  1. Well that is your right. But if it was me, I'd be worrying more about the "just in case" of some sort of tragic accident coming of you constantly carrying a gun than any situation where you'd actually have to use the thing.
  2. There is always a risk of something like that happening....But it's also always very small. I find life is too short for me to be constantly looking over my shoulder. If some situation like what you're talking about is gonna happen to me, then it's gonna happen. In the meantime I won't worry about it, knowing that there's 99% chance that it won't ever happen.
  3. That would be okay too. Maybe I'll have to see exactly how many million it will set be back to buy one of the Paradise Valley creeks...
  4. I guess if we're aiming that high I'll just move to England and buy my own chalk stream.
  5. Not all of us...After a good, long day of fishing on a beautiful Ozark stream, I already feel better than any human being ever should have the right to. No need for anything to help that along. Well actually now that I say that, I shouldn't say there isn't a need for anything else. If they banned taking Stag Chili and fritos with you on the river, then I'd be a definitively unhappy person...
  6. Thanks for posting. But....There are some cheaper options for treating felt soles so that they are legal. http://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/mdc-bans-porous-soled-waders-help-protect-trout-waters-invasive-algae
  7. Very interesting! Thanks for the link.
  8. I'm thinking more along the lines of getting rid of some of my stuff, simplifying a bit. I've got too much stuff already. It just gets in the way when you've got 15 different fly patterns in your box when all you need is 5-7. Also I plan to be getting rid of all the annoying dangling stuff on my vest, the nail knot tool, clippers etc. Nail knots are time consuming and unnecessary, and teeth work great for cutting line. Oh, I guess I'll be getting some contact cement sometime in the near future. And maybe another bamboo rod.
  9. That's very interesting. News to me, thanks for posting that. If not it's fine, but could you maybe post a link to where you read that? I had heard somewhere about there being some brookies on the super private Danforth Stretch of Spring Creek, but other than that I haven't heard of any in Missouri. I've been meaning for quite awhile to get to the Norfork in Arkansas to try for some brookies, but I haven't got around to it. Every time I'm thinking about doing that I end up going down to the Current instead. It would be fun though I think, and worth the longer drive. Maybe despite what I said earlier that would be a interesting goal for 2012.
  10. Well, mine is pretty simple...Spend as much time on beautiful Ozark streams as possible and hopefully catch a fish or two while I'm there!
  11. The atmosphere was easily the craziest of any game I've ever been to.Especially with the comeback at the end. Denmon has been off since OSU, but he sure did make up for it tonight when it really counted. This puts Mizzou at 4-0 in games decided by 4 or less... They just find a way to win the tight ones. I guess that has a lot to do with their free-throw shooting, although Denmon actually missed one tonight!
  12. Huh, I guess I missed something. Just as well.
  13. Absolutely awesome pictures! Can't beat getting into smallies right in the middle of the winter.
  14. Dang right! Who cares about the Patriots and the Giants anyway? I think we have as good of a chance as we'll ever have against Kansas this year, but we'll just have to see how it plays out.
  15. I doubt the fine will be all that much, but I do hope that it's significant enough to at least be a deterrent. I've personally decided to go with the contact cement route instead of buying new boots. I know that it will probably be the cause of me having even more Funniest Home Video moments on the stream, but such is life. I couldn't possibly have that many more of those than I already did with felt. You could put together a whole comedy reel from most every weekend I spend on the river. Just add a laugh track and you could probably get it put on Comedy Central...
  16. If you want this thing defeated, you want people to write their senators. And if you run off conservatives by making this a partisan issue, then you're just shooting yourself in the foot. This particular senator does seem to be a rather ignorant and/or malicious one. I hope he gets voted out in the next election. But it isn't productive to use a fishing forum to tell people how to vote, so I'm not going to do that. Nobody actually listens to that anyway. The best we can do is to write or senators and help see that this bill doesn't get anywhere.
  17. That's good...I bet if everyone who read this thread did the same it just might be able to have a very positive effect.
  18. I don't really care what political party the person who introduced the bill is...A classic case of missing the point. The important thing is to email your senator and tell them what you think about this, no matter what party they belong to. Let us not make this partisan. This is something everyone who is environmentally minded should care about.
  19. Anyone else going to the Mizzou-Kansas Game tomorrow night? I managed to get a ticket for this one, the first game I've gotten to since we destroyed Kennesaw State a couple of months back. Should be a good one...From watching KU play, I think they'd be pretty vulnerable to a team that can shoot well from the three point line, which definitely describes Mizzou this year at least on a good night. Don't know how we're going to manage Robinson though given our lack of size. Anyway I'm looking forward to it. KU fans may not reply to this thread:)
  20. Well it seems as if we won't have to worry about airplanes clouding up the sky for a bit....At least here it's awful nasty and rainy, although we could use the precipitation.
  21. If folks want to inconvenience themselves by using multiple hooks in pursuit of record fish, then more power to 'em! I'll just sit back and laugh while they are constantly getting their fancy little rig tangled up.
  22. Yes JoeD, but all of us on here like to spend a great deal of time idly philosophising about things over which we have absolutely no control:)
  23. I agree. If less people had the "Old West" mentality, thinking it's necessary to have a gun with you at all times, these situations wouldn't have the potential to get so bad. I'm referring to both landowners and folks using the rivers here. Not to get off topic, but guns are for hunting, or for self defense in the most extreme of circumstances. They're not something that you ought to be carrying with you all the time "just in case" , or even to threaten someone off you're property if they are trespassing. In truth, though it's wrong and I wouldn't do it now, who among us hasn't trespassed sometime in the past when we were young, rabbit hunting, fishing, or just hiking around? A landowner with carrying a gun and a trigger-happy attitude is a good way for minor situations to get out of hand quickly and unnecessarily.
  24. I know. I have no reason to believe that Chief did anything wrong, and that his situation was anything other than the result of a none too sane landowner. What I'm saying is unrelated to that case.
