I'll be floating and fishing it this weekend (mostly for smallmouth) but I'm bringing the fly rod and plan to fish for trout a little bit. I've never fished for trout in a stream like this so any tips you've got would be appreciated. Not asking you to share any secrets are anything but patterns to use this time of year would also help me out. Really excited to finally float this season!!! Thanks in advance for any replies.
I marked the James because thats where I can get to easiest: I am only 14! But I love to fish and try to often. I even plan on going into conservation when I am an adult.
I would say never. if something is put there by a man I don't see it as wild. That is only my take though. I think a trout is wild only when it is born in the wild stream itself.
We had a great day out there today. Floated about six miles and we caught about 22 SM between the 2 of us. I started out with a 4" amber tube and really didn't switch much from it all day- just to a craw colored crankbait in deep water that didnt yield any results. then we still had a while till dark so we drove over to the little sugar and waded and each caught 4 more- including a 17" LM that proved to be the biggest fish of the day. It was a gorgeous day to be out and a good day of fishing!
I was at a farm pond the other day and I had a little fly rod with a popper just having fun catching some bluegill and I had a channel bite on a 5 inch sunnie as i was reeling it in! Didnt set the hook in time or I could have caught two fish on 1 fly. Man that cat wanted the little sunnie bad!
