  1. i use the cheapo renegades from walmart. at 10 bucks i dont care if they fall off my head onto the highway and get hit by a tahoe going 70..oh wait..that did happen. ha. I just fear that the day i get a GOOD pair of glasses something terrible will happen to them
  2. i cant seem to open up attached files. i get a board error message saying i dont have the rights or the file is missing
  3. the MDC, or atlkeast the lady i talked to about it, said that Labarque creek is a water shed creek and will dry up when there isnt enough rain to sustain it.

    Storm!

looks like another good one is on its way in as well.
  5. Good to know...but wouldnt you want to use an 8B pencil for the dark spots? 8H would be a REALLY hard lead, heck the 4H i have will cut paper if the point is too sharp. Do you have certain brand of water color pencil you like? i had some a while ago and was less then impressed with them and the quailty of finish they gave me. i would much rather attempt to handpaint the fish over drawing on it with a the pencils, this mount is REALLY old, so im not even sure how fragile the skin still is. i think all it really needs is some gold to the top, some more spots at the laterial line and below it, and a couple new coats of clear. maybe i'll send you a PM with some pictures of it and we can converse further there instead of clogging your thread up
  6. you can also fish in forest park. and there is wilmore park at gravois and river des pres. i have fished both those parks before with good sucess. if you want to go further out into STL county there is Suson park off 221, simpson lake in fenton off marshall rd, and a couple other places here and there.
  7. i've fished in some of the streams a couple of times and caught mostly just green sunfish. this past time i did catch a little bitty orange spot sunfish though
  8. what kind of tips do you have for refinishing a mount? i have a 13 pound bass frommy great grandpa that i kinda touched up once, but it needs some more detail and color back in it, plus it needs to be shinnier. im thinking to add some more black scales/spots under the mid section line, and prolley ALOT more clear coat then last time
  9. i've caught em on corn in gravois creek. trying to catch em on a fly rod now...i'll get em one of these days
  10. i used to tie for Hargrove and i love those guys there. Parking does suck, im not going to lie, but its worth going into the shop. i, personally, am not the biggest fan of Feather craft. They always have the attitude of , oh look heres some kid whos thinks he can fish and has no money, when i walk int he door. ok then...its been more misses then hits for me there. Cabela's has some good stuff every now and then, i just picked up a #1 grade grizzly cape for 25 bucks out there. its a nice cape with plenty of varitey and good feathers
  11. If it were possible i would try to attend something of that sort. always good to get out and meet other people who enjoy it as much as i do

    "gut" Fly

haha yes you are correct details, well, the first summer i used it at montuak i caught probably 500 fish it...we were averaging 30-50 fish a weekend trip with it, and that was per person. of course we didnt keep em but it destroys them out there. its essentially a 1/32 ox jig head, peach marabou, couple strands of pearl flashabou, white marabou and tie off. you can dead drift them thru the water, sit them on the bottom, or jig em back. the fish just go nuts over em. sometimes if i cant get em to bite, i will cast directly at a group of fish and make sure it makes a very loud blunt impact on the water, they see the colors and shine and start to swarm, always gets em that way
  13. Thanks for the welcome. I will take a moment and speak for the both of us here. We're both very compitent and sucessfull anglers, we have pretty much conquired Montauk and its fish within the park, to the point where it has gotten almost boring. So now its time to branch out and explore the less popular areas, and explore new territory and see what kinds of fish we can find. We both fish spinning and fly tackle, i got Jon hooked on fly fishing i guess it was a year or two ago, so then he had to go out and buy a bunch of fly gear and now he's starting to buy the tying materials. So now i've got something else to teach 'im. haha. We are lucky being that his parents and other relatives have several farm ponds which we can fish on, and i have a buddy who has property right net to blue springs creek and blue springs CA so the adventures are never lacking. Plus my future in-laws live on table rock lake and have a couple of boats and jetskies, so were good. as far as our reports, they will be posted, along with photos. photography is another hobby of supreme enjoy ment to me. so pictures will be plentiful.
  14. There are soe spots that hold water, however im not sure if you are supposed/allowed to fish in it. Because technically isnt it part of MSD? if not, i'd be game for checking it out, the goal this summer has been catch some carp on a fly rod

    "gut" Fly

i have a gut fly receipe, not sure if i want to spread it yet though. i will say its mostly marabou and has a couple varieties tied. its works extremely well, im thinking of switching the pattern up there and using some new material in place of the marabou, havent decided on it yet though
  16. Hello everyone. I stumbled across this board today looking for some ifo on Finley river, since its in the latest issue of the Conservationist magazine. I reside in St. Louis, spend most avaliable free time fishing if i can, pretty much anywhere there is water. Spend alot of time at Montuak trout fishing, but the park is starting to bore me, its too easy to catch the fish in there now, so its time to concentrate efforts in the xxxx ribbon areas of trout. Plus whatever other little creeks and streams i find. And a fun random little factoid, my great grandma used to be the MO record holder for smallmouth bass, atleast until the current one was caught in 98 or whatever
