  1. I'll give up my dingler when they pry my cold dead hands from it! WM
  2. Fished Stockton over Labor Day weekend. Was only cut off by one boat that was tubing, boat traffic on the lake was pretty manageable. Fished BB/slow death on the big Sac arm Saturday. Caught four walleye in about three and a half hours, only one 16.5" keeper. He was released in grease. Sunday trolled flicker shads on lead in the little Sac arm. Caught, 10 or 12 walleye and at least that many LM and Whites in four hours of fishing. Was a nice day, my wife ran the boat so all I had to do was reel in fish. I thought to myself, this must be what it is like fishing with Bob Bennett or Marty Thompson... But anyway, several were keepers, all were released to fight another day. Was a pretty lazy weekend, hit the water about noon each day. Didn't fish Monday due to the wind, and I needed to be home fairly early. Hope to be back in a couple of weeks. WM
  3. Glad to have you back on the forum, Marty. I've really missed your reports. Hope your mother in law's condition is improving. WM
  4. Here's a little bit of slow death rig information form Mustad's website. http://www.mustad.no/slowdeath/ WM
  5. Glad to hear the walley's are biting. With a little luck, I'll be down this weekend. Were all seven keepers? WM
  6. Welcome aboard Wallin. How's the fishin' been this summer? WM
  7. You guys crack me up! WM
  8. Yep, you know what they say. There's more than one way to filet a sea kitten. WM
  9. Devils Lake is actually in North Dakota. Here is a web link with more information. http://nd.water.usgs.gov/devilslake/ WM
  10. This has nothing to do with Stockton, but... The only "development" that I'm aware of on the south side of the lake is the casino. Woodland is probably the biggest resort I'm aware of. We stay at a place called Lakeview Lodge. I would highly recommend it. Howard's Bay is on the south side of the lake, south of Grahams Island. WM
  11. Cool! The walleye in my avatar is a DL walleye. That is Howard's Bay in the back ground. I have gone up there the last three years, it's an awesome lake. Great Pike fishing too. I'll try to PM you before we head up next year, maybe you'll have inside information? LOL Hope I'm not making you homesick! WM
  12. Thanks Straw hat. I rarely keep fish anyway, so the fact they were all shorts didn't bother me at all. We were planning on eating some fish, but I had brought some filets from Devils Lake just in case! That's a great link Carp E Diem. Slow Death rigs are easy to tie, and the hooks are cheap compared to many other presentations. I think you will have success with it. WM
  13. Nice fish lonkm. Keep experimenting with those slow death rigs! A good friend of mine told me to put a bead on the leader in front of the slow death hook. I usually use yellow or red and I think it makes the presentation look beter. I also just got a couple of really small willow blades that I plan on adding to some slow death rigs to add a little flash and vibration to the presentation. Slow death rigs were the only thing I caught any walleye with on Stockton this weekend. Unfortunately, they were all short! WM
  14. Funny, I was talking to my wife about how quiet the lake was this weekend. You might try trolling slow death rigs behind bottom bouncers, that's the only thing I got bit on this weekend. Unfortunately, I only caught shorts. I didn't try the half crawler and jigs, I guess I was just too lazy to re rig. (must have been the heat) Let us know if you start finding keepers, I'll be back in a couple of weeks. WM
  15. Got to fish a little bit on Stockton this weekend. Hit the lake Saturday morning, fished from about 8:30 to 11:30. Tried crawler harnesses on bottom bouncers for the first hour. No bites, only a foul hooked carp. Switched to a Slow Death rig and started immediately catching fish. Boated seven walleye, two gills, a drum and a bass. The only problem was, the walleye were all 1/4" to 1" too short to keep. Fished the flats, caught fish (walleye) in 12-24 feet of water, although 20-24 was the most productive. Water temp 86. I think next year is gonna be a great walleye year as these fish keep growing! Gave a nice young guy and gal a tow back to Mutton whose boat broke down. If he posts on here, I'd appreciate to hear what the damages are. (Hopefully just a shift cable) Sunday morning I worked coves in 20' of water and only caught small blue gill. Moved back to the flats and caught more small bluegill. Decided to relax and swim a bit before I had to head home. Had a great, relaxing weekend at the lake. Good Lord willing, I'll be back in a couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone for their reports, it really helps me get on the fish! keep 'em coming! WM
  16. You might look into the spray on bed liners such as "Rhino Liner" that is used on pick up truck beds. I know of guys that have used that in aluminum boats, don't know how well it would work on the marine grade plywood. WM
  17. The trailer has not been towed very many miles. My father bought it from a guy he knew who used it as a residence while building a house. My dad towed ot from Omaha to one of his farms in western Iowa where he kept it in a quonset and used it as a hunting and general getaway residence. I bought it last year and towed it to Stockton where it has been in the campground. Dad towed it with a half ton Chevy, and I towed it with a 3/4 ton Dodge, both pulled it quite easily. I would think it would require at least a half ton pick up to tow it very far. The hitch also is included with the camper. WM
  18. I have a 1995 30' Nomad Camper for sale. $4995.00. It is parked in a private campground in Stockton. I don't believe the spot is rented so you may be able to have your own weekend getaway at Stockton Lake with a minimal investment. I am in Nebraska, but can make arrangements for the camper to be opened for viewing. We decided to do our part to stimulate the economy and bought a larger camper. (402) 873-4947 Don't be afraid to leave a message, I'll call you back as soon as I can. WM
  19. I don't live in, or boat in Arkansas, but it looks like you may need a permit, depending on your age. Here's a link to what I found. http://www.boat-ed.com/ar/ar_laws.htm Good Luck, WM
  20. I thought that's why God made crappie, Quillback! WM
  21. I honestly don't know anything about Arkansas' plan for walleye in Beaver. I would guess the 18" length limit is to establish a sustainable population that won't require huge stocking of fish every year or two. It probably takes a couple of years for the fish to grow from 15" to 18". That's a couple of years for fish to spawn that may have been harvested under looser regualtions. I've heard that the survival rate of naturally hatched walleye in Missouri lakes is less than 5%, so that extra couple of years may make a huge difference in the Beaver walleye population. WM
  22. Congrats on your first walleye Pred! Be careful, you might get walleye fever. If you get it, catching 35 bass will become an irritant! WM
  23. Such a sad, sad story. I'm glad he was finally found and can be laid to rest. Prayers to the family... WM
