  2. http://www.wildernessoutfitters.com/index....2&Itemid=39 This is a trip I have takein a half dozen times and could recommend to anyone who likes to get away. The camp is surrounded by beautiful scenery as well as awsome fishing. Landed my very first pike on a fly casting to the lilly pads near there dock JJ
  3. Well after a few years of creating many of my own designs mostly experimental or buy mistake, and reading a few other other recent posts. I was wondering if anyone here would like to shed a lil more light on the subject. In the way of how to or there ventures into the possibility of legaly being the offical daddy of your own pattern ?
  4. Good question i am assuming so since R.river and Bennett are both open friday thru Monday JJ
  5. "HOW are we keeping al Qaeda tied up in Iraq?" "HOW are we keeping al Qaeda tied up in Iraq?" Im pretty shure its called a dirt nap them, there leaders, and hopefully any other persons lookin to join up with them.

  7. Well all of my afore mentioned flies had alot of success at the park yesturday as it turns out if ya catch enough fish you can loose count before breakfast...LOL... Had a new soft hackle pattern in my box. It is size 12 wet fly hook olive or brown thin thread body, pecockhearl thorax kinda keeps the hackel spread out. The hackel is made of a small feather from a pheasants wing gave one to a neightboring flinger and he hooked up on his first cast JJ
  8. I use cracklebacks, grf.nats, and presently have been into parachute patterns mostly hares ears in natural and olive, as far as nymphs brassies with and with out beadheads seem to work well. Dont forget your soft hackel supply also.... JJ
  9. "It's not really a bassfishin, head-rippin all out assault but more like a limp-wristed, panty-waisted flick of the rod tip." LOLLOLOL, ROTFLMAO Snagged that was soo funny Good post, JJ
  10. Wow nice find, was just lookin at ebay and didnt see that one...thanks for the Heads up
  11. Shure sorry I missed this thread...Seems like a great idea anyone wanna try again..Im in the St. Louis area and really like to fish the park at the start of the week (doggin the masses) also have a tendency to go down the tany if the fishin is hot there at the same time..If anyone wants to go before the season ends speak up think I maybe goin either way. The vise has been getin a work out but its never enough till ya getem wet... JJ
  12. Snagged I have really enjoyed your posts on this topic. Just wondering are your choices of patterns the same in the river as they are in the park. I must admit I havent read the "Get Togethers" threads yet but, Im also in the Metro area and as you stated I also could allways use some more local fishin buddies splitten gas and such always seems to make a few more trips possible
  13. Great thread think Dano is the mano, and the Mis knows his. Keep it up I'll give it a try next time..
  14. I have been tying with my el cheep o vise for several years, and finally bought a rotary vise. Now I am interested in hearing thos thing that you wish some one would have told you when you got yours. Any adivise could be help- full for me and maybe some other new to rotary tyers... Thanks in advance JJ
  15. This is something that is great for a one bowl(cup)clean up meal. 2 small trout boned olive oil cracked black pepper and cayenne pepper salt some herbs rosemary thyme whatever else Soak two split logs for at least an hour in water. Build your fire near something to reflect the heat towards the fish ie.a rock pile, tall side of camp grill. I have made a reflector out of heavy foil. Works well for wind screen also. Let coals burn to hot about a third to half white. Then pile them by your reflector. Place fish on boards, skin down. Drive nails is to hold them down. Oil and season . Cover board ends with foil to keep clean. Lean logs fish tail down on end in front of fire. Rotate to cook evenly after about 10min. Done when flakes in thickest part takes about 20min total. Serve on the log . Its not a new recipie it was been done on the barbeque with ceder planks. I like to throw the "plates" in the fire and tell some fish stories over a couple of iced kentucky "deserts." More on thos some other time.
  16. John Deer also has small olive marabou tail named after the tractor if that gives hint as to the color green/yellow eye. I've have had so much luck with this mini jig. I framed one in 2oo2 with a picture of a four pounder it caught.
  17. Those are all good and some great patterns. In the mornings there will be lots of things in the water all at once including spinners, vibrax, and lots of blk/yel marabou jigs. If think like I do,then the spinning gear is relegated to just backup, so early you need to upsize and add flash, be it color or crystal thread. I have had luck making a sz6 or 8 leech weighted with marabou and crystal flash. Then when all the people start to give enough room for a drift, I like to cast a chartruse and red egg pattern(glowball) under an indicator. Then I go into the traditonal patterns later in the afternoon and evening.
  18. Thanks for the support of my idea, but I havent had any takes, Tho so thought I might extend the trip to include a couple days at Tanneycomo, maybe some fishin in the Jamse river also. A buddy that I've known forever lives on Tablerock and is meeting me a Bennett opening morning, might just go back to his place and do some dummin through the weekend....livin up to the name JJ
  19. I perfer amber polerized glasses. They seem to be better even in low-light conditions.
  20. i'm a planted tropical and marine reef service professional in the St. louis area there are many cons to keeping a native species aquarium but it can be done if you are willing to give a completely wild strain of fish the required ammount of maitence for water quality reasons that it would take to get them to behave naturally. iv seen bass crappie sunfish. kept by amature aquarists before but to the detriment of the fish. bass are a very messy fish for the aquirium. and do not have the many years of breeding like similar fish allready avalible to the hobby ie an oscar people are now going try and comare the fisheries breeding programs and this would be a huge mistake 10s of thousands of gallons compared to about 35 also pofessionals compaired to however well meaning hobyists. Even the huge aquariums that are used a Bass Pro, Conservation Dept mobile learning center were built by and monitered by paid professional biologists. people are going to do what they are going to do but as a person who belives in a cradle to grave principal to all petkeeping meanig if you cant to the best of your knowlege make an animal live longer and better in captivity than it could in the wild it has no bussiness being a pet
  21. please see my post under bennett spring. let me know what u think even if it's not convient for you. thanks
  22. gas prices have turned a 40 doller trip into a 80 dollar trip. So I was thinkin see if i can find a couple of fishermen/women that might want to split thos expenses. I think if this could happen we would need to meet up prior to the trip cus I'm not putting a complete stranger or strangers in my ride as I think most reasonable people will understand. I plan on driving/riding down regardless, havent missed one in fifteen years. If the fishing good like to stay late. if the weather is bad sometimes the fishing is even better. ................now down to the basics I'm in High Ridge, MO 15min from downtown St. Louis My ride is a clean 95 ford coversion van comfy+ contact me here or at jjoystl@yahoo.com ps this is not a type of post that is seen very often so i would like to have some feed back positive or negitive. This is hopefully a way to meet a few good troutbums and save us all some cash
