I will use the bow for deer. On second thought, a .22 wouldn't be a good idea, especially near water or homes. I have a CO2 pellet gun that would be a better option for rabbits or squirrels. Maybe I'll call the Corps just to check on any special regs?

Was out in the boat fishing last week, and watched a guy shoot a deer with a bow. I saw the deer run after he was hit, and saw the guy tracking it, but not sure if he ever found him? After all of these years, I guess I didn't realize that it is legal to hunt on Corps land. *(in season, of course) Our house is on the Lake, butting up to Corps land, and I never even thought about it, and never have seen anyone hunting out behind our place. I sit out on the back deck and watch deer, squirrels, rabbits, fox and coyotes pass by all the time. With as bad as the fishing has been lately, I may have to break out the bow and the .22?

Nasty-looking, though! I caught a monster flathead last Summer, and was going to give it to a guy on our dock, but he said he wouldn't eat those "nasty flatheads". I cleaned it and prepared it as above and brought some down for him later that night. He loved it! I know he sometimes gets on this site, so I thought I would razz him a bit.

Or try Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning mixed in with regular flour. We always cut out the "red line" on the whites, and then cube the meat into 1-1 /2" squares. Soak in milk for an hour or so in the fridge, then dip in egg and then the 'kicked-up' flour and into the hot grease. They fry up crispy and light and taste great! Works well for catfish, even those nasty flatheads. Add some home-made hush-puppies with onion bits, some big ole dill pickles and a COLD BEER! Kinda reminds me of something Grandpa Jones would cook up on Hee-Haw. Hey, Grandpa, what's for Supper? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR3kI_LHMDI

I agree with cutting off one hook off of the treble! Rare that I can't get it off of a tree limb or rock. Another trick is to drill a 1/16" or 1/8"hole at top and/or bottom of lead. This does 2 things: -looks like an eye or that spot on a shad -gives it a real different action, especially if you are yo-yo ing it back to the boat off a bluff or over trees.

After thinking about all of this, I am wondering if maybe my top plug isn't seated properly or the gasket is cracked? I've changed the oil on these things dozens of times and never had it gush out like that, which makes me thinks there is air getting in there causing it to flow out so quickly? I went and bought a new plug and will top it off per fishinwrench's suggestion, and then put in new plug. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! Never have had to replace a LU, and really don't want to find out how much fun it can be!

I assume he raised it AFTER he filled it, and the fill tube was still inserted? Otherwise, it's impossible to completely fill the cavity before it runs out the top hole. That's exactly what I did, but for some reason, that oil just shot out of the lower hole like I've never seen?
-
Thanks, fishin wrench! Great idea! The motor is a 200 HP Johnson, so I guess I won't worry about overfill. Plus, I really didn't want to stick a bread tie in my Johnson!

Changed out the oil on the lower units this weekend. No problems on the pontoon outboard. Got in the kayak and did it while it was on the lift. Easy deal. Put a trash bag around the lower unit and drained it, replaced oil unitl oil flowed from upper hole. Put in top plug, and just a trickle came out of the lower hole as I removed the tube and replaced the lower plug. On the bass boat, I decided to back it onto the lift, and change oil from the front of the slip. Everything was good until I put top plug back in, and found that I couldn't get a good angle to remove fill tube and replace lower plug. So, I trimmed motor up with fill tube still attached and as I pulled tube to replace lower plug, the oil came gushing out? So, I assume the angle had something to do with that, as I have always done it with motor trimmed perfectly vertical, and it never did more than a little trickle. Maybe lost 2 oz? Should I pull bottom plug and pump more oil in, or not worry about it?

Obviously, fishing is only one of the considerations as you mentioned. But, remember that you can drag your boat anywhere that the fishing is good, but it's kinda tough to move the house! Find a place that you like, and maybe is near the other things that are important to you. And, make sure you get a good, thorough home inspection, and a separate septic inspection if not on city sewer!

My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all my rods and reels for what I told her they cost!

Only Billfo used the word "escape". I think LUC Ranch has good intentions, but obviously it's a challenge with some of these kids.

