  1. I tried a SOT and I just didn't like it. I felt tottery and exposed, if tottery is really a word. I'm not saying they are, just that I didn't feel comfortable. A sit in brought me back to my comfort zone and I was really having fun with it.
  2. Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear.
  3. I totally agree UnCivE. I got to see them side-by-side and could not see where that extra $100 went. And I'm a tinkerer by nature too. And out of all the 'yaks I looked at, the Ascend was the only one with a dedicated place for a crate! Have you had it awhile? What's your opinion now of performance on the water?
  4. Well, I started looking for a canoe, but I have changed my mind and am on the hunt for a kayak to float and fish from. After browsing 3 places in Springfield and spending many hours reading online reviews and refining my Google-fu, the leader at the moment is the Ascend D-12 from, of all places, Bass Pro.. Anyone paddling one of these? Opinion? Folks on several other forums are pretty impressed with this 'yak.
  5. All of the wood canoes I've seen, I just couldn't bring myself to take a work of art like that out on a creek to scrap it on a shallow shoal.
  6. Some friends!!!!!! Well, I had a monkey wrench thrown into the mix last night. Went to a friends place and we got to talking about fishing and I brought up that I wanted a canoe to float and fish the streams around down here. Well, one thing led to another and I ended up sitting in a couple of his 'yaks and I may have just changed my mind about the canoe. Going this weekend to try a couple out on the water. I'm doomed!
  7. I was a bit sceptical too. Now, granted this is their website, but: http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/canoes/anatomy/materials/index.html Supposed to be just as durable as Royalexe, better abrasion resitant, but heavier and not as stiff. And some cheaper. And I can also get one brand new out the door for a bit over $400. But I'm still watching CraigsList for another week.
  8. this is a timely thread as I'm lookin for a canoe also. I'm lookin pretty hard at this one, Old Town Saranac 146 Canoe I'm not a small guy and this will just be for our local streams and such. And yes, it will be fishing pimped!!!!
  9. With a day full of those, I'd have a smile on my face that you couldn't wipe off with a sledgehammer!!!!! Nicely done sir. It seems that Mother Nature has forgotten that she can send the rain on any of the "other" 5 days of the week!!!
  10. I gotta stop reading this forum. Wait, I can use the 'gills for bait for catfishing!!!! I can always find justification. w00t!
  11. I'm thinkin he wore kayaks on his feet as shoes.
  12. Nice catch. The rain and the temp drop skunked me. I slipped out for a 2 hour break in the rain, but all I got was a "volunteer" sunfish bait donor. Then the rain came back and I made a dash for the house. Went to the mouth of Beaver Creek on Bull Shoals. Water is still pretty high too.
  13. Go figure, RAIN!!!!!
  14. When it comes to cats, aint nobody nuts!! Just more creative than the rest. I'm more than likely going to bring some shrimp, livers and worms. May pick up a few minners too. Anyone know where to get Secret 7 dip bait in the Branson area? Wanted to give it a try too.
  15. Gonna go for a try this weekend depending on the rain. Anything inparticular they are biting?
  16. Cool, if you can hit me with some contact information, I'll pass it on to him.
  17. Whoa, 14' is to big. I'm looking to pond hop and need something I can handle alone. But I have a buddy who will most likely be very interested. Let me get back to you this morning. He'll be here in an hour or so. Shoot me a price and I might help you clean up your yard a bit. Lee
  18. Going to hit the pits for some B'gill bustin in June with the flyrod. I'm stoked.
  19. Hey folks, I'm on the hunt for a 10' or 12' flat bottom. Doesn't have to be perfect, just in the 100-150 range. This will be for small water ponds and such. Something I can throw in the truck or on a small trailer. Reply here or send me a PM. Thanks y'all. Lee PS-Lilly, maybe you have a neglected one hanging around the resort?
  20. Maybe next time, would be fun. I had to finesse this in between on call weekends.
  21. Warlock, I'm bringing my waders so can do both. Tims Shop is already on the agenda. I wouldn't miss is for the world.
  22. How about meeting at the Park in Crane around 9AM?
  23. I've known Warlock for many years and he can testify that when I have time on my hands, something devious occurs. I'm sitting in my office planning my driving route and notice that Crane is within an easy drive. So, I'm playing with the idea, read most likely going to happen, of checking out of the room early Monday and skipping up there for a few hours of fishing. I've been trying the last few weekends to get up there and things just have not panned out. Well, I'm pretty sure they are going to pan out this time. HEHEHEHEHE!!!! Warlock is NOT going to be happy!!!!!!!!
  24. Welcome back home. We may not have anything that might compare to a tuna, but get a 24" brown on a flyrod and you'll be kinda close!!!!!!!! And GO RAIDERS!!!!! can't do much worse than last year.
