  1. Got the chance to get my hands on the new Angler Pro from Bending Branches and test it for a month. They'll make the announcement during icast this week but here's a peek at the new improved angler pro....and they're dropping the price. Improved and cheaper...doesn't happen often. https://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2017/07/review-new-bending-branches-angler-pro.html
  2. Also, the carp fishing in the canals is great. If I only had a few hours I'd probably do it. Uptown Angler in NO is the place to head for all the info.
  3. Sorry just seeing this. Absolutely pack a rod a 6 will work on slots in the marsh...but I'd keep them. More than likely the stress and the water temp won't allow catch and release. If you can borrow an 8 you'll be great! My suggestion would be to head over to PAC kayak rentals and rent a kayak for the day. This video was filmed from there and we caught fish in sight of the launch. Plus Eddie who runs the place will do his best to help you. Grand Isle is great if you already own a kayak b/c of the road side access but if not it's almost the same drive and the boats aren't waiting for you. You can fish the beach or off the hwy...but that's it w/o hiring a guide. Another option if you decide to go down hwy 23 is kayak venice...http://www.kayakvenicela.com/ .
  4. Thanks everyone. It was a fun trip! Wish I had more than just a week to explore. There is so much water to paddle.
  5. We went by their last year also. It's not my boat. It belongs to my buddy, he just lets me go when he needs an oarsman, lol. I can ask for you and let you know what he says.
  6. Warning, no Mukie were hurt in the making of this video. Just got home from a week in Wisconsin. Super cool fishery. Took my kayak and chased muskie every morning but loaded it at lunch and changed water for pike and smallies. Blog post and video attached. http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2017/06/road-trip-wisconsin-muskie-on-fly-with.html
  7. Pretty much what you said. Hog Island, http://hogislandboatworks.com/.
  8. The weather forecast and the high flows had us a little uneasy about driving up last weekend but it all worked out and we caught fish every day. It turned out to be a great trip. Full report on my blog: http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2017/05/white-river-streamer-arm.html
  9. Went in March 2016 and we had fun catching fish. It's not the best time for bones and permit but we did see a few. I was with a group and most everyone just wanted to catch anything...so we spent most of the time targeting sharks and cuda....but it was a killer time doing it from a kayak. If you're looking for an alternative I know a kayak fishing guide down there. Randy is a great guy and guide. He knows the area really well. Started in the eco tour business before moving into the guide stuff. https://www.lowerkeyskayakfishing.com/
  10. Man that wind was brutal. On the last day we passed a guide with a client in a raft and he was going up river rather than down. The only good thing about it was, it kept the bugs away at night and the temperature down.
  11. Thx John, the carp is my favorite also. That was the exact feeling I had. Sight fishing carp in water that resembled the Caribbean...I never forget it! The Devils is outside Del Rio, Tx. Flows in to Amistad.
  12. Here's the video from the trip. The video doesn't do it justice. Such a cool place.
  13. I wish I had gone sooner. It's a cool river.
  14. This trip has been a long time in the making. It lived up to every expectation. A great adventure. http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2017/04/the-devils-river.html
  15. Last November I had the opportunity to travel to SELA with Jackson Kayak. I made a short edit but they did a much better job with this piece. It's more of a destination video that does a great job showing why that place is so special.
  16. Here's the post I wrote for the Orvis blog: http://www.orvis.com/news/fly-fishing/pro-tips-catch-grass-carp-fly/
  17. As you'd expect the ratios are terrible (especially if you cast at every grasser you see) but it's the hunt that I like most. However there are times when I expect to get an eat...assuming I did everything right and those ratios are pretty good. For reference, If I see a grass carp tailing and I can get close enough to get a fly near it. I feel like that's a 50/50 on getting a look...maybe only 10% on an eat. The flies I use range from small dry's to small leechs. I'm working with Orvis on an article about this right now. I'll share the link here when they share it.
  18. Sometimes it's nice to just stay home and fish the local water. My local water includes grass carp that fight really hard.
  19. Awesome. Fly fishing out of mine has been a blast and I'm sure you're customers will appreciate the stability and comfort.
  20. It's grand Isle state park. They have improved and primitive tent sites located on the beach. Here's a link. http://crt.louisiana.gov/louisiana-state-parks/parks/grand-isle-state-park/index
  21. Short video from my latest trip to Southeast Louisiana. Redfish are so much fun. If you ever get the chance...GO!
  22. Had a few days earlier in the week free to fish. The weather in SELA was good enough, so I gave it a go. Here's a quick picture infused post. http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2017/03/gotta-love-marsh.html
  23. Not going to start a new thread but here's my post on the trip. http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2017/03/cold-flows-and-wild-rainbows-with-video.html
  24. Thanks, it's the new jackson kayak mayfly.
