But if you've got a problem dog, you gotta take care of the problem. Mitch's neighbor is clearly in the wrong. Dogs are not like people in that they have been selectively bred to enhance certain characteristics. Pit bulls were bred for bull baiting, bear baiting and dog fighting. That means to attack, bite, and not let go. They have very strong jaws. They are very sweet dogs a lot of the time, but when they go off, the damage can be devastating. So why take a chance? Unless you're trying to look like a bad butt.
