  1. Don't know how soon you plan to purchase but there is a Warm Water Fly event at Reading's Fly Shop on the 7th. I know Sage/Reddington rep is going to be there and you can cast several rods, incl. other brands, on water plus you might win something you would be needing to buy anyways in the free raffles that will be held. Just a thought. Several folks will be tying flies as well so you can get info in that regard as well.
  2. When: July 7, 2012 Where: Readings Fly Shop Rte. 64 Lebanon, Mo. (417)- 588-4334 note: Just east of the north entrance to Bennett Spring State Park or West of Lebanon, Mo. on Rte. 64 on the north side of the highway. Time: 9 AM - 3 PM Mfg. Reps, Casting pond demos, Fly tying demos and FREE hourly raffles. An Abel reel will be raffled at this event among other items. Come on out, try some new stuff, see some new stuff, and maybe win some new stuff ... for FREE!
  3. My approach if Diamondback Flawless is your choice of rod would be the DBF906-4SSD. Why ; oversize guides allow for a better & easier shoot easily goes up a line size, perhaps 2 depending on your casting style ...... this opens up larger fly sizes with the same rod. cost difference is only 50 bucks but versatility makes it well worth the difference. understandably, ymmv
  4. QuickPix app. helps ....... I say if it ain't good enough, I guess you shoulda been there.
  5. I believe Charlie Reading is selling blanks & kits. Pretty sure he's dealing TFO but I imagine he can get others. Give him a call. At the least, he could be your source for components mebbe. http://www.superpages.com/bp/Lebanon-MO/Readings-Fly-Shop-L0098570825.htm
  6. LOL ...
  7. The only person, I'm aware of, to get fishing access from her was Tom Hargrove. Under the guise of "entomology research" while he was going to SMS. For all others it was "Posted"!
  8. Smalliebigs, Have you contacted Ventura to see if he wants to go to the game tonight?
  9. Hey Aro, If you clip the front corners off those they will have less tendency to spin during casting. I've had to tweak 'em on the water to get 'em to stop. Another invaluable use for Swiss Army, Fishermans Model (they have scissors) Mebbe you did ...... just sayin ....
  10. This discussion puts me in mind of an incident that occurred at the international show in Denver in 2010. An individual a good number of the posters here know stepped up to the casting pond and issued a challenge. "If you have a better casting rod bring it up here!" (as he proceeded to cast the full fly line) The rod he was casting was a $100.00 kit rod from China. It's all relative. Get the rod that works best for both you AND your budget. I never was much concerned with being a stream side fashion plate. Case in point; My link Are you going to see a lot of them on the water? No, but I could care less. It's a canon and I will be fishing it. In this day and time you can spend more money on a fly line than the rod you're throwing it with and in some cases, is just as, if not more than, important than the rod! Most important of all is your offering in the strike zone. How you got it there becomes a moot point in the hero shot!

  13. The bridge at 160/13 gets beat up pretty badly these days. Even with access being limited to just the southwest side of the bridge (where there is parking at the old convenience store location). Floaters are still launching from this side but going through posted property to get that done. AFAIK, no one has been arrested yet but it's only a matter of time before that gets enforced and eliminated as well. I still go there to check out fly design but if I also want fish response I go elsewhere. (I also access the river from the highway easement.)
  14. The top link is the new sling from Orvis. My link The bottom is "older" stock. I have the older sling and just recently transferred from my old wood river tackle bag. I don't know if the new one is waterproof or not but I like the removable "compartment" of the older version better because you can relocate it to the strap. It does look like the new version has a couple d-rings added (the orange loops) which is a slight improvement over the old sling.
  15. Good science has gotten us where we are today. Yessiree! If we can just declare a "War on didymo" it'll soon be everywhere and we can forget about it. Except for the non-profits events and drive to continue the "good" fight. I don't know if you know it but "The snakeheads are coming!" "The snakeheads are coming!"
