  1. I didn't say it was a major deal. But you said they "don't have any track record of being a danger to humans". I was merely pointing out that that is not factually correct.
  2. That's not correct: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/lion/attacks.html That's just California. Not saying we need to fear an attack, especially around here. But they do have a track record of attacking humans.
  3. I had one of the deep cranking sticks in that line a couple of years ago. Thing is a thick as a pool cue and is really heavy. I returned it.
  4. That's my thought, too. This isn't just shooting one deer illegally. The article says this is about the worst they'd ever seen. You'd think a little jail time would have been well deserved in this case. Thanks for posting it, Jeff!

    Awd Vs 4Wd

I also launch my boat on a gravel area here on Beaver Lake. I only need 2wd to pull it out 99.9% of the time. But AWD and 4WD will both work fine, if needed. Most AWD systems lock the other axle in when they detect slip from the main drive wheels. You will likely never notice it as the system reacts very quickly.
  6. No, it was a Boston Whaler type boat.
  7. Thanks for the report. I went out yesterday morning from about 7am-10am, just in the PC area. Got into pretty decent bite in 20fow way back in a cove. Dragging stuff on the bottom, rigs and jigs, with plastic minnow baits got most of them. No big bass, but several legals, and a 21" Wally. Once I started catching fish, I had two other boats horn right in on my spot, though. Both about a half cast away. I could not believe it. They had been in the cove, but much further away. One a trolling boat, the other a pontoon. That killed the action, so I just left. Now I remember why I hate fishing on the weekends.
  8. We had a couple over yesterday. Took them on a long boat ride on Beaver to see the fall colors and we had a fish fry afterwords. Both about 70, born and raised in NW Ark. She was raised on various parts of the river (White, Kings, James) and had a lot of stories to relate about the pre-dam days. Her father owned a large farm in what is now the Prairie Creek marina area, and he owned the first real Wal-Mart building. Actually, she still owns it, but it's not a Wal-Mart anymore. Very interesting to pick their brains about before and after. She said there was a lot of hate and discontent by the folks made to move. She said she still gets spooked about being on the lake because she knows under the boat is where she grew up and all her friends and relatives lived. She kept asking me what part of the lake we were on, I'm sure to try and picture what it looked like before the dam.
  9. Thanks, but that's not the message that comes up when it prompts for the password, but I do see it now in the forum description.
  10. Just tried to get into the politics forum, and the site prompted for my password, even though I was already logged into the site. I tried my password, and it told me it was incorrect. I was able to see that forum this morning. Has it been locked down?
  11. My HB units have a depth offset setting. So you can adjust them as the water level fluctuates.
  12. I'd guess demand is just down right now. Air conditioning season is over. So we're kind of in between now. I've yet to turn the heat on in my house, so I'd guess many others have not yet either.
  13. I've only used Navionics on my 'birds. Seems to work well for the lakes around here (except Swepco is not on it), but not always 100% accurate. Close though. This might be the link you were looking for: http://www.navionics.com/en/webapp
  14. Correct. There are a few places that have E-Free in premium only. So you do need to be careful and check at the pump/station. Still no change in the lines at all. At this point, I'm more than satisfied that they sell what they advertise. Only makes sense. If they were selling E-10 while advertising E-Free, they'd have been caught long ago by the state. As Quillback says, to qualify as E-free in Ark, the ethanol content has to be very, very low.
  15. At +4 hours and no change so far. Not even a little bit. Sure looking like 100% E-free. I'll check it again tomorrow.
  16. This got my interest because I've purchased a LOT of fuel at that Jiffy Kwick over the years, specifically because they advertise non-Ethanol. I'd be a little more than miffed if that were not the case, so figured I'd better do my own test. Purchased some fuel today and ran the test. I put 10oz of mid-grade fuel from there in a graduated container. Then I added 2 ounces of water. I used 10oz of fuel to make the math easy, if the amount shrunk. I used 2oz of water because that was the bottom measure on the container. See the pictures below: After 30 minutes, here's what I saw. No change at all: I stirred it well before letting it sit for the 30 minutes. I stirred it again after taking the last picture and will continue to check it over the next day or so. I'll report the results. But at this point, I'm satisfied that I'm getting what I paid for. BTW, that station now carries both E-Free and E-10 fuel. The pumps are well marked as to which are which.
  17. It was a good day for sure. I have an advantage on the schooling fish because I was throwing the spoons with one of my Calais DC's reels. The increased range it affords is significant, and I think important to getting some of the fish I caught. Even though they're feeding like crazy, they are still somewhat boat shy. So the more of a sneak attack you can make it, the better. Jeff makes it sound like I caught all the fish, but he caught a mess of fish, too. A very fun day on TR. Thanks for driving, Jeff!
  18. Must be why so many boats were out on the lake Thursday. I was on my first spot about 6am in the Shaddox Hollow area, and there were boats going by shortly after that. By the time I loaded up at 11, there was a bass boat on every point. Must be a fairly major tourney to get that many guys seriously pre-fishing it.
  19. Not my fault he's so easy to distract. :-) Actually, I had a nasty bird's nest in one of my reels, I think on the same day as Jeff did this one. Mine was dumber, though. I had my bait on the bottom but had not turned the handle to engage the reel yet. I was messing with the depth finder, got a bite and set the hook. Ooops. Got the fish, though. Just swapped the reel out once I unhooked it. Too much of a mess to bother with until I got home.
  20. My buddy that works there says they shut down on the 5th and the circulating pumps will be off for a total of 5-6 days. That schedule may have changed as they never know until they get in there what all needs to be done some times. AFAIK, the lake itself has never been shut down to access, at least in the last few years. It was a tough launch in some of the low water times, though. The plant was closed for a long while for some major repairs and updates, and their long term status was in question. But I believe that's all been resolved at the state politics level. They've been up and running for months now.
  21. Sorry I didn't extend an invite, Jeff. Just happened suddenly this morning when I found out I wasn't going to NWACC.
  22. Class didn't happen today (I'm taking a computer programming class at NWACC for fun, Friday class), so hit Beaver again. Caught the spots pretty good on c-rigs and drop shots, 15-35' deep. About 20 of them total, with some topping 2 pounds, and most of them legal. One smallie mixed in, but no LM. I mostly just went back and forth between a set of brush piles on a main lake point. Fished a couple of other main lake points and did well on spots on one and caught a 20" Walleye on the other (made the trip home with me). So a good day. They seemed more fired up than yesterday on the same spots. Maybe they can feel the cold front coming?
  23. Looks like an English Springer Spaniel. I have 2 of them now. I guess I've had close to a dozen of that breed over the years, as I was big time pheasant hunter when I lived in MN. Great dogs.
  24. Puppies are cute!
  25. Tons of complaints on the web about the new release. Sucks there is no way to go back for the folks that get it and hate it.
