  1. Wrote a short for The Fisherman's Journal...came out today. I figured I'd post the link here for anyone that doesn't have social media. It's mostly a kayak fishing magazine...but it covers fresh, salt and fly fishing. My story is on page 57 if you feel like reading. http://www.thefishermansjournal.com/the-fishermans-journal-magazine-volume-three-issue-x/
  2. 3 days chasing grass carp, followed by 3 days chasing trout, followed w/ 2 more days of grass carp. Just a few pictures of incredible fishing...more on my FB page https://www.facebook.com/looknfishy http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/

  8. Clearly haven't learned a thing about photography....this was from my trip to the driftless 2 weeks ago. It's a nice brook trout...but you'll have to take my word for it.
  9. What I chase when I can't get to the trout. (the updated forum makes posting pics way easier...great job on that) http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/looknfishy?ref=hl
  10. I take my kayak on the LRR all the time and fly fish from it. The Cow shoals to Swing bridge is a great float, but like hoglaw mentioned you have to negotiate the steps. The bridge to Lobo or Libby if you want to carry your kayak up the stairs is good also. My recommendation would be to bring the kayak and float something....the river is awesome to float. You can use the SB access and paddle as far up as you like. With no generation it's no problem. You could also do the same from dripping springs and wade the hourseshoe or paddle to rainbow island or mossy...I've done that also. With 0 generation you can paddle from any access up and back. Right now they are generating in the afternoons for ~3 hours...so you'll likely never see high water. I have posted several trip reports with pictures on my blog...last from 9/2...but there are many more if you feel like searching. http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2015/09/find-your-time.html I like to drag my yak up the dry side of the shoe and wade or float the other side....you can do that as many times as you feel like dragging back up...30 yds or so.
  11. Grass carp in my local water
  12. They are a blast to stalk and catch. Like hunting with a fly rod. Got some place in mind or questions? Just put some flys that have been working for me on my FB page. But if you have some specific questions let me know. I'll try to help.
  13. Exceptional! Best thing I have read in a while. Thx for sharing.
  14. Fun to catch but ugly! http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/looknfishy?ref=hl https://instagram.com/looknfishy/

  16. Glad to hear you're CNRing the SMB. Camping at snow and other AGFC spots on CC is 1 day, I believe, I only camp on the river. Not sure anyone would say anything but if you decide to use Snow, and you're alone, you'll be leaving all your gear to fend for its self while you float. I prefer to stay on the river and pack everything in my kayak. The Wilderness Section on the Buffalo is awesome...but as mentioned the White is really flowing so you'd end up in it at the end of your float. Buffalo city is actually up river from the Buffalo...so you'd be paddling against the current. I always go to Shipps Ferry, about 4 miles down the White on the left side. Any float on the Buffalo in Oct will be worth driving from TX...should have awesome fall foliage. Sherwood Forest also has camping, it's south of Yellville on hwy 14. I have camped here 1 time, 2 years ago, with family. Nice small camp, only a few tent sites. But the guy will run a shuttle for you, or he did 2 yrs ago. www.arksherwoodforestrvpark.com Other rivers you could float. Little Red River Kings River North Fork of the White Norfork
  17. And you said all I ever do is post fishing reports. Have no affiliation...just sharing b/c it's legit. Someone (besides me) has been thinking about flying to Denver. This is a deal, exp 7/31!! Verified Mem-Den and back $179...deal! Frontier Airlines kicks off Colorado Day sale with fares as low as $38 https://booking.flyfrontier.com/Flight/Internal http://kdvr.com/2015/07/30/frontier-airlines-kicks-off-colorado-day-sale-with-fares-as-low-as-38/
  18. Ha, ha...I'm just trying to keep up with you.
  19. Like Ham said, I do this trip several times/year. It's a blast and absolutely a DIY trip...that's how I got started (just read a bunch and drove down). If you have specific questions, PM me here or on my blog and I'll help however I can. My suggestions: GI if you're going to fish from a kayak...lot more free access, hwy park and launch. Most of the access near Venice is from Marinas ($10-15). Camping at the state park if you're on a budget but there are RV parks, hotels, and the marinas have rooms (starting around $75). Late Sept - Oct is when I try to get down. But Nov and Dec are the prime months...fish are feeding heavily, the weather is much more kayak friendly (lower temperatures and less likely to have any severe weather). Try to pick a weekend when the Saints/LSU are playing, you'll be the only one fishing! The biggest difference between Sept and Nov/Dec is the number of fish you might catch. Sept trips I average 15-20/day. Nov/Dec, closer to 40-50. The bull reds start moving thru the pass in Aug, coinciding with the ride the bull kayak tournament, http://www.calmwatercharters.net/#!ride-the-bull/c2474,hosted by Bridgeside Marine. Aug-Sept would give you a good chance at the biggest reds in the area and a bunch of slot reds in the marsh. Hope some of this helps Drew
  20. I'm here and you're not.. For those that love reds. More pics on my blog...not much reading (good thing huh)!
  21. Had a great time on the Norfork and LRR. Caught a nice bow on the fork and watched a huge brown ghost out. http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2015/06/ar-tailwaters-part-4.html
  22. I had plans for it and I agree it would have been fun unfortunately my 6 day trip got cut down to 3...next year it's on! Part 2 posted
  23. I really like the encounter. I did a review on my blog. If you're looking for a good starter set up it'll work. It's not perfect, a little heavy for all day use, kind of stiff, but I've used it for reds, trout, and bass...it's an outfit that fits many needs. Ham, I used my 9'5wt most of the time. Needed the height to keep line out of the brush most of the time. I had a 3wt but it didn't see much use. 5wt worked it most situations.
  24. Have fly rod will travel. 2500 miles of fishing through 3 states sure was fun. Details. Part 2: http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2015/06/rt-2015-truly-wild.html?m=0 Part 1: http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2015/06/road-trip-2015.html
