Nice fish! The James has been fishing good this year.
-
You ain't foolin' me! They only eat topwater in the kitchen. Not the bedroom!
-
The river is in good floatable stage. You shouldn't have to drag at all if you don't want to. Good luck!
-
The floating section would be between Shelvin Rock and Hootentown.

My last outing on the James was a wk-day so the traffic was light. The first set of floaters, 2 rental canoes announced just up river of me they were coming by behind. I said, "Come ahead." "Are ya catchin' any fish?", was the inquiry. I said, "Yeah, I've caught a few." I think in an effort to impress his girlfriend, the kid asks me, "What kind of trout are ya catchin'?" I had to smile as I paused and replied, "Browns, I'm catchin' browns" "Right on", he says. Electric chicken was the top producer for the day followed by the fish skull river minner and a craw pattern I tie. The menu: Several of the satisfied customers Next up is some jack salmon on the Finley, mebbe. I dunno

For your first question ... http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22564 For the second question ..... No, smallies should be released 365 days a year. It should be enough for anyone to catch one. Let it swim! They're loaded with worms & toxins anyhow. That's why I don't even hold them for pics. Well, that and no reason to ruin a good pic by having me in it.

They are metal. http://www.flymenfishingcompany.com/

Thanks! Most definitely. It's chuck & duck with the med. skull on a 6 wgt.. At least for me it is.
-
Decided to water test the fish skulls. Verdict is smallies like 'em and I like castin 'em. The small ones that is, the med. not so much. Although the 6 wgt. will lob the med. an 8 will cast it much better. The main river flow has pretty well cleared out from the recent high water and it's all stacked on the inside corner leading into the ledgerock holes. I actually like it better.
-
I managed to acquire some small & medium size fish skulls and tied a couple streamers up. Nothing special. Just some field testers. I think I will have greater use for the small versions than the med or lg. The med will sink like a rock for sure. I'll have to chuck it with an 8 wgt. My 6 wgt will cast the small no problem. The golden chartreuse is tied on a sz 4 34011 mustad. The coppertone is tied on a sz 4 3366 mustad. This hook is too lg for a small head. I think BCO is gonna carry these so you might check with them if you're interested.

Talked to the guy with the construction outfit that is working on the bridge yesterday. He said it looks like starting May 10th and for the following 3 months the bridge will be shut down. They will be directing boat traffic with buoys. When they are done there will be a brand new bridge deck. It needs it!

The results are in...... took a limit of crappie only a couple on the purp/chartruese the rest came on the electric chicken. Good bait. I left and the fish were still bitin. Gotta go clean some fish.
-
I'll let you know. I got 1 pkg. of that brand in purple/chart. and found some Larew (slab slayer, same pour) electric chicken @ FF. It'll be a showdown!

I'm going in the morning. Anybody been using those slab buster plastic baits? Just another latest & greatest or what? http://www.slabbuster.com/

Belly Boats / Float Tubes
crawfly replied to Flysmallie's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
"These lakes provide drinking water for Springfield. It is a common practice to disallow these activities in waters that are part of municipal water supplies." Stockton lake is a supplier of water for Springfield. Water is treated from every source before distribution. I had an incident at Springfield lake in the early eighties. The cops were called but I got out of the water and loaded up before they ever got there. I was wadered up and essentially isolated from the water as much as any others fishing but I didn't feel like getting arrested over the issue as I got pretty vocal with the guy before I launched. The policy and argument for it makes no sense but it has never seemed to make any difference. They, City/CU, have been approached before including by fishers who also were employed by CU. That doesn't mean things can't ever be changed though. Good luck with this. -
The pull off area with limited parking has been eliminated (post & cable) on the southeast side of the bridge. That was the last spot left. They eliminated the southwest side several years back. All that's left is the shoulder of the highway. Just a heads up before you run over expecting to fish there.

Reality TV at its best. Watch for the upcoming Survivor Celebrities from Augusta, Ga. to find out who can do 18 holes before they get kicked off the course!

No problem. Glad to help. You know where you can find me if ya run into any problems. Tip on the pliobond. Get some methyl ethyl keytone and thin it about 50% before you coat the wraps. 5-6 coats ought to do it.

I don't know if it will help you at all but before the advent of "systems" and far fewer options available we made our own shooting heads. Essentially it involves cutting your floater just after the taper to running line. Remove the coating to expose the core of each where you made the cut and then whip a loop (with a bobbin) on the core folded back on itself. Pliobond the whip and you now have a floating shooting head. Purchase a cheap sinker of your choice and cut that one at the same point. (transition to running) Whip a loop in the head portion, glue and you now have a sinking shooting head. Rinse and repeat for as many variables as you want stream side. You can usually pick up sinkers pretty cheap. Old stock, whatever. Who cares because they sink anyhow. If you were to do something like this I would suggest going at least a foot into the running line before the cut. That way you will load the rod and have the hinge point (loops) just inside your rod tip and you can shoot the rest for distance. Changing lines is just a matter of un-looping one head and looping on a different one. Same loop to loop as tippet if you do that. Hope this helps. If nothing else it's an option.

Smallie Fishing: Monday Dec. 14th
crawfly replied to smallmouthjoe's topic in Sac & Little Sac Rivers
Finding the whites can be the hardest part of chasing them. That's why it's called chasing white bass! It's been a good number of years since I was up on Little Sac at Taylor to launch and run but this should get you there ...... Take 50th st off 123/215 just after Eudora run it north til it T's go right follow it to the river. 50th is right on a curve to the left on the highway all you really do is keep going straight north off the highway. Hope you have better luck this year! -
http://www.jackgartside.com/ Past away last night in his sleep... Sad news. Last evening, after a hospitalization of several weeks, Jack finally lost his protracted battle with lung cancer. He was in bed resting comfortably, attended by friends, with the first snow of the season falling silently outside. Services will be held later this week in Winthrop, MA and East Boston. Details, including date and time, will be available tomorrow on the Ruggiero-Mazzarella funeral home’s web site. Other information will be posted here as it becomes available (or you can send email to the site). Jack meant so much to so many of us. For his part, of his friends and fans he always said, “I’m the richest man I know.” Over the years there were so many stories: funny, loony, inspiring, head-shakingly amazing, and death-defyingly nuts. Here’s hoping you’ll share your own thoughts or experiences with Jack in the Comments below (posted comments will appear after a brief delay). Goodbye, buddy. Likely you’re already scouting ahead, noting the currents and the good structure. So that when finally we join you you’ll simply point to a spot in the water and say, “Cast your fly there.”

Looks like you had a great float trip! Chicken fajitas stream side doesn't happen very often either!

Fly Fishing In The Hawaiian Islands?
crawfly replied to vandelay's topic in U.S.A. - South & West Regions
There are bonefish in Hawaii. Even catchable on Oahu and there are guides available these days. We caught them incidentally but seldom fished a bait they would be interested in. (shrimp cost too much money) I cut teeth saltwater and the target species was mullet because of the money. All of it was night fishing. 90% of the fish can be caught from a loaf of bread. (chum was free stale bread from the chow hall, fresh bread for the hooks) Daytime trips my friends or brother & I were almost always after barracuda or shark. Much more exciting when you're just a kid. -
I can see it pretty well. Look at the white rock mid-screen. He actually fins upstream across the top pf it. He also appears to like the 8 ppm coming out of the hatchery! Nice fish & vid!
