This is going to be brutal and horrible and every adjective that I already used to describe the Super Bowl. I'll watch, but I'm not exactly sure why. Florida by 25.
-
LOL Think I like him better now.
-
I watched him on the MVP/NFL award show the night before. There is definitely something not right. It seems he took one too many blind side hits during his playing career.

I honestly think a decent college team could have beaten Denver last night. Goodness. Not that Seattle didn't play well (they did) but it honestly wouldn't have mattered if it were the Jacksonville Jaguars-they still would have lost. The nerves got to the entire roster and they imploded in every way imaginable.-everyone from Champ Bailey to Peyton Manning to Trindon Holliday. You lose playing like that against anyone, but against the Seahawks it was so epically embarassing that even as a diehard Bronco fan, my honest reaction to most of it was just to laugh. I mean, what else can you do your team has the best offense in NFL history and can't get a single first down until midway through the second quarter? It's going to be awfully hard to get excited for next season, even assuming Manning is back. Frankly, I don't know how you mentally come back from something like that and have a decent season the next year.
-
True. But not for MIssouri. Even if we sneak in (which I tend to believe we will) Mizzou has no chance. The first team we play with a good big man would bounce us pretty easily. The only way that isn't true is if we were to get on fire and hit 10-15 threes. My first thought is that there is a great window for a team like Wichita State to get back to the final four.

Go Broncos! Refs, only get in the way if it helps Peyton Manning get another ring.

We're lucky to have Clarkson and Brown on this team. It's pretty rare to have two players that special on one team. Let's throw Ross in there too, even though he didn't play as well last night. That said, our frontcourt is essentially that of a mid-major. JWIII has talent, but is far too raw for a game like this. To be blunt, Neither Criswell nor Rosburg looked like they were ready to face a team like Kentucky. Our guards are good enough to beat bad and midlevel SEC teams by themselves often as not, but it's hard to see them competing at Florida. The Ole Miss game next Saturday is huge. Especially on the road, that presents another rare opportunity for a good RPI win that could actually move the needle on Selection Sunday. That game and the remaining home and home against Tennessee will be key. None of those three games can give us a 'marquee" win, but all would be solid RPI boosters. I think we have to win 2 of those 3 (assuming a loss in Gainesville), and win everything else. That would get us to 12-6 (and 24-7 overall) and too many wins to turn down. Of course if they somehow win at Florida they become a virtual lock, but I hesitate to even bring that up as a possibility. Just staying close would be a nice accomplisment. Bottom line: we have to win one of the two brutally tough road games this week or hope is really going to fade.
-
Close. If we don't get this one the pressure will be enormous in the next game at Florida. And that's not a game you want to feel like you have to win, because it is going to be much, much tougher than UK at home. We can reach the NCAAs without winning either, but to do so, it's going to take something like 24 wins in all likelihood. That means getting to 11-7 or 12-6 in SEC play, which will be a challenge (though not impossible) without winning either of the next two games.

Well, Kentucky is not having a very good season this year. After not making the NCAA tournament at all last year, they are hovering right on the edge of the tournament bubble again way too late in the season for their fanbases sensibilities. Right now, 5 star freshman and all, this is a team that is, without all the Kentucky tradition, not that different from Tennessee or Arkansas or LSU. But it's still Kentucky. And Missouri blew a great chance to beat them at their place last year. If we can win, no one will remember in 2 years that Kentucky wasn't very good. Beating them is still a chance for a season highlight and a potentially helpful win to get into the NCAAs. Not often will Mizzou have such a great chance to knock off a John Calipari lead UK team. We better get it done tomorrow. Kentucky is just too young and lacks too much leadership to come in here and get a win, IMO. That was on display against LSU and Arkansas. Frankly, I think a UK win would be a fairly significant upset given the game is in MIzzou arena. Though I believe Vegas considers MIssouri a very slight underdog, so that is pretty open for interpretation. I'll go 82-74 Missouri. I hope they don't prove me wrong.

