  1. The UT game will be interesting. But ultimately I don't think their o-line can hold up to Ray/Golden. It's a "should-win" game, even if it's not a sure thing. If we win, that Arkansas/Mizzou game will be epic. Mizzou playing for the east, Arkansas playing for bowl eligiblity which is suddenly within reach.
  2. That Texas A&M game is looking a lot harder now. Aggies up 28-17 on Auburn right now. This is a team that was last seen losing 59-0 to 'bama and barely slipping past a crappy Sun Belt team. College football is weird.
  3. I just don't know...... I'm under the impression they're supposed to be wild, self-sustaining trout. If they aren't doing well due to natural reasons (drought, low flow, etc) and the population dips, that's just kind of how it goes, right? It's different if we were talking about erosion issues from grazing or gravel mining, or something along those lines (don't get me started on Little Piney and how far under its potential it currently sits due to that.) Those are things we can (and should) actually do something about. I don't believe those things are a major issue on Blue Springs, but I'm more than willing to be told I'm wrong if that's the case. But it seems it's just too small and not deep enough to be ideal trout habitat (though in the grand scheme of things, it isn't bad.) I don't know if that's something we need to mess with for the sake of a non-native species. Ultimately, any "stream improvement" on a (non-troutpark) MO trout stream probably should be because habitat for native species (fish, insects, crayfish, whatever) is currently degraded, and the trout fishery would have to be a secondary consideration. Again, that might be the case at Blue Spring, but considering the land ownership around it, I find it unlikely. But you just don't want to come to the realization that you messed with "the way things should be" for the sake of something that doesn't even belong here.
  4. To get right to the point, I question if money has much to do with your actual reasoning here. This is a drop in the bucket, in terms of funding. Nearly irrelevent when you consider the money being spent to stock up Taney/Trout Parks, etc. I think the real reason people object to it is because they don't view it as "real trout fishing" and "what benefit do I get out of it?" Guess what, by nature, the MDC is going to mostly cater to rural folks. So there's nothing to complain about. Things like stocking a few urban ponds with 10" trout is a way of saying, "hey, we do something for you guys too, so you should actually care about our existence." LIke it or not, it's a state agency, and most of the population in our state is in urban areas. It's a must that they do something to cater to people living in cities. No way around that.
  5. It does seem like Pinkel's choice to hang with Maty could at least work out okay in the end. I didn't support it after the Georgia and Florida offensive performances, but he's at least morphed back into a viable game-manager that doesn't turn the ball over the last two games*. That's barely a shadow of what he showed us last October (and this September, albeit against pretty weak competion) but it's been enough to win some games. And as long as we're contending, a QB change is anywhere from unlikely to completely out of the question. *Although he should have had a pick-six today.
  6. Here's the problem with that line of thinking: the MDC is a state organization, and most of the population lives in KC/STL/Jeff City/COMO/Springfield. There aren't a lot of conservation areas or other MDC benefits in those areas, compared to your average rural area (for completely obvious and unavoidable reasons.) Still it's never bad to build up a bit of goodwill with the majority of the people in your state if you want to remain viable. And let's be honest, there's no real harm done. A few less trout in Bennett Springs. Who on earth cares?
  7. Same here. It's fun, weirdly so. It's not necessarily trout fishing in the strictest sense, but it's definitely being outside when you could be inside. So I'm not going to turn my nose up at it anytime soon. And yeah, stocked trout are fine to eat. Not great, but fine, and there's no guilt.
  8. What a bizarre season.....Georgia still has Auburn as a likely loss, so Mizzou can probably afford to lose another game and get to Atlanta at 9-3. Bottom line- we're 7-2, 4-1 in the SEC, and the favorite to play for an SEC title. And yet I'm still not convinced that we're actually any good. Except Shane Ray. He's definitely good. I hope we get to Atlanta, of course. But if it happens, Ole Miss/Auburn/'bama/Miss. State might beat us 50-0. I'm not confident that's an exaggeration.
  9. One thing I think we can say with certainty: the Will Muschamp era is over at Florida. It might happen this week, or in late November, but it's over. I kinda like the guy, but he's way out of his depth. He's a great DC but apparently not meant to be an HC at an SEC school.
  10. Maty Mauk is still struggling, but Mizzou just had perhaps the weirdest blowout win over an SEC opponent in the history of ever. Whatever, at this point. I've given up on figuring them out. If they can beat Vandy, and clinch a bowl bid I'll just relax and enjoy the rest of the season. But we could easily turn right around and lose to Vandy 24-0, so again, whatever. I love this team, but they are impossible to figure out.
  11. Yep. Mizzou doesn't really need to be told about the difficulty of the conference at this point. We've seen the extreme positives and negatives of that in equal measure in our 2.5 years in the conference so far and there's really nothing left to learn. We're just not very good this year, so we're taking some bad losses. IU isn't an SEC team and they took us down. Actually, we're in a total crap division this year. If we were even decent we'd have a shot to win it. Even Uga's pretty mediocre, as much as we made them look like an NFL team Saturday.
  12. Eh, none of that matters if you don't have a QB. I don't care if we were in the Big 12 playing, say, Iowa State, we lose with yesterday's effort.
  13. The skying is falling, but......that might be a bit overdramatic. I think we still beat Vandy and find another win or two somewhere else. This was a bad loss, but with (hopefully) a spark from a new QB (really, anyone else, pick a random dude from the stands), they should still be expected to make a bowl game.