Agree with fishinwrench! rubber cap is just protection for the switch. Try the grease! If necessary, just build up the bottom of grey trigger on the bottom with some JB Weld or magic putty to keep the trigger up above the foot pedal. Otherwise, go to Lowe's, HD or your local Hardware store and you can buy some of those soft rubber tips that are used on the end of wire shelving and glue it over top of old the rubber cap?

How many bedrooms does that thing have? My first house was $48,000, had 5 bedrooms and a 40 X 20 in-ground pool! Although, when this boat is on the Rock, it has a 43,000 acre pool!

I'm dropping my air card and want to go with a router with Wi-Fi. So far, I've found that Century has 10MB and Frontier (sudden link) has 15MB via DSL/cable. They both also have unlimited phone packages and TV, which I might do? I have DISH HD now. Have not heard good things about satellite-based internet, but would consider it? Anyone know of other good options in the area? Looking for faster connection if available. We are down Joe Bald Rd. Thanks for any help!

An article in the Stone County Gazette said it is going to be "re-purposed", meaning that they are taking ideas for what to do with the land. Hey, how about a Public Ramp, Swimming area and Picnic Area? Why do I get the feeling that the Swanson's will somehow be involved in whatever it eventually becomes?

This Spring, I was sight fishin some spawning beds and kept throwing that tube bait on top of the beds, but no bites? Never even saw a fish come near em? Turns out what I thought were spawning beds were all those white plates that Babler and the biologists were throwin in the Lake!

Just heard back from Map Guy! He said he might have a use for it down the road sometime, but if I had somebody who needed it now, go ahead and let them enjoy it. Pretty typical of the good folks who frequent this site. So, Aaron Porter, it's yours. sent you a PM to arrange pick up.
-
Never heard back from MAP GUY? Sent him a PM. Maybe he just used his one post to answer the trivia and doesn't want the graph? Depth finder is off my boat, in a box with bracket, power cable and transducer cable and ready to be used. I'll give MAP GUY until Friday to respond. If not, then AARON PORTER indicated that he would love to have it.
-
Okay, since no one got # 2. Morris Page is his real name. Interesting guy! Looks like MAP GUY is the winner! I'll PM him to see if he wants the depthfinder. If not, then I'd like to find someone who could use it. Suggestions?

It allowed several businesses (resorts, restaurants, etc) to use Branson West as their address, which implied proximity to the booming town of Branson. I remember Branson was quite upset about it! Might have even been some attempted legal action?
-
MAP GUY's first post? 1. Ray's Market is CORRECT! It was a 'convenience store' before there were convenience stores. 2. keep trying! 3. Correct! Quite a marketing move by the City Fathers.

1. The bank is on the other side of 13. The SE corner is now an office building. But, for many years, it was a popular place! 2. It's not Carl! I'll add a third, much easier question. 3. What was the the original name of the town of Branson West?

Just got a new Garmin echo as a gift and will move my Eagle 480 to the console. Currently have an older (1990's?) Eagle 7200 that works great. It has a small crack in the front plastic retainer, which I may try gluing together, but the screen is good and it is air and water tight and easy to read. Has backlight and several advanced functions that I never used. Keeping the Johnny Ray mount, but I do have the basic U-bracket that holds it. Will pull the old transducer and power cord and re-route the new one this weekend. It has the puck-type that can be mounted thru-hull or on TM. So, by Sunday sometime, I should have it available. I could sell it, I guess, but doubt it would bring much. Like the trolling motor I gave away earlier this year, I'd rather see it get used by a forum member who needs it. I'm down Joe Bald by land, near 13 bridge by water. I'll defer to the moderators to recommend a fair way to determine who gets it. Maybe a Table Rock trivia contest? 1.Who can tell me the name of the long-time business establishment that was at the SE corner of 13 and DD? 2. What is Spank's (of Spank's Gentlemen's Club Fame) real name? 3. What was the the original name of the town of Branson West?

Gotta love a guy who armor alls his boat-trailer tires! But, since I don't see any numbers behind an "AR", maybe you came right from the dealer? Was the porta-potty standard, or did you pay extra to have it mounted on the front deck? Seriously, great-looking rig! Donna looks like a proud Momma with her new baby!
