I haven't seen them at Barclay lately but about two years ago, I saw a group of 6 or 8 of them chattering around there.

I wan't going to spill the beans, but since Wayne brought it up, I have had a blast lately around Barclay. I hope all the "sportsmen" that fish around there are aware of, and follow the rules regarding taking browns. Two weeks ago, I landed a 20" brown swinging a soft hackle. He was big and fat and one hell of a fight. I was hoping he was a resident from a previous stocking, but couldn't say for sure. Turned him loose to fight again.

I'm confused. I'm reading the chart at Montauk and it's showing in the low 90's.

I just watched Brian's video on the Double Deceiver, man he's fast! (watch the video and you'll get it). Isn't that big fly on top of the thread something like a double deceiver?

Thanks for the info. If you're talking about Brian Wise, I had the pleasure of fishing with him last year and was aware of his videos. I just haven't been that interested in these big streamers until recently. I'll check him out. PS- Thanks for showing me I'm not the only person whose tying table looks like a disaster area

Educated me please. What are these beautiful monsters called? I'm a nympher but as my eyes contiue to fail, these big streamers look more inviting to tie.

There's a guide on this river system who brags he has a fly that "seems to fall so naturally....like a piece of chummed corn"!! I fell out of my chair laughing when I read that on his site. Apparently there's so much chummed corn on this river that he considers it "natural". At least it's a fly. Different strokes I guess.

That's kind of what I was thinking, so the comments about the can of corn and chumming are irrelevant. He could have been chumming legally, and caught it on corn legally. Not my way of fishing, but I was just curious about the "chumming" comments above.

"I see a can of corn in the boat. Chumming is illegal." I'm not familiar with the White. Is that a catch and release area where he caught the fish?

Went to Barclay 7:00 am yesterday to see a flood. The water was almost up to the parking lot, and a blue heron was eating a beautiful 10" brown. I watch the gauge at Windyville just up from Bennett and it had jumped to almost 20ft a few days ago.

I like both those spots. When you learn how to time (avoid) the crowds, you can have an enjoyable time. I'll take 4 in the river over 10 in the park anyday.

Anybody float above Bennett lately? We're planning a lazy float with about 12 family members mid week in late July. I've floated from Bennett to Barclay several times and am familiar with that part but I've never been above Bennettt. The outfitter we're looking at goes up to Montgomery Eddie and puts you in for a 5.5 mile float back to Bennett. I'm not concerned much about fishing, but what's the water and the view like up there? Anyone know? I watch the gauge up at Windyville and it looks like the river is running pretty good lately. We're hoping by going on a Wednesday, and floating above, the crowd, and the decedant depravity may not be bad. Any experience or input appriciated. Thanks

Fishing report, serioulsy.... in a daily stocked park?!?-- Just having fun, I've been going there since I was 10 years old and still enjoy it occaionally. Looking forward to taking my 8 year old Godson down next weekend for kids fishing day. I know it's a state park, I know it's a hatchery park, I know it's often crowded, but it still has a spot in my heart. We had an old 1959 Shasta camper at Weaver's since 1978 and just recently had to let it go, replacing it with a 1973 Holiday Rambler up next to Ollies. I've mostly moved on to other creeks and rivers, but it all started for me at Bennett. Regarding the hatches, the funniest thing I saw down there was the "Pellet Hatch". On a very rainy spring morning a few years ago, a buddy and I were at the very end of zone II and there was no one else in the stream. The water outside the hatchery literally started boiling. Apparently a huge wash of food pellets came through the hatchery outlet into the stream and it was on. This large, boiling patch of water moved slowly downstream and faded about 10 yards above us. Of course, being the observant,hi-tech, scientific fly fishermen we are, "we matched the hatch" with the little brown pellet fly and had a blast. (Go ahead-crucify me) There's a hatch you won't find on the Yellowstone!

Is that Eagles Park campground you're talking about? That's a bummer, I liked that place. Wish I had the money, what a great location.

I recommed sticking to Zone 1 with bright colored power bait.

Nice pics. My timing bites! I was there last Sunday and only got in about 4hours fishing in the thunderstorm. It continued to rain for about 12 hours and the river had risen almost three feet by the time I woke up Monday AM. I was wondering about the horses too, I noticed several piles of droppings in the campground at Montauk.

My advice is stay away. Too dangerous. Leave it for me next week .

Beautiful slab of meat. What a beast. The similarity to BMAN's fish is pretty strong. Cool to think it could be the same relased fish, still going strong.
