  1. Fishing (whitebass) was good for me today (4/28) but combat fishing, not so much. Topwater is starting to heat up as I got into some good action along with everyone else. While everyone was using your average spooks, I went outside the box and used something else and found success unless you happen to be in the right spot or had the preferred colored spook. Caught a few whites on a jerkbait but couldn't put down the topwater lure once it started biting. If it wasn't so windy today, it would have been a perfect day but managed what I could. Gave up early around 7pm since it was too windy and "fishermen" started to crowd around me. Everyone was lined up on the east side from the gate to the end of the rocks, just wiggle yourself in and have at it.
  2. SOLD...Thanks.
  3. As the title states, willing to part ways with a fj 2500. It was bought last year and has a few scuff marks so I would rate the cosmetic of it as 8/10. It has x-ship which makes it smooth and would rate the reel as 10/10 for functionality. I will includes all the box and paper with this reel. Will sell for $85. Paypal would be preferred method of payment choice.
  4. The luck e strike are as close as you'll get when it comes to 110 but might as well get one of each (110 and strike) and make your own comparison. With the overwhelming color choices from each brand, I would say pro blue is a popular color choice. The split rings on the luck e strike are hit or miss.
  5. Frogs are my favorite for this pond. This pond is always a hit or miss with the wind, wish it had more tree cover like the other ponds in the area.
  6. Fished yesterday (5/20), topwater was decent, caught about a dozen or so using various topwater lures. The action would have been better if it hadn't been for the storm, it shut everything down once it passed through. Tried again afterwards but no dice so I went home. If you can claim a rock on the east side by the fence depending on the water level, you are probably primed to get into some action. Lots of shad jumping but nothing really chasing them down. Lots of carps too, they were swimming on the surface in groups. It's probably best to get into some action this week before the crowds start to show up for memorial day weekend.
  7. Was there today too, no topwater action whatsoever. Spoonies, gars, and carps are jumping but no signs of whites/wipers busting shad. Still to early to tell but my guess would be early/mid may before the the real action begins.
  8. With the recent reports on here, I just had to get out today on my day off to see what all this fuss what about. Started off around 12ish on west side, threw everything but the sink and zip. Headed to east side and same results. Was about to give up when the alarm when off, so I knew I had to go back the west side. Fished near that waterfall area. After about 15 or so minutes, finally hooked up with a whitebass. Females where full of eggs but not quite ready to drop yet. Caught a total of 3 and lost 1. Sliders at a dead roll were the ticket. Quite a few heads today but most were concentrated near the stairs on the west side or near the fence on the east side. Anyone have any luck with jerkbaits since they are "suppost" to shine during the colder months? Threw them for most of the day but came up black and white.
  9. I know this pond you are talking about. A buddy of mine does good on jigs and swimbaits this time of the year. I usually only go to this pond later in the year to get my "frogging" on, since topwater is my favorite type of fishing.
  10. Disgusting. Good thing they got caught otherwise they would have done it again the following weekend.
  11. I These day, it's all about quality over quanity for me so I prefer the 4in but I think the jr will be perfect for your situation since you are probably using a lighter setup when it comes to stream fishing. You won't lose any action between the full size and the jr. but the 4in. creates a wider wake that I prefer when fishing topwater. I usually let the fishes tell me what they what when working this lure but most days I just slowly roll it in. Colors: I like the chartruese but I believe the jr. doesn't come in that color unless you import it in. Overall, I have an aresenal of DEPS lure and have been very satisfied when everyone of them, on top of that, they hold their value if you every decide that this lure isn't for you.
  12. If you are looking for a monster caller, look no farther: DEPS buzzjet. It may be a $25 lure but this lure drives bass crazy. I have a few of these and fish just flat out smash them. You won't find these at your local walmart, basspro, or cabelas but they can be found at many online fishing sites (tacklewarehouse).
  13. There are too many colors to choose from and not enough time to fish them all. Pro blue seems to be the more popular color everwhere I read. Although the RC STX and 110 are very similar visually, there are a few differences that I have noticed on both. The 110 suspends with it's nose downward while the stx is all over the place. This is what sets the 110 apart from other jerkbaits, the way it suspends. The stx split ring are horrible, you will lose fish if you don't change them out. If you choose to get some stx, make sure the bb can move freely, had one that would stick to the back of the lure when tilted.
  14. This conservation area is often overlooked but there are some gem pits and ponds, you just have to put the time into it to find out which ones are productive.
  15. Fished at the dam on 9/10 and all I caught were bass (4). 2-3 pounders full of shad on various topwater lures. Bite is really slow unless we get more water release. I will give it one last go next month and call it quits up there for the year unless I hear some good reports.
  16. Academy in Joplin had those rapalas on sale too probably still do, bought a few to try. They also had yo zuri rattlin vibes and sashimi rattl'n vibes for $3 or so. Couldn't believe my eyes so I grabbed most of them. They are probably gone now since I last went there two weeks ago.
  17. Fished yesterday (5/21) from about 1ish-8pm at the spillway. A bad day by my standards. Spent most of that time trying to find the topwater action but never found it. Fished both sides with not much action to show for it. From what I saw east side was good for crappie, as always. Don't know if the water level had to do anything with it but it was slow, slow, slow. Was mainly a gar and carp show when I saw signs of shads jumping. I hope memorial day weekend with bring better luck.
  18. I think I might know that pond/lake you are talking about. Have they cut the grass to the pond/lake? Hate the ticks out there. Nothing gets me more riled up then frogging the those lilly pads.
  19. Just spent the afternoon up there today (4/16). Big hybrids are on the prowl. Almost every stringer had big fishes on them. Caught one (4-5lbs est.) and lost two more big ones due to bad hookups. Get up there while you can. Bite was best in late afternoon but sundown topwater didn't happen like I hoped. Had times where I had fish on cast after cast, a few times just as the lure hit the water. Was fishing the east side. Everything seemed to work but I was using something outside the box from everyone.
  20. Braid is just braid to me so I usually go with PP. I mainly use PP on spinning setup since it is more forgiving than on a baitcaster but will give PP on baitcaster a try this year since I'm getting a better feel for my baitcaster setup. The only time I use PP is when the situation calls for it: Thick weeds and lilly pads, everything else calls for mono: big game.
  21. Last time I was there (about two weeks ago) not much action but few people catching fishes but if you don't mind bass fishing, the ponds have some nice largemouth roaming around since everyone seems to be concentrating on the big lake.
  22. Went yesterday (Mon 3/12). Whites and crappies are starting to pick up but walleyes are still no where to be found. As long as the weather holds, fishing should be picking up any day now.
  23. They are the same, the only difference as far as I know is that the C4 has an extra bearings compared to the C3, so (C4=4 bearings, C3=3 bearings).
  24. With all the hype going on with this "rig", might just pick one up and cast it into boils and see what happens.
  25. With the drought that occurred in the summer, a lot of spots that I usually hunt are bone dry. May just call this season a bust and save up money for new fishing gear for next year.
