  1. Great report, thanks for sharing. I agree with you the Point is the best river in the Ozarks
  2. Nice report, next time you may want to try grave yard access. It's acessed by dirt road about 100 yards north of Greer launch ramp on highway 19. Eleven point canoe rental rents houses, I have 600 mile round trip and use them frequently. I will add my fish report even if it is two weeks late. My Christmas gift to me was to fish December 23. With suggestions from Brian Sloss had an epic day. Started in morning at island one and fished until noon, all rainbows caught on streamers and crawdads. Landed 8 to hand with biggest around 15". I did catch two on drys up from Island one. Afternoon fished between bridge and spring, EPIC day, non stop hook ups with small mouth and trout. The only bummer was it gets dark to early, great day on stream. Brian thanks for the tips, tight lines Jk
  3. I was challenged by Jamie Moore to do the Ice Bucket challenge and I challenged Brian Sloss of 11 Point Canoe. We decided to do it together borrowing one of Brians Kayaks. I challenged Jim Marstiller and Brian challenged his partner Ryan Griffin. I hope the video attached works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHvY6fSyL9s&feature=youtu.be BTW fishing was good on the Point
  4. Finally got out on stream, broke ankle and was on DL for 6 months. Took daughter and boyfriend fishing between Turner & Witten. Fishing was very good despite heat and boat traffic. Kept a few fish for wife's friend, most caught in shoals and fast water. The fly of choice was yellow stone and Dons Crawdad fished deep. I was challenge to do ALS ice bucket challenge and I challenged Brian Sloss. We did it together filing a kayak with ice water, I will post the video once I edit the video, I challenged Jim Marstiller and Brian challenged his partner Ryan. Great cause, thanks to Brian for participating. The river is in great shape.
  5. Thanks for sharing 2sheds, nice rainbow, good ole bead head red hot as I call that fly, river looks great. Almost healed from broken ankle, need to get down there soon
  6. Brian it's good to know your still in business, just kidding, it's been way to long, broke ankle in three places makes wading tough. Love what your doing with the Mill, if there is anything Jimmy and I can do to help, just holler. When I am healed, Jim and I will make it down there. All the best John Kern
  7. Any day on the point is awesome, catching fish is a bonus. I be there if it wasn't for broken ankle, hopefully in May I can make it down there, Jealous fan of the point
  8. Awsome fish Brian, need to get down there this fall, beautiful fish, have an idea where you landed the beast
  9. The river is easy to navigate, just keep eyes focused down stream, there are only few mild challenges in the Greer to Turner section, i take the left side first island, park canoe at bottom walk up right side fish that and shoals below first island. With water up a bit just look out for bends where current is pushing against. Like all who posted we park canoes at areas we fish and I park above fast water and walk to we're I fish. When water is up slightly, love hurricane shoals, best place to park is right side, add weight and high stick it. Just down from hurricane around next bend is Mary Decker, left side is best approach. I would check with Brian, at 11Point, with recent high water there may be changes to river. The flow is around 800' actually like fishing it between 600-800. Good luck, need to get down there
  10. Mark is correct, there are only a couple access points which is good. I wade it all the time when canoeing, the river is bit up but there ar areas to wade. These are some areas i would wade in grear to turner. Both sides of first island, shoals directly below first island, left side of small second island. I fish moderately fast to fast water with stone flys, and Crawdad pattern. Brian at 11 point sells flys, my favorite is dons Crawdad it consistently produces. With water up use additional weight to get it down, if you aren't snagging now and then you re not fishing deep enough. Enjoy the river
  11. River is good, I agree with Brian on MD shoals, I did the left route at MD, made it through on inflatable but it was a challenge, there are some logs that are in the preferred line of approach, if I had to do it over I would take right.
  12. You will have a great time, fishing was good, river in good shape. I wasn't laughing just hoping no one would see me in a state of undress, not pretty. Hope the weather cooperates.
  13. Let me start by saying the river is in great shape and fishing well, many fish were caught over 18 inches from Greer to Witten. Saw many eagles and deer everywhere. In two days of fishing I caught well over 40 fish, using mohair leach, Crawdad, and stonefly patterns. Turner to Whitten I had the most numbers, Greer to Tuner the best quality in terms of size. I also caught numerous wlld fish which is a good sign. Now the comical portion, fish numbers would of been higher if I didn't do: Forget battery nut forcing drive back to Alton from Turner, completely submerging myself with no dry cloths, forcing me to wait for waders to dry and go cammo all day, losing anchor, lost landing net, left toilet paper in car, and hitting a tree backing up at the new Whitten area. I was not the only one, a group of guys tip a canoe with supplies just above Whitten I collected beer, food, coolers and cloths as they floated down to ramp area. I want to thank Brian's team for shuttling car for me.