  14. Yup. Awful. Time for the Eddie Printz era, if he's ready. If not, Corbin Berkstresser. But it's time to move on from Maty on a very permanent basis. He isn't going to be the answer for this program. It's sad, but abundantly clear. Now it's time to head down to the Cedar Creek area to hopefully drown my sorrows in some pretty country and fall colors. Boy do I need it after that debacle.
  15. "Climate change has been occuring, in its current, anthropogenic form, for approximately 150 years." As long as you're twisting everything to fit your argument, this isn't worth doing.
  16. To make comparisons to DGB or Jameis Winston is really irresponsible. Todd Gurley is accused of making money from an autograph. Not in the same stratosphere as the accusations of violence against Winston and DGB, and Winston has been suspended for all of one game his entire college career. Also another wild incongruity: Jameis Winston played while being investigated for rape. Todd Gurley can't play while he's being investigated for accepting a few $20 bills. Makes total sense. I realize that neither were found guilty for their crime (though in DGB's case, most weren't left with a lot of questions) but for all we know, it may turn out that there isn't enough proof that Gurley is even guilty of this. Then what? You ruin his Heisman campaign and possibly UGA's season due to some hotshot vying for attention? I wouldn't rule that out. So yes, I'm guiltily happy about this as a Mizzou fan. But as a football fan, this is total crap. Something has to change to keep these things from happening every time the NCAA feels like its time to prove some inane point.
  17. $400 bucks......and he's sitting out a game that will bring Georgia, Mizzou, CBS, and the NCAA who knows how many bucketloads of cash. That's how much some of us spend on a decent fly rod, for someone who is the best player in college football and is the only reason anyone pays attention to the SEC east. You know without a shadow of a doubt there are many players making enough from boosters that this amount is mere pocket change. The NCAA wanted to make a statement here by going after the Heisman fav, but IMO they're just harming the product on the field by taking a great player off it for no good reason. Even as a Mizzou fan, that's incredibly stupid.
  18. Incredible. Missouri misses him two years in a row. Hope we can capitalize on it. Saturday is still going to be a very tough game, but I definitely feel better about it now. (I know you're not supposed to be happy about opposing players being suspended, especially in a college game. And for violating some NCAA rule that I'm sure is beyond stupid. But are you really going to judge Mizzou fans who are excited about this? We still have at best a 50/50 shot in this game.)
  19. The thing is, you can't really remove the debate by adding teams. You can only move it down. There are passionate arguments over team #68 vs. team #69 in college basketball. You can be sure there will be passionate arguments over #4/#5, but that's just human nature. Nothing anyone can do to change that.
  20. I know this isn't popular but I like the bowl games. I'd be fine with an 8 team playoff, but that's about it. Any more would add too many games and take too much away from the current bowl structure. I mean, if we have 32 teams we're going to have games like NC State vs. Minnesota in a tournament intended to decide a national champion. I'm fine with that type of thing in college basketball, where the regular season has long since been devalued.....but in college football, if you go 8-4, I feel like you should be in Shreveport playing the #7 team in the ACC instead of getting a chance to contend for a national title. The whole thing with college football as we know it is that you have to be great to contend for a title (unlike most other sports, where simply being above average is enough to crack the playoff/tournament bracket) but decent-good teams still get a tangible reward in terms of a bowl game. It's not a bad system as it currently stands, IMO.
  21. Just a question: Do you understand what a "trend" is? Specifically, that it doesn't indicate that temperature will be rising constantly, and linearly, without any pauses. Climate change has been occuring, in its current, anthropogenic form, for approximately 150 years. Things evening out a bit over a tiny portion of that time period does not mean the trend doesn't exist, it can just as easily be an anomaly (based on myriad natural factors that can effect weather over a short period of time) before temperatures begin rising quickly once again. Again, most scientists believe this to be the case, based on a strong correlation over many years between CO2 releases and temperature. What you are doing is a slightly more thought out, well-researched version of, "heck, it's been a cold winter, so global warming must not be real after all." In the end, the issue is still the same, and the biggest problem people have with climate change: people get "weather" and "climate" confused.
  22. Mizzou gets CBS this week against Georgia. That will be one of at least two games they come to this year (the other being Arkansas) after skipping us entirely last season. I believe at that time they said something about how Mizzou just doesn't draw enough viewers to warrant much in the way of coverage by them, despite being one of the two best teams in the conference (last year.) I guess they realized their mistake a year late? Glad I plan to be at the game so I don't have to help their ratings.............Anyway, huge game. WInner has all kinds of margin for error in terms of winning the east. Which is important because with the schedules yet to come, both UGA and Mizzou are probably going to lose at least two more games.
  23. Yep, weird day. Somehow Mississippi is going to come out of the day with 2 of the top 3 teams in the SEC West, as Alabama and LSU are relegated to the role of pretender/spoiler for the foreseeable future. Texas A&M apparently isn't that good after all. The top 2 teams in the Big 12 meanwhile are both from Texas, but neither of them is Texas. Let that soak in a bit. And all of these statements will probably look dumb in a week when all the top teams lose again. It's that kind of season.
  24. That seems hopeless. No way you can remove enough to effect the population where they're already abundant, and removing new arrivals just delays the problem until the next flood brings them up. Frankly, I think we just have to prepare for the "carpocalypse", because I don't think there's an answer. They will invade all suitable habitat, and leave us with whatever's left. Sad, but there are only methods to delay this, not stop it.
  25. I think it's questionable that I would start Brady over anyone right now. But other than that, I agree.
