  1. No aquarium or no pictures of it? I'm guessing the latter. Yep I still think would love to decorate more like that than just my stuff lying around where I haven't put it away. LOL JJ
  2. Welcome Dennis glad your on board.
  3. Think I am going to do a glass tailed version in green !
  4. Good question Jared, the definition states "Fly - Artificial lure constructed on a single-point hook," With nothing about more than one single point hook...My assumption would be that this statement was to limit the use of treble point hooks and not to eliminate articulated flies. However, I would also not be willing to test this theory with out further clarification, when I could just eliminate one of the points from the fly. JJ
  5. Welcome aboard Mike.
  6. Another OAF'R doing a good thing for another!!! Ain't this a great place?

  8. Great game! Good game to KU they kept after it till the end. Unlike OSU who seemed to roll over after they got down. I was siting in a room full of OSU grads all family. Cheering for OU as I have done, since the days of sitting on the ottoman in front of gramps teaching me to jeer the rest of the room. But I'll be cheering for the home team next week. HERE WE GO TIGERS !!!!! HERE WE GO !!!!!!
  9. The following post was taken from another major nation wide forum and I believe the poster Brian Greer may post here also. And it is a end all questions answer. "Ok folks, I e-mailed Mr. Mike Kruse from the Mo. Dept. of Conservation. He is the fisheries program supervisor. He also specifically deals with regulations. Here is what he e-mailed back to me: Mr. Greer: Thanks for your inquiry about use of dropper flies in the trout parks. Feel free to share this response with other anglers who may have the same question. "Dropper flies" are permitted anywhere flies are permitted. As long as each fly satisfies the definition of a fly, you may use multiple flies on the same leader. The Wildlife Code contains the following definitions of flies, lures and baits: 3 CSR 10-20.805 Definitions (23) Flies, lures and baits: (A) - Natural and scented baits - A natural fish food such as bait fish, crayfish, frogs permitted as bait, grubs, insects, larvae, worms, salmon eggs, cheese, corn and other food substances not containing any ingredient to stupefy, injure or kill fish. Does not include flies or artificial lures. Includes dough bait, putty or paste-type bait, any substance designed to attract fish by taste or smell and any fly, lure or bait containing or used with such substances. ( Soft plastic bait (unscented) - Synthetic eggs, synthetic worms, synthetic grubs and soft plastic bait. © Artificial Lure - A lure constructed of any material excluding soft plastic bait and natural and scented baits as defined in (A) or ( above. (D) Fly - Artificial lure constructed on a single-point hook, using any material except soft plastic bait and natural and scented bait as defined in (A) or ( above, that is tied, glued or otherwise permanently attached. Furthermore, the Wildlife Code in 3 CSR 10-6.410 has additional information on general fishing methods. Each angler may use up to 33 hooks at one time, so fly fishers can legally use several dropper flies on one leader. While there is no minimum or maximum separation distance required between flies on the leader, anglers fishing in "flies only" areas need to keep enough distance between flies so that the "single-point hook" provision in the fly definition is maintained. One additional item that fly anglers need to keep in mind when fishing dropper flies is that game fish may not be snagged. Foul-hooking is more common when dropper flies are used and any trout not hooked in the mouth must be released immediately. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Mike So there you have it.....from the source." While the warden who received my dropper my not have been a good enough answer as far as legality for you. Hopefully this forwarded note from the "MAN" helps confirm it. JJ
  10. I have the Sony 7.2meg cyber. and its a great camera with awesome macro shots and seemingly infinite adjustments for a point and shoot, but I do wish I would have thought more about a WP before I bought mine. I currently have a waterproof bag on my "to buy" list just hope that they hold up well ie. are fairly scratch resident. Figure for the price of a specialized camera WP case I would just purchase the other camera.
  11. Thanks for the report Bob. Sounds like a great day. I think that a couple of fellas from the forum my have made it down there also. Now I am wishing that I would have made it also.
  12. Great pix as usual ! My fly for the swap was a midge variant that I have had luck with. The original has a peacock abdomen and a gold wire rib.
