  1. where is this stream? I have never heard of it
  2. How are the water temps out there now? Im waiting for them to get into the uppers 50's
  3. So those signs are because after a heavy rain those creeks have the potential to get backflow from the sewers and the carp may not be the only brown floaters in there. i still fish there, i just dont pay attention to the signs.
  4. oh i dont have a slow strike. its very quick and violent. prolley too much. i was just not on that trip...besides iforgot my lucky fishing hat at home...that was the real burn of the trip. just gives me an excuse to go back honestly
  5. I stayed in Estes Park last September and fished RMNP. We got skunked. A big cold front came in and the temps dropped 40 degrees over night and it started to snow. Fishing was very very tough. However i enjoyed it alot, so much so i want to go back. We fished all over, roaring river, fall river, glacier creek, big thompson, sprauge lake, and dream lake. we did catch fish, the last day we were there the sun came back out when i was on fall river and i was catching a bunch of browns and a single tiny brookie, which finished my grand slam. Caught greenbacks in dream lake, rainbow in big thompson and i dont know what the deal was but i missed a TON of fish. if i would have hooked each one i missed, i would have been super happy, prolley had caught 30-40 of them the trip instead of 10 or so that i did.
  6. no worries. I love my 30D. The only issue i have with Canon and Nikon and lenses is that back in the 80's, Both manufactures changed the lens mount style. This switch ment that you cant use any old film lenses on the digital bodies. if you have a new film lens, they work but some of the old really cool stuff doesnt work. pentax is currently leading the market in that end, with the K-X ( i believe its called ), that accepts every lens they have ever made on their new digital body. its pretty cool.
  7. I hope you mean a 30D and not actually a D30. the D30 is VERY old, only 3 megapixal and leaves ALOT to be desired, plus if I paid 300 bucks for one i would feel royally ripped off, they arent fetching more then a 2 hundred bucks if that these days. granted they can take decent pictures, there are MUCH better cameras for the price.

    Muskie Flies

yeah i think the doubled 35 lb line would be ok...its some pretty thick nonsense. But I'm sure if you have one that hits it, you'll prolley get both hooks since the muskie out there are biggens.

    Muskie Flies

those all look to be fairly heavy. they do look good, i like the segmented ones, i was thinking about tying some like that to make them HUGE, but i dont want to get carried away now
  10. very nice fish. thats one thing i never had much luck with, was winter fishing.
  11. They are pretty bad in Florida actually.

    Muskie Flies

yes they certainly are sexy hooks haha. They shouldnt be too bad to cast actually, dispite the fact they are over 9" long, they weight about the same as a dalhberg diver, or a weighted size 6 wolly bugger I'd say. if anything they are going to be too light which might make them tricky on the 8wt but we shall see. i tied up my leaders over the weekend, they are hanging from the ceiling straightening now. need to tie a couple in black and red and white and red and wait til march.
  13. your kidding?!?!? They are just saying a slight chance of flurries in STL. Man thats nuts
  14. All I know is going from digital to slide IS NOT cheap...it kinda sucks.
  15. you and me both man
  16. I usually use a Stimulator when i want to imitate a hopper. I did a couple of foam things the other day that are hopper looking, dunno how they will work though. Also made some club sandwiches, those seems to work fairly well all around.

    Muskie Flies

Sure i will get some pictures to scale them. The hook is a 2/0 2x short tarpon from Gamakatsu or however that is spelled. Total length on them is about 9 - 9.5" eye to tail tip

    Muskie Flies

I did enjoy that...saved a copy actually. Thats one big gnarly fly.....i almost want to tie one just because haha. I might tinker with a few other patterns today, the only problem i have with them is that these big butt tarpon hooks aint cheap.
  19. started tieing... http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20991 and i got some big game mono at Cabela's today that im going to tie up as my leader from fly line to steel leader/tip

    Muskie Flies

This thread is in dedication to this thread : http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20458 Last weekend i finally got my tying desk set up and this week has been go to town week. Friday i got some supplies and started to think. I needed something big, some flashy, an something that looks like a baitfish. Enter this: Im pretty happy with how it turned out. Its big ( 9.5" )flashly and looks like a baitfish. I also tied one in charturse and black, but for some reason my pictures i took of it didnt turn out to my standards. next i went on a foam quest, for something topwater. There was a pattern i had in mind when i started tieing this fly, but i ended up changing it alot however, the result is wonderful Tie it alittle smaller and i think thatd be a darn good bass pattern. Well let me know what you guys think. I still think i need to tie some black and red patterns similar to the top fly.
  21. nice looking rainbows. maybe thats what i should do today..tryo to find some trout
  22. My 8 weight is all geared up and ready to go. Even have some 30 pound steel leaders rigged for the adventure. Bought some stuff today for tieing some muskie flies, well see what sort of huge nasty thing i can come up with
  23. However, there is a reason they call them the fish of 10,000 casts. Even people who fish for them will go a long time without catching one. i know a guy who fishes Pomm de Terr for 4-5 years and never caught one. Guess we'll just have to see!!
  24. it was posted a while back the sizes.... "dozen or so 12-20 inch range. 40 of them in the 30-45" range" I would assume forage is bluegill and baby fishes. i would guess there is shad in there too since there are bass and cats in it as well.
  25. Alright sounds good. Once it gets warm out here, i fish pretty much whenever as well. Coming home from work i might be like this feels like a good day to fish and go. My weekends are always open, i have a "spot" or two we can also try out. I fish alone 99% of the time too, but i think we can work it out.
