Had a great tournament yesterday. It was good meeting Eyeman and Kwall after the tournament. Did you talk Lee into having a ride along tournament?
Report - We started the tournament morning fishing the large point by Masters Island. Trolled leadcore in 20' of water. Caught about 20-25 walleyes - only three keepers the largest being 16 inches (it was caught in 15' of water). We found prefishing that the more agressive cranks like flicker shads and reef runners weren't working nearly as well. Nearly every morning fish came of the Cabelas knock off of a shad rap in the bright green color. We also caught two channel cats, about 8-10 crappie (all large and the biggest being aroun 14"), whites, and largemouth. We actually caught a large shad on one of the crankbaits and didn't know it until one of the shorty trolling rods doubled over. We got the fish about fifty feet from the boat when the fish released the shad we had caught. I am guessing we had a very large flat head on briefly. With about two hours to go left in the tournament we went over and fished a spot on the flats. We filled out our tournament limit there with the largest being about a 19" walleye. We caught about 10 more walleye on the flats. Eighteen feet of water with a slow death rig with a half of a crawler. We bottom bounced at about .8 mph - a little faster than I normally go, but it seemed to work.
The tournament winners - Dale and Terry - weighed in four fish, but they had a large kicker fish (about four pounds). I believe they sat on a specific spot on the flats the whole day and jigged night crawlers. They are a very good team and they have won the last three tournaments on Stockton.
Probably done going to Stockton until the winter fishing kicks in.