  13. Thanks for the input from everyone there are some real gems in there to say the least. The first time I actually saw a demonstration on fishing a set/team of wets was on a FlyFishing TV's episode with guess who ? Davy you thats who!! Wish I could remember which episode that was because I am pretty sure that that I have them all recorded on VHS so finding the right one maybe a little difficult, but if I remember correctly that it was just a very general overview of the technique. And geting your DVD is in order. Thanks for the tips, hints, leads and over all general help. As well as naming some specific patterns. As always I need more hooks. So I will look at the local fly shop for the video. They have a pretty good selection there. Probably more questions to follow. Thanks JJ
  14. I think that I am sometimes in all four of those stages at once. Of course using a fly rod in all of them. I want to catch alot of big difficult fish all at once on old fly patterns, found in a older book, tied by me, on a rod built by yours truly, using tapered leader that I hand furled. Really the fish are not important as much as being able to enjoy myself in the most calming way that I have learned to. In the stream JJ
  15. Heck the last time I was night fishing at Tanny. I was using eight or ten pound, may be a foot or two of "Tourney Tough."Attached to a four foot bass tapered monofurrled leader. Sharpened, size eight ,4Xl long dressed mostly marabou streamers and buggers, in olive. I did well drifting, swinging, mending and stripping. No brake offs and very few knots/tangles as long I was fairly obstruction aware. I think at night a firm solid handset while swinging them unweighted mostly and off a sinking line was the way that I increased my catch ratio. JJ
  16. Laziness would be my guess. Thanks for the report. JJ
  17. Nope I hadn't been there. Looks like another place to haunt!! Thanks TF, Of course when I tried to register the Message i got was DIE SPAMMER!!! And if anyone would not or could not because of lack of tecnical know how that would be ME. LOL JJ
  18. I know that few people swing sets of flies anymore, but I feel that that I have got to try it out. So I have been slowly putting together a few of the beginner type patterns ie. a Leadwing and Royal Coachman so far and for being pieced together using a few pheasant wings and tails for the feather parts. They are looking pretty good . I know that I could attach a scud under a indicator and catch fish all day or swing a single soft hackle and do well but I am really interested In the historically affective traditions/patterns in FF as of late. And really do enjoy having a box of flies that are not in the fly shops or are only in the dusty drawer shoved in the back somewhere. It all started with the soft hackles and know I'm wanting to be the only fella doing this or that and making others say "Humm Whats that guy doing that I'm not." And when and If they ask. Tell em and see there eye brows furl in question as I hand them something out a my box that they can't run up to the shop and grab a few of with out watching the guy behind the counter shake his head first before pointing the to the tying supplies. Now the questions I have is to thous that are successfully using sets of wets. What are your favorite patterns? How and in what order do you rig them in? Also what kind of water do you have the most success in or prefer ? As always all opinions and recommendations are of value! Thanks, JJ
  19. I don't know why but I seem to have my best luck with Cracklebacks in size 12
  20. RCGUY I case you did not know you dont need a daily tag now only your fishing lic. with a trout stamp on it.
  21. Good job hidding my face. Trying to save the camera? or Me from Americas Most Wanted? More flies for you !!! I had a good time at the park today. Thos pictures are a rareity. To see almost knowone else fishing around us Wow a picture really Make the release/winter seson look good.I bet tomarrow will be like that all day. Should we have turned in Sheila? Also thank you both for the kind words. JJ
  22. I said the Game warden wanted to also see my drivers license to make shure it was me, or to possibly run me for warrants.(Hay you can only have a pony tail and long beard if your willing to be stereotyped on occasion.) But after I told him to check your wife for possibly fishing with cheese he decided that I would do better as a confidential informant . And left my spotless record unchecked. Had a beautiful day to fool a few fish. Caught fish about every where I tried and with most everything even if they weren't huge in size or numbers. To bad I missed the banquet. From the time that Dennis and the misses made it to the stream(soonish) seems like there were a few liquid libations to be had afterwards. On a down note those calls I was receiving??? They were from my brother and current squeeze telling me that my oldest dog. Bete a fifteen year old Brittney had passed while he was at the house to feed the dogs for me a little before four as I probably was leaving the stream. She went fast and painless and had really slowed down during the last week.I am very thankful that someone was there and I did not have to make the "decision" for her which was soon to come. She will be missed but is in a better place. With alot more birds than Missouri. JJ
  23. Would not add any thing wild caught for food. The major thing being the water or other substances that the food may introduce to your tank. It is not a river, stream or even lake. In term of its ability to absorb infections nasties come in all shapes and sizes. For a snack think about crickets from the pet store but as with feeding all aquariums only add enough so that all will be consumed in a matter of minutes. Of course on could feed alot but that also means more and greater water changes to keep water parameters in check. Hay tanks are what I do. Enjoy em JJ
  24. Just checked out the seasons end report, and Wow have they got some beautiful pictures in there!!! I hate posting just links but there not my photos. So go here and check the color out. http://www.missouritrout.com/weavers/report.html
