This is exactly why I don't get involved with politics!!! No matter what you do it's not good enough for someone else. No matter what your view is, it's not the right view to someone else. I'd be the first to tell you that I should be more involved on all issues but I honestly don't have the time or energy to put into political discussions and lobbying. Maybe as I continue to get older that will change. I hope not though! I know way too many unhappy people that spend way too much time focusing on countless political issues. Life is short and it's impossible for every law to be in everyone's favor. You win some and you lose some. That will never change. And isn't it human nature to care most about things that only affect us directly? There's plenty of other issues that affect me that I don't get involved in either. I literally came across this issue yesterday. Ron and Scott were kind enough to post links and draft up an email template. They made it easy for all of us to voice our opinion to our representatives. Honestly had they not done that, I probably would have done nothing like I normally do. Sorry if that makes you sad. You're a much greater American than I am chief

Ron - Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. I don't normally get involved with politics, but like all of us here, the outdoors and stream fishing in particular is very important to me!!! The scariest part of these proposed bills is the fact that my 2 year old son may not get to enjoy the beautiful outdoors that Missouri has to offer. To me that's a tragedy!!! I have emailed 6 elected officials in my area and urge everyone else to try and do the same.

I agree that I need a butt seat to lean against while running the trolling motor as well. I saw the nice A-rig fish Zipstick caught. How'd you guys fair the rest of the weekend? I need to get back down to LOZ before the tournament season goes nuts in March.

I would also urge you to keep your spots, stretches, and exact tactics close to the vest. The best way to ruin the fun you are having is giving too much detail about it on the internet. I know of a particular smallie creek that was ruined by this.

Aaron is a real solid dude and is definitely one of the better Meramec anglers out there... Especially the tempermental Lower Meramec! He has more success on the Lower Meramec in one day trips than most will have in their lifetime. I really wanna learn the Lower Mac this year!!

In my opinion, you don't need to downsize for smallies. They're not trout or panfish.... I never go lighter than 8 lb line and Medium action rods even in the clearest, smallest water I fish. Last time I was out with Mitch, I had 10 lb on my jig rod. I had the mindset that the winter water would be cold and clear. It was cold, but the water had nice color. Needless to say I broke off my two best bites of the day. Mitch threw 15 lb line all day and didn't have any issues getting bites in 38 degree water. I'm sold on the fact that you don't need to downsize to much to catch Ozark river smallies.

I don't know that area but if I was targeting walleye, I'd be casting suspending jerkbaits or vertical jigging a jig with a plastic trailer tipped with a minnow. If I were fishing for bass I'd be throwing suspending jerkbaits and hair jigs with chunk or craw trailer. Have fun and make sure to wear a life jacket. These water temps can be dangerous in a hurry. Post a report and some pics after you go. Ron Kruger or Jerry Rapp probably know the area and can offer better advice.
