Fly Fishing In Bass Tourneys
exiledguide replied to BackCastingGolfer's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
They had a fly fishing tournament way back in the early days of BASS, on Dale Hollow [i think] in the winter won by Billy Westmorland and I'm not sure it was an offical tourney staged when Ray Scott was trying to get members. If I remember it was a total farce Billy won using a hair jig on his home lake and I think there were very few fish caught. It was kind of swept away, he couldn't sell advertising to the fly fishing industry. It may come as a suprise to you the changes through the years to yhe rules, at one time unless I'm wrong you were limited to a small amount of tackle you could fish with, your tackle box could only weigh a certain number of pounds , off course Bass boats back then were were not big enough to hold much tackle. They actually looked like a cross between a claw foot bath tub and a john boat. Seems like Terry and Skeeter were the big names back then. I think back then bass fishing was a lot more fun because you were a fisherman before you became a bass fisherman or lady. It sure was a lot cheaper.before lure manufactures became corperations with an outdoors division. -
Jump on me if you want. No where have i seen that felt soles have been proven to spread Didymo I see most likely can probably might but no real scientist without study and peer review would state that. We also know that this substance has been around for a long time why has it not spread to unaffected waters? I have no problem with the ban if it would stop the spread in Missouri but there has been no spread and if this is an invasive species why has it not destroyed all the water in say the NFOW. Invasive plants that have been banned such as Water Hyacanths in ARK could be seen to rapidly choke out everything in any body of water. It would seem to me that if the MDC really cared about stopping this INVASIVE plant they would until they could prove how it was spread if it truly is such a problem they would BAN ALL WADE FISHING in threatened waters but but that would not set well with the CEOs at Orvis,Sims etc. Also no one has ever explained why one stream is infected and another is not. I also remember "scientist " telling me that the only way HIV could be transfered was by having unprotected sex with a homosexual. Then we found out that wasn't true. Going back a little further the scientist working for the cigarette companies swore there was no link between smoking and any illness. There was no evidence according to some scientist there was no link between coal mining and black lung disease. There was evidence that according to scientist Polio was caused by swimming pools so when I was a little guy shortly after World War 2 public pools were closed in St Louis, the fact that chidren still, a few of them my clasmates, caught this horrible disease could no sway the powers that be. Good thing Jonas Salk didn't accept the lies put out by scientist.

Missouri Stream Access Law, One More Time
exiledguide replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
Justin and Drew,I don't think that argument holds any water at all. If you don"t know the law you shouldn't be allowed to have any part in the enforcement. That was the main reason the law was changed when I was a lot younger because abuses of the law were excused because at that time you could be a judge in MO without a law degree. Thatlead to people being imprisoned without ever commiting a crime.Law eforcement should be about protecting our rights and freedoms no serving as security guards for criminal drug manufacturing. Before any one rips me about my position just look at what happened recently over on the Current River with the Sherrif and one of his deputies ended up in jail with serious drug charges. Let me add this that I am not trying to imply that law enforcement officers are crooked, far from it the two I mentioned are the only ones that I have heard of. I also have a niece in law enforcement and another niece whose husband is in in law enforcement. Also the last I heard it's against the law to harras or interfere with anyone legaly pursuing game in the state of Missouri. I believe that law was passed to PETA wack jobs from interfearing with hunting and fishing. -
Can I use this A rig at Roaring River? This would be great one cast almost a limit and with with the proper rod you cold cast way upstream. Just think of the fun. What about Bennet Springs? Just trying to inject humor among the stupidity.

Missouri Stream Access Law, One More Time
exiledguide replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
I don't understand why this is even an issue usually when the supreme court makes a ruling law enforcement abides by it. It would seem that violating that law would be a crime itself and doing it at the behest of another person "landowner' would seem to indicate a criminal conspiracy. I also don't understand why MDC, MSA or Trout Unlimmited don"t use thir influence to get this issue solved. Also, didn't we used to have spell check on this forum? -
Catching Minnows
exiledguide replied to MSUFisherBear's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
The best minnow trapper I ever knew was John Jones and his wife who lived just down stream from Joe Williams' Trails End campground on the Castor River over by Marquand MO. Mrs Jones swore that the secret was using unsalted crackers. I don't know if that's true but I've never seen anyone catch as many minnows as she did in her trap. -
Didymo, How Much Is Your Stream Worth To You?
exiledguide replied to Liv2flyfish's topic in General Angling Discussion
Cut into chunks with eggs, potatoes obrien, onion and Tony Chassere cajun seasoning scrambeld and fried soft with a little chedar cheese and I know I did something right the day before especially if it's if it's covered with a good thick sausage gravey.Maybe the gravy is for something good I did the Night before...... -
I use Hi Vis XL when I fish jigs or grubs or worms, been fishing it since the late 1960s and it catches fish. But as you can see here everyone has their own opinion. I am more of a line watcher than most people but when I throw a topwater crankbait or spinerbait I do use green mono. I don't think there is any one line to use, I feel that for most aplications flouro and braid are not the right lines for me.But the thing for you to do is try the different types of line and use what works best for you.

Jerkbait Beginner: Need Tips
exiledguide replied to GBpackerfan's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Wait wait wait wait wait...........etc. Once you start catching fish waiting on a jerkbait it becomes easier to wait. my suggestion, if you want to learn to fish a jerkbait is to fish with someone who likes to fish one and only bring jerkbaits so you are forced touse them. If you maintain youre sanity, and actualy start catching fish with them you can catch a lot of fish with them but probably no one will want to fish with you anymore...... also not all jerkbait bites are soft I've had some bass hit it as hard as a Northern. -
Could you ask him the location of all the spots in MO that have been infested with Didmo that was spread by felt soles? Every time I read anything about the problem, I see a lot of might be or could be or probably is etc. but no real evidence, although some folks on this forum have claimed that could be or might be etc is fact.

I'm just sitting here thinking that everyone who is upset about the a rig ban should just refuse to fish in the next BASS tournament. That will show them!... Wait a minute, you are not allowed to fish in their tournaments. Never mind.

Thank for the info. Last year may 10 on Indian Point in the flooded sycamore trees in Stiilwaters cove my bride and I found LM feeding on very small sunfish. She wore them out using 1/32 oz with a chartruse Gulp Alive fish fry. For some reason people think that you can't catch decent fish on small baits. Now we fish for fun so both of us catching and releasing more than a limit of 15" to 18" in less than 3 hours made her day. I always carry small plastics with me whenever fishing clear lakes.

Sure wouldn't want to hurt true tournament fishing...........

Thumbs up!

Shame on you Gilly after the "fat ladies in bikinis at Shelvin Rock in august" that traumitized me, I would hope the term Cougar would be banned from use on this forum. Mountain Lions would be more acceptable.....

I,m glad you took it the right way, sometimes my humor is not appreciated even by me.... I thought poet laurete of lebanon would have jumped on that.

You never know, it might increase your membership base, just think what what spank me daddy .com or Eastern European Hot Chicks Who Will Do Anything For A Green Card .com will do to increase readership. Okay, that came from Big Bang Throry, but you have to admit that fly fishermen are strange critters, read some of the post on the Bennet Springs forum............

Same thing I have been throwing ever since I started throwing suspending baits a long time ago. 10 pound XL green worked then works now.