I agree with you in theory. But it's hard to recruit top major conference talent to a defense-first type of program. Wisconsin makes it work, but really, the list isn't long at all. Missouri has improved enough on that end to where it's not embarassing. If we could have our current defense and the 2011-12 offense we'd be a lock for the final four:) But yeah, you could definitely argue SLU has the best defense in the country. The problem for them, is that to advance very far in the NCAAs their offense will need to improve dramatically. Because according to most rating systems they are well in the bottom half of D-1 on that side of the ball.
-
I agree, Snap. Not to pick on the Atlantic Ten, but in a major conference you have to bring it every night. The SEC gets a bad rap, but there are really only two "bad" teams (South Carolina and Auburn.) The rest will beat any team that doesn't come out and play well in any given game. No one thinks of teams like Texas A&M, LSU, Alabama, or Vanderbilt as being good teams. But they all have quality talent, and when you get them on their home court they are a tough out. You just don't get Fordham or Duquesne popping up on the schedule. That's not to come down on the Atlantic Ten. SLU, UMass, VCU, and George Washington are all good teams that will scare people in March if they can get in (SLU is a lock, unless they essentially lose the rest of their games, but the rest still have to play well down the stretch just to get to the NCAAs.) But the dropoff is a lot, lot steeper after that IMO.
-
Some of us do not have the luxury of just switching allegiances when another team happens to have a slightly higher winning percentage:) But for real, I agree with you that are big men are the defintion of unskilled. The exception being JWIII who is still raw, but has a ton of potential. But horrible guard play? I don't know of anyone that would agree with you on that. They (Clarkson, Brown, and Ross) have a "selfish" style, because they are the only ones that are capable of scoring on a regular basis. For such horrible guards, there are sure a lot of folks saying that Brown and Clarkson are the best backcourt duo in the SEC. The reality is that we are 16-4 in a rebuilding season. That's not bad.
-
Yeah, Kentucky will always get top 5 hype.....even coming off an NIT season. I do expect them to make the tournament, but they are essentially just another bubble team at this point. It came against some tougher competition and their RPI number is somewhat better, but it's funny to think their win/loss record is actually worse than Missouri's. And everyone is saying Missouri is the last team in or first out. The Wildcats better be careful.
-
Well, that was fun. Arkansas made it very, very tough down the stretch, but Missouri found a way to make just enough shots. One thing about Frank Haith: he is pretty good at getting plays called out of timeouts. That has gotten Missouri out of more than a few jams in late game situations this year; it nearly always has resulted in an open 3 that ties the game or retakes the lead. Even though we've later given some of those games away on the defensive end, it's a vast, vast improvement in that area over last year. If Missouri keeps it going, this win has a chance to help save the season. They get back to a respectable 4-3 in league play. If they can knock off Kentucky, they'll go into the back half of league play in good shape for the NCAA tournament. With a loss to Kentucky, they're will be pressure to either knock off Florida on the road (that's gonna be tough, though not impossible) or somehow get to 24-25 wins and take it out of the committees hands. But realistically, they have to beat Kentucky or Florida.
-
That was a disappointment to me. I only have ESPN &ESPN 2......gonna have to listen to this one on the radio, most likely. A bit of a surprise too, as this is could have been billed as a "rivalry" game between two pretty decent teams. Oh well.
-
I agree with you on Arkansas.....both teams win big at home. I do think we knock off Kentucky at home. It's just tough to see even a decent Missouri team losing twice at home in one season, and they have played good basketball at home since that Georgia debacle. And we've already knocked off one team here of UK's caliber in UCLA. The Wildcats just aren't anything special, despite their hype in the preseason. The road game at Florida screams ugly loss, but maybe they'll surprise us.
-
I'm not. I think Arkansas wins in a blowout, honestly.
-
Not a great performance by Mizzou today against SC, but at this point I'm taking league wins pretty much however they can be had. This was a 12-20 point game most of the way, but they tried to give it up at the end when South Carolina made a pretty furious rally. That said, I don't think the outcome was ever in much doubt. So Missouri is now a disappointing, but not disastrous 3-3 in league play, and 15-4 overall.....the latter number sure sounds a lot better. We have the win over UCLA balanced out by two bad losses (Vandy and Georgia.) If the season ended now we'd probably be either one of the last teams let into the NCAA tournament or one the first out. Take your pick. So this next week may be the biggest of the regular season. A road game at Arkansas on Tuesday is followed by a home game against Kentucky. IF we can somehow, against odds, win both, the early troubles are basically irrelavent. But that is highly, highly unlikely. I'd guess that we beat UK home and lose to Arkansas on the road, because this team has played so much better at home. But we'll have to play well to win either one. If we get swept, we're down to 3-5. That'd be bad, considering we probably need to get to at least 10-8 in conference play to make the big dance.

My question is how can Peyton rub you the wrong way and Sherman doesn't? You might be the only one. I see Welker is really classless, 2x over.
-
The play that injured Talib should have been offensive PI. No argument there. But let's not pretend that it was an attempt to injure the guy, as Bellichick came out and said. It was an attempt to keep Talib from becoming a factor in that particular play, and that's it. What he did is routine for both Denver and New England receivers, it was just unfortunate that it resulted in an injury. I understand most of you are Chiefs fans and will root like all heck against Denver and Peyton Manning. But are you really prepared to cheer for a team that A, has Richard Sherman on its roster, and B, calls itself the Legion of Boom? Your call there. I am a huge Russell WIlson fan, but that obviously goes by the wayside in a couple weeks.
-
I'm sorry, but that's unreasonable to expect folks to do that. I can agree with you on maybe not naming the exact spot, but let's not pretend this is classified information. If you are blurring out the background of a photo not to give away a honey hole......it's either the best spot in the world or you are taking yourself a bit too seriously IMO.
-
The fumble call was obviously terrible, but it's hard to blame San Frans loss on that when they got the ball back a couple plays later anyway. It could have had a huge impact on the game but in the end, didn't at all. I'm sorry, but Richard Sherman's trash talking after the game does not put him in a good light. He's a good player for sure, but the doesn't give him an excuse to be a total jackwagon. I have to hope that Demaryius Thomas torches him in a couple weeks.

This. FWIW, on the Maramec Spring subforum, I only have to look three topics down to find another thread on the exact same issue initated by a different member. And I've read about it a whole bunch in past years on here. My biggest confusion is why did it suddenly become a problem when it has been openly discussed a number of times up to this point?

I am well aware of the report that started all of this, and my post was geared towards that. But more generally, I am commenting on those that try to intimidate (or whatever word you want to use) others into not posting fishing reports. If you think someone is in the wrong by posting a particularly detailed report, there is a much, much better way to go about it than ya'll have chosen. The reality is that unless it's a spot someone revealed to you, or if there are rules on this forum about naming streams, it's a judgement call for each person to make. It's important that each of us try to to be careful not to give up too much on too fragile of a water, but the definition of that is going to be different for different people

That will be an interesting matchup between Seattle's secondary and Denver's receivers. Whoever wins in that area will probably win the game.
