I think I understand now. Apparently the status of bass among fish is much higher and they deserve more reverance than other species who taste better. Actually I think MaxDrown said it best "Because we want the bass to be big."

Something I have been puzzled over ever since I started fishing a few years ago is why do Bass fishermen promote the release of all bass but think it is fine to keep other legal species. Is there something special about bass that I should be aware of? As far as I know they are not endangered and they reproduce extremely well on thier own without much need for stocking. Surely someone can enlighten me on the logic behind this.

More than likely, those on here that think MDC has no intrest in having a breeding mountian lion population are correct. It is not politically smart to support such a thing because they would recieve the blame if someone is hurt by one or someone loses livestock to one. On the other hand they have to show some kind of concern because it is a species of wildlife and therefore falls under thier perview. In order to address both issues they set up the Mountian Lion Response Team which pretends to care. The only time they will investigate is when they are hit over the head with evidence ie. a dead one or a picture of one. Even then they seem to spend as little effort as possible and close the case quickly. A prosecution would make a big spectacle of something they wish they didn't have to deal with.

Where is the Lamar Valley? I had two wolf looking creatures within 30 yds of me a couple of years ago in Dade County. They would have weighed in the area of 100 lbs each.

MIne is Stockton Lake but I wouldn't recomend anyone else fish it.
