Which section of the North Platte will you be fishing?

Thought you guys might enjoy this story. https://thatsagoodfish.com/2016/08/08/the-battle-of-leroy-brown-or-the-old-man-the-brown-trout-or-a-grizzled-veteran-stands-his-ground/

Caught a trout out of Shoal Sunday on a smallmouth bait. We were fishing near Cherry Corner when my buddy said he saw one hit his bass jig, I threw in there and got him on the next cast. Curious as to anyone's theories as to how he got there, that is a long swim from Hickory or Capps.

Anyone know if it is ok to put in for a float at the Old Hwy E Bridge near Grandby? I had heard that there was no access there but when I drove by there was a well worn path down to the creek and it was not posted. I don't want to trespass but we are looking for a spot to float down to Cherry Corner. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I caught your fish last weekend. I think he is the only one in that hole. Don't know how he has survived being so eager to bite.
-
Well, he certainly is better than me and I defiantly hate it, but yes we are friends. I was the one at Capps carrying the empty bucket on Sunday...for awhile at least. I can confirm that the secret bait is a 12 inch power worm threaded on a 1/2 oz spinner bait with a single Indiana blade. Sorry PSUwill knowing was eating me up inside.

Pretty easy to take a picture of a 17 inch fish, post it, and claim you caught "5 bows over 20". How convenient you were by yourself when all this happened. Also if RR can't hold your interest how did you summon the motivation to drive down from KC in the middle of the night. I know we are all fisherman but we should at least post truthful reports here. You are probably one of the guys I saw at Capps Creek last Sunday carrying around an empty bucket. Please share your secret BIG bait with us so we can all catch 21's and 22's all day.

...now that I think about it... a fish with that clean of fins coming out of roaring river doesn't seem that likely either...I wouldn't buy it....please twist his arm harder! I would like to get to the bottom of this.

Are we looking at the same fish because I am pretty sure that thing is as big as he says. A 17 or 18 inch fish generally does not photograph well at all. Look at the size compared to his camera case and reel. Even if that is a very small reel it is still a very big fish. As far as the stream team goes have you guys considered placing trash cans around the area or providing stream team bags to visitors. A stream team provided bags when we floated the niangua a while back. I was at hickory on Saturday and had trouble finding a trash can in the park.

Probably out of Roaring River. I have seen a lot of fish in that place that look like that. Hickory is full of equal amounts of trash and suckers. If you think that fish came out of there you belong in the latter group.

Hey I am new to the area and have just started fishing shoal. I don't have a canoe but would love to wade and fish. I looked and none of the maps I have or google earth show shoal going into jasper county anywhere. Is this a different stream or the same one that goes through wild cat park? Thanks for any info.

Fishing on Hickory is still good right now. We were down Tuesday evening and caught 11 between my self and a buddy. Work the holes over good and don't be afraid to throw near root wads and other (actual) trash. Most of the fish still in there didn't stay by being out in the open. I am a jig only guy as well so I can't help you on fly selection. Let me know for sure on the clean up and I will try to come down and help.

Has anyone caught any fish in this area of the creek near Joplin? It is near my house but my results have been mixed (one fish but he was big). Any info would be great.

I went to Pittsburg State from 04-08 and fished on the bass team there. We spent a lot of hours on the strip pits, they are great nearly year round once you adjust to fishing them. The trout pit is cool but get there early or late because it is clear and they don't bite well (or at all) during the day. They stock from October to March and there are now golden bows (you can see them), bows, and browns. Because of the depth and size of the pit the fish can survive year round so every now and then a big one will take a swing at your jerkbait. Very unique experience over there everyone should try it.

I see you are already looking for an excuse to not to fish this weekend "PSUWill". We all know you are just afraid to test your own hand tied jigs against my masterpieces. Maybe I will give you some more so you can catch some fish too. MAYBE! On a serious note one of my friends from high school might be coming down to fish with us but he fly fishes so he shouldn't get in our way.

I agree that the stream could be better managed and clean up could be more of a priority. The upper end of the stream from the low water bridge to the 86 bridge is borderline at best and the rest of the stream is pretty embarrassing in my opinion. Having lived in southwest Missouri my whole life and teaching in Joplin now, I understand that there is not much that I can do to change the culture that is causing this kind of behavior e. g. poaching and littering. Going to the city with a plan would not really solve the problem even if they did adopt it with great intentions. The people of Neosho are not interested in being told what to do by a bunch of us "outsiders" and I also do not think they are too concerned about building a world class trout fishery. I like your intention but I think that calling the poaching hotline and picking up some trash each time we go is probably the best we can do.

Yeah they didn't stock down there that I am aware of, in fact I have never caught a fish down there. They stocked most of the pools from the low water bridge up stream. Chief, that couldn't have been me although i wish it was I have been out of town since the 23rd. Hope you had a good trip.

Thanks for the info, went to day and had a good time. Lots of fisherman for such a cold day but I guess that it is a saturday. Fished with jigs from about 1-4 and caught some from the section you fished and even managed a hook jawed 16 inch male that was spewing. How was roaring river, I am thinking of going on monday in spite of the the cold. Thanks again hopper.

Was getting down there a couple of times a month from joplin but the fish have been getting pretty spread out since early november. I was wondering if they had stocked. I will probably go tomorrow regardless but would give me a little extra motivation if it had been stocked.

I have been over there twice this fall and used hip wadders without any problems. There are plenty of places to cross without any trouble. It is a beautiful stream with beautiful fish enjoy!!!

I thought of you guys today when there was snow on the ground when I got up. I was at hickory and capps yesterday. Caught 7 at hickory fishing from the low water bridge all the way up. I caught 6 at capps, 5 bows one brown. Fished downstream from the railroad bridge and got three in the first riffle. Then went down to the bridge at the conservation area and fished up til dark and caught 3 more. Caught them all on a black jig really had to work though.

Looks like you guys may be a couple of days late. I fished capps today and it was beautiful outside. Also helped that I caught 5 nice bows and a 16 in brown. Good luck.
