  1. I know its different than fishing with one, but my local fly shop has a casting yard and wants customers to try out the rods at least to get there feel. I dont have any truly high priced rods but every time I get the chance to try out a "fancy" rod I take it. JJ
  2. When I was in my teens we used to get out on the Big River and find a nice gravel bar or beach light up a big bonfire set a few rods out for cats and occasionally the light of the fire, phases of the moon, really I haven't the faintest idea but there would be a large gathering of small bait fish and some large gar that couldn't resist some frayed anchor rope skated across the service. To remove them I just beached em gently used a paddle pry to open that toothy mouth a lil kept in the boat and pliers to pull the rope loose. JJ
  3. Centerpunch, Wonder if they saw all of those pics you fellas were posting and decided that the fish need a handicap. Maybe we should forward a few threads to the people at Roaring River to give those fish a chance also.
  4. Well Thats the only time I've seen someone come out and flame another user very inconsiderate and not at all in the spirit of what is a informative and "humorous" forum. Pollock I thought it was funny and if you wanna joke in your thread more power to Ya JJ

I imagine thats were I'm gonna be going to warm up and pile down a little of there buffet. Probubly gonna have a shore lunch back at camp in the after noon also. If we meet up Ill buy the coffee
  6. this post seem to be under the wrong heading
  7. 100% agree Phil about the venting and the rest of your post as well. However, I've been in other forums that had a soap box or Rant, Topic/catagory . To allow members to discuss or vent those things that all fisherman find see or have disdain for and allow Mods to move questionable posts that fit too. Maybe OAF needs one with a clear message that distasteful posts will be deleted. Not that our members seem to have a problem with language or anything. "even tho Mrsducky seems to have some strange thoughts lately. " If this is the wrong place for my post/suggestion feel free to move edit or delete this as in all or any of my posts. Caring OAF bumper sticker owner, JJ
  8. David - The other new guy quick on to the taxidermy fly tying materials connection John - If ya don't mind I may try and pull a little info out of ya on hide/skin finishing for tying purposes btw I have allways wondered how much for one of these mounts http://joe-ks.com/archives_jun2004/RedneckDoorbell.jpg JJ
  9. Burrrrn! MrsDucky 01 Terry 00
  10. Interesting idea! Is this lady dog gonna work(hunt or something)? Could be really good at lots of things, as well as gives a hyper/"birdy" dog a lil positive direction;) Any character traits? and of course Im gonna ask to see a picture. JJ
  11. A Big HOWDY right back at ya and welcome to OAF were the info is good and the people are even better. Ill second wanting to see some pics of your work. Maybe a replica of the fish that gotta way would be a good idea for my wall
  12. Anyone else on the water? And I guessing that these are the same wonderful P&Pearl that ya tied up for the swap?
  13. <~~~~will gladly accept the position of a full time ghille (preferably for the new Missouri 3/4 of a billionaire)
  14. Well I didn't ask for it, don't know where it came from but apparently its gonna be mine so anyone know about, or a sight, a video, maybe a good possibly book, with directions to cleaning/preparing/skinning birds for whole storage. I'm assuming some kinda borax method but really don't have a good idea of whats involved. I have of course cut plenty of upland birds up in the past for the table, and have used them rather well so far but the idea of a whole pheasant or duck "pelt" if that is the right word for it... seems appealing... I don't think that this makes me any more strange than I really my be so. Sorry if your all PETA about such things. So flame If you must but warning, I'm one hungry carnivore so your posts will be read then promptly disregarded.. Thanks in advance, JJ
  15. Welcome to O.A.F. there are alot of great friendly, knowledge sharing posters here as well a lot of great humor.
  16. Pigs I'm seeing some very fat Pigs .....Nice fish guys you think those are recent retirees from the hatchery?
  17. Going on sixteen years that I havent missed an opening day at Bennett all the above info is pretty good alot of times I just extend my stay and fish the up commin weekend with my brother and father as is our tradition. Even tho I the last couple of years they have seemed less dedicated to tradition than I have. The good thing about doing this is it seems that opening day traditionalists go home and leave myself and the few others that actually stay a relatively empty park till the weekend...
  18. Mr. Ducky asked = "was advised that you need to be careful with the 2mm foam, that it can trap the moisture and let the hooks rust. Any problems with that?" I'm useing a open cell foam that will not trap moisture like a closed cell will however, If I dunk a box I will pull out everything a dry it out that night or at least after that trip. I have found that the silla packs that I get in shoe boxes etc. do a nice job after such things happen. Kickinbass, I've just received twenty from Shawncat but those will be in production very quickly. So yes ill always have a use for more. Thanks, JJ
  19. Prince's tied and going out this afternoon ...there all right but size got moved down to #14

  22. O wow wheres the dancing in your desk chair smiliey.. Shawncat is definitely getin a personalized fly box maybe his boss also if he would like one THANK YOU JJ
  23. Ok I fall in the severely allergic portion of this and unfortunately Iv been required to work around the stuf(<~would prefer to use another four letter word) and I no for my self that the water additives don't work much if at all and clothes do if your careful as does a quick shower if available, but if all has failed and you have what appears to be a huge welting rash from direct exposure ie. infested tree removal arrg or stream cleaning just to name afew of my worst exposers (I wont name the one as a kid that are still em-"bare-butt"-ing stories that my mother loves to tell at all public camping outings.) Is that for some reason the If i can go swimming in a chlorinated pool during the rashes worst that it seem to help dry them out much faster than if not able to. The bleach bath is going to be given a try the next time i have a major one. Good thread even better if it hadn't made me so itchy. JJ
  24. Will also vouch that the one size doesn't fit all. Coach used to call me "bucket head" .......
  25. Went to fish at Sueson once a while back and had the sneaking suspicion that that might be the case so brought a old water ski rope and a a broken cinder block came in pretty handy even tho Ive done it several times since with little luck actually catching fish...but it's not catching its fishing