  14. Nice report Brian. It was good seeing you a couple weeks ago, hope thanksgiving in the Ozarks went well. Your suggestion for where to fish was spot on, had a blast stripping buggers where I would never thought there be trout. In some cases even saw the take had a great time. Sounds like I need to bring the swamp donkey down there before end of the year.
  15. The morning started with a much need rain storm. I floated the river on my swamp donkey from greer to turner the fishing was exceptional. The upper half fished much better than the last couple of miles. The right side of island 1 was money, many fish caught, several large ones lost. There are snags but well worth the risk, I spent several hours fishing it. The fish were caught using Don's Crawdad, rubber leg golden stone, and size 2 black stone. The one that got away was the deep pool before Mary Deckers. I kept adding length to line to get fly to bottom, about 14 ft. Used a big black stone and hook a large fish that i got a good look at that was well pass 20"' there is rock that juts out just under the water an lost it there. I spent about 9 hours on stream caught around 30. The stream is low but in wonderful shape. I rate right side island number 1, and bluff hole number 2, and hurricane shoals number 3 for numbers of fish caught
  16. That would be the sycamore tree on the left, and the current sweeps you right into if you don't know the river. It is always smart to ask the outfitters what obstructions to look out for, I know I ask Brian of 11 POINT canoe if there is anything that has change, and the river does change due to storms. It is totally different than it was 10 years ago. Glad you had a good time on the point, and congrats on trout caught JK
  17. Yes it is a Colorado, and I just had it on the upper Missouri in Montana and it performed great. The only issue was the anchor which is a bag filled with rocks, the Missouri shredded the bag and I bought a 14 pound lead anchor that drift boats used. It will work perfectly in the trophy area.
  18. I know where you tipped in, there is a sycamore tree on the left and the current forces you into it. That tree has claimed many a canoe who are on the river the first time. Best to walk your canoe on the right. It is about 3 miles or so below Turner, that tree knock out my best freind, glad no one was hurt
  19. Thanks for getting me to the stream on short notice Brian, fishing was some of the best I have experience on the Point
  20. I have attached some pictures, one of the raft I call the Swamp Donkey and the other is of 21" rainbow caught this past friday, the fishing was exceptional
  21. Took maiden voyage on the swamp donkey and caught many fish. The day has to rank as one of my best on river. Several fish over 20" where caught, mostly in fast water at the head of runs. I was using 2 fly setup with Dons Crawdad on top and soft hackle on the bottom. The majority of the fish took he Crawdad pattern. Brian was correct about paddling the donkey through long stretches of flat water, icing shoulder. Good time it head to the point
  22. I was on the river this Friday and saw about a half dozen jet boats and for the most part they were polite, with such a jem like the 11 Point, it does bother me to smell gas and oil as the boats pass you. I do believe they should not be allowed above Mary Deckers it is pretty tight above that.
  23. Nice report Brian you got me jazzed, was going to come down today but to windy and Big 12 tourney in town. I am looking at possibly Tue next week, the only mistake you made was telling all of us where you hooked it, hope to see you next week. Daughter wants you to guide her over the summer, she enjoyed the last time and your more patient than I JK
  24. Brian Sloss of 11 Point Canoe has always asked me to fish for smallies in the winter. For starters it was 60 on January 30th, it was a bonus before we even started fishing. It was worth driving from KC and wading with two one inch slashes in waders which at least kept me awake. The first two casts netted nice 14-15" smallies and the action was steady all day even with a few fisherman hitting that stretch all day. I have been fishing the Point for many years and never targeted smallies what a mistake they are trout on steriods. Many thanks to Brian for showing me how to target and catch smallies and for putting up with my feeble attempt to work a drift boat, I now have a greater repsect for guides who row these bad boy, icing shoulders as I type, Happy New year to all Point fisherman
  25. Called Brian at last minute to sneek a day on the river for a day. Brian was right thr river had a cloudy look but the levels where still low. The day started our a bit cold around 40 degrees but warmed to about 55 degrees. I caught three at Island one and then it slowed until Island 4 where I caught a couple of 15 inchers. The best fishing happen at shoals above Hurrican rapida and in Hurricane rapids where I caught 6 fish, two of which where 18"+. I ended the day with oneat Mary Deckers, about a dozen fish for the day and the best deal, I saw only two canoes all day.
