  1. Well, now it's 90 outside....
  2. BTW -- you owe me a PM, man. I can't hold my calendar open forever.
  3. Naw -- more like a rifle to a sniper. And I'd only need two bullets. After the job was done I'd look up Ron Kruger and invite him back to the kinder and gentler OA.
  4. Well, ain't this Ozark Anglers at it's finest. Phil -- give me admin privileges for 10 minutes and I'll clean this up for you and take the blame. Kool Aid and PO need some company.
  5. My beans got singed a little, but that's the extend of the damage. Funny -- in my little garden the maters and peppers are at one end and the beans are at the other. No frost on maters and peppers, but frost on everything else about 10 feet away.
  6. Topsoil is generally pretty heavy, and I think it would take a pretty high proportion of good compost to make it right. I couldn't even begin to guess how many fish you'd need. When I built my raised beds a few years back, I filled them with 100% compost trucked in from a place in town. That was some great stuff -- real black, light and airy. I do the square foot method, so I've got stuff planted very close together. The nice, loose, nutrient-rich soil is a real plus. I've topped it off a couple times with big box compost, but it's crap. Wood chips and even rocks. I'd do the compost thing again, but there's a minimum order amount that is way more than I need. This year I topped it off with bagged potting soil. I was surprised at how much wood was in it, but, it was still pretty good stuff. Lots of peat and vermiculite. It was a little expensive, but I think it helps make the most of my little garden.
  7. I dunno, man. Hoosier is a St. Louis thing. If I used the term around here I guarantee you everybody's gonna think Indiana, basketball, Gene Hackman, or the 'old picket fence'. Use that term at a Chiefs or Royals game and you're gonna get blank stares. And, I've never heard the term used in the Ozarks, except by the tourists that came down on I-44 to spread their wisdom among the unwashed.
  8. 35 here, light frost
  9. Dang--8 inches! All bets are off with that much rain.
  10. but first, take the pH.
  11. Shut 'em down. Gotcha.
  12. 47 degrees this morning and they're saying 37 tonight -- which could mean a frost. I never have much luck with spinach because it always seems to get too hot too quick. Getting a great crop this year -- I wish I'd planted a bunch more.
  13. You son of a gun! I thought I recognized your turtleneck and mohawk! Dangle Big Ed out there just one more time and I'll take you up on the offer!

Man, I hear you OP. It's tough when you lose one. They truly are a part of the family. What sucks is that they don't live all that long. The other day my son said, 'I can't imagine a family living without dogs.' My first reaction was 'how cute', until I thought about it for a second. They add so much to life -- you really can't quantify it. They're just there, and it ain't right it they're not. Dogs have been in the picture for me since I was a baby pooping in my diapers. They'll be in the mix until I'm old and senile and pooping in my diapers. That's just the way it's gonna be.
  15. I don't think the wood in the mix is using up N so fast that it's a problem this spring. The cool, wet weather is probably more to blame. Maters just don't like that too much. But, they tolerate it. My maters got hardened off for a week or more before I planted them outside. But, they just didn't seem to like it at all when I put them in the ground. After a couple weeks they seem to have settled in and look very good now. You might just need a little more time. The upside to this weather is a good environment for the cool-season stuff. Everything but the peppers and maters are looking great right now.
  16. Believe me, I'm no expert on this topic -- but could it possibly be that presentation and conditions are more important than the particular bait? I know it seems crazy -- any fishing show will tell you it's all about the tackle -- but, maybe a dinged up Hula Popper will catch as many as a $17 current year model bait, if you put it in the right place, the right way, enough times?
  17. Sorry -- missed one.
  18. Time to back off of Justin. He's one of the good guys -- you douche bags need to simmer down and look at the facts. Making a buck within the system is a good thing. Think about that for a second....what's the alternative??? Don't blame Justin for the drunken masses -- blame the drunken masses.
  19. That's what I figgered -- not 1st degree, because it wasn't a planned thing. Not manslaughter because he friggin shot the guy on purpose. Not sure of the timing on the verdict, but it sure seems pretty quick. Also not surprised that no breakthrough was made on the issue of trespassing, stream rights, or whatever. Guess that one still hangs in the balance. Doesn't matter where you are -- shoot a guy for no good reason and you're gonna pay. That's just.

Ah, yes -- the Jack Russell's. They took out a whole platoon of Der Blitzenschnauzers in the Battle of Milkbohn.
