  1. I would say park at baptist and walk down. It is a pretty easy walk and lots of good water. the walk back up steam is not so easy.
  2. I would go to mt. home area so you can fish white and Norfolk. lots of wadeable water to fish.
  3. MIZ
  4. That was awesome. always entertaining videos, looking forward to watching the other four.
  5. agree with born to fish, people are taking alot of >18" fish out of the river. fished river right after they stocked it this year, there was a TON of fish from BC - past ashley creek. Still a fair amount of fish but all those fish don"t just disapear.
  6. Thanks, I will try the full turn at the back and at the head and see if that helps.
  7. I have been fishing cracklebacks alot lately and have found that swinging them in faster water or on the pick up they twist my leader up usually at the point where I tie on my tippet. Is there anything I can do when I tie them to keep them from spinning. If it helps for the discussion i tie the hackle on with the bottom facing forward ( I think that is how it is supposed to be).
  8. albright breathable $139. I have had my pair for a few years and have done alot of walking/bushwacking in them. For the price I have got alot out of them.
  9. I would like to know what you found. I think baptist to parker would be interesting to see, lots of good deep water in that stretch.
  10. I just got back from a week long trip to the mt. home area and floated the norfork three times. I caught 2 brookies just below the start of the catch and area, if you want a little more of a challenge. It is fun to catch one, they are pretty fish.
  11. Looking for a little help from people that have fished alaska. I am planning a trip for next year and looking do do it for a reasonable price, don't need all the fancy stuff just going for the fishing. I have read this board and looked at Naknek and epic angeling adventure. I really like the outpost at Epic, love the idea of getting away from everything and wade fishing smaller streams. We would like to go earlier in the year and throw streamers and dries for rainbows and grayling. I have looked on the internet at some places just figured I would check on this board to get feedback about places to check out from people that have gone. reasonable price $4000 if the right place but would like to go for less. thanks
  12. How well would a pontoon boat work on the nfotw? I have floated the local tailwaters and really enjoy using it. not that great to fish and float at the same time but could stop and get out and wade. love the look of the river and would really like to fish it.
  13. Went down last weekend and walked down past Ashley creek on friday, the walk down is gravy and with the low water the walk back is pretty easy also. there is a trail that leads from the S curve to the horseshoe but in the summer is overgrown plus the floods knocked trees down across it making it a pain to use. I did walk from baptist to parker on saturday I don't recommend that it is a long SOB. started at 7am ended at 7pm plus my friend left the keys to is truck in my truck at baptist, it made for a long wornout day, but everything worked out. We did catch alot of fish most on hopper/cicada patterns, I did try steamers but got tired of watching my brother (on point) catch fish on cicada's. P.s. stlfisher nice fish (other thread) had to be fun catching it on a hopper.
  14. I went back down saturday, got there at about 6:30 till 3:00, fished down to the backside of the horseshoe. I can,t belive you crossed there, I tryed and almost got swept down river. Got about 1/3 of the way across, water was waist high and gravel was giving way, water started to push me down steam into the deep hole. I thought I was in no mans land but managed to turn around and get back. It seemed like it would be even harder to get back across. I really wanted to fish that stretch to. only saw one person all day besides canoeist and that was early on, I was fishing (old tire hole) and somone was fishing hole above that, guy in orange hat, maybe you. fishing was really good I thought, better than last weekend, lots of agressive fish. I was able to wade in water that I couldn't last weekend so that helped. lots a fun.
  15. I did see four different people floating the river when I was down. They ranged from middle aged guys to two older couples w/dogs and a young couple, it seemed crazy to me with all the new debris down but I am not much of a canoeist.
  16. I fished saturday from about 6:30 til 2:30 below baptist, the floods shifted alot of gravel around it will be interesting when the water goes down to see where the new runs will be. As far as log jams go the (S) bend log jam seems to have been moved but more logs are scattered about in that whole area. Crossing the river there might be a little tough, I back tracked and crossed further up, the water was moving pretty fast with shifting gravel and new log jams it seemed alot safer. The same thing goes for the horseshoe bend, the first riffle a new log is there and the big jam after that seems to have been pushed aside. Walked to the backside of horseshoe but with the fast water couldn't (wouldn't) cross. The river has changed a bit but I like it, there is some nice new deeper runs and pools. As for the fishing it was good I had action all day, all rainbows which was suprising. I did get alot of bumps don't know if they were (rats) or just short hits. Thats my two cents.
  17. I am going to nashville in a couple of weeks and I am going to leave a day early to fish the caney fork, I have never been just seeing if anyone has and can give some advise. I do have a pontoon boat that I could bring if it would make a big difference. I do have the Home Waters book and have looked around online but looking for a little personal advise.
  18. looking at the renzetti traveler ($194) and the presentation ($364) what is the main difference, is it just material used to make the vice plus nuts and bolts. they look the same minus a little more flash on the presentation.
  19. I am looking at getting a new vice, had mine for 25yrs or so and it is very basic. I would like to get a nice one (with some bells and whistles) but don't want to break the bank either. I know there are alot of options just wanted to see what people on this board like and use.
  20. fished down by the boat ramp form 7:00 until 11:00 on saturday with my brother and a friend, we were the only people down there. Very nice.
  21. thanks for the response. I am in the process of tying a bunch of #22 midges, everything I have read talks about tiny #22-#26 flies. I do think we will start at the kiddie hole looks like alot of good water. I hope it is easy to fish, all the talk about tiny flies has me worried they are super picky fish.
  22. Just looking for a little advise on the san juan river. A couple of buddies and I are driving to Tempe and thought we would leave a day early so we could fish the san juan. We will only have one day to fish so trying to get as much info as possible before we leave. I have done a little internet researce but thought I would post on here to see if anyone has been and any advise you could give so we could be a little more prepared once we got there. It seems like a great river and I am really excited to fish it.
  23. Hopper did you fish taneycomo on monday? I fished just alittle down stream from a guy with a boat that looked alot like that one, if that was you that is a VERY nice boat. When I was walking out around 11:00 it was anchored off to the side I wanted to take a closer look but didn't want to seem nosey.
  24. So is the stocking of these trout just a one time thing?
  25. Ozark Trout Fisher that sounds alot like my trips to the current, up at 3am home at midnite. It is worth it but it does wear you down and make for a short weekend.
