  1. Sounds like a place I need to check out... Never been that far upstream on the Finley... Of course, I've only lived here 9 months...
  2. I have those magnifying jeweler's goggles when I tie small. They work pretty good for me. The smallest I tie anything so far is a 22 or 24. My fly tying "mentor" ties with no glasses, no magnification at all... down to a size 32... Now THAT'S small...
  3. Aw Tim... A little rain never hurt nobody... Get back down there and collect more pheesh porn!! Looks like I was a one day late and a couple days early... Nice pheesh!!
  4. I would not tie over a 16, with an 18 being about as large as I've tied or seen tied. I've seen them down to a 28...
  5. Nope.... It was a Fly Fisherman, a MoDot worker, and a two-headed kangaroo...
  6. I would think the water temp would need to climb a bit before fishing the Finley would be productive. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course. What stretch is that, pvspmo?
  7. Yep, John... can't tell you how many times I've left Jonesboro, got to Hardy, called the "dam" number, and headed right on up 63 due to the generation at BSD and Norfork... Of course, meeting my lovely bride who lived in Mammoth Spring at the time was a bonus for sure. Somethin' in the water up there... As for the canoe hatch, I just fish around it... But it is a hassle for sure...
  8. Hey Flysmallie... (Scene from Tombstone just as one of the "Cowboys" has informed Wyatt Earp <Kurt Russell> when and where to meet Johnny Ringo <Michael Beihn> for a showdown...) Wyatt: "YOU TELL 'IM I'LL BE THERE!..... I'LL BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!" (Scene from Tombstone as Johnny Ringo has discovered the shadow walking toward him is not Wyatt, but is, in fact, Doc Holliday <Val Kilmer>) Doc: "Why, Johnny Ringo... You look like somebody just stepped over your grave!" I'll see everyone there!!
  9. I like using peacock or ostrich herl on several midges I tie. Using a rotary vise has helped me, but still not the easiest thing to tie. The head on the red one looks fine to me. I bet the black one will catch fish, though...
  10. Hey, JB... If you happen by the Norfork with all this rain, give us an update on how much mud is still coming off Overlook... I've got to get down there and take a look myself. Arkansas Wildlife Federation wants an "update" article on the situation.
  11. I'm waiting on Leonard to try that one on me just as he hooks a big 27 inch Brown... Yep... I've been on both ends of that trick, too. Great report! And a great time... one of many to come, I'm sure...
  12. Dang... now you've got my curiosity up....
  13. So many scissors, so little time... Being the hubby of an RN, I was lucky enough to land some scissors from the medical field. They are pretty nice. But, Dr Slicks are top notch for sure.
  14. Welcome to the forum... Yep, Phil... the list is endless... So many streams, so little time...
  15. Ah, yes... the good ol' Spring. I can't wait to get down there and re-catch the 36 you turned back... Sounds like a good trip! Bet he'll be back for more lessons...
  16. Yeah, you were up there "stalking" Leonard's big ol' pheeshes, weren't you? And you didn't have his whistle...
  17. DuckyD... I drove around the park when I first got there. I figure I saw you, but all bundled up, you fly fishermen all look alike!! .... I was wearing a Yankees knit cap... in the heart of Cards/Royals country... I should have been EASY to spot..... Yep... I'm already ready for next C&R season to come in...
  18. RR, Sounds like a good day to me! You certainly did better than I did yesterday at RR... Were you fishing upstream or downstream from the handicap access? While some people give you looks when you tie on a WB, they can be quite productive and can be fished several ways. I LOVE to cast them cross current then feel that tug on the swing.
  19. I'm anxious, as you are, John, to get JW's take on this. Having talked with John on occastion and heard private comments about some posters, John is very forgiving of those with whom he disagrees. He has a high respect for guys like Fox and others even if they do not see eye to eye on a particular subject. I read the post in question and did not see any editing... maybe it was already done by the time I read it. So I'm not sure what was originally posted and what was changed. But my money is on JW not agreeing with the type of censorship suggested. But I have to say that I respect the administrators of ANY and ALL forums, including FAOL, to change, edit, delete, or "ban" anything and anyone at any time as long as it is within the boundaries of what the "owner" of the forum (i. e. John Wilson on FFAM or Phil on OAF) sees fit. I certainly am of the opinion that unedited posting (other than for unacceptable language) makes for a much better forum, but they still have that right as far as I am concerned... I no longer post on FAOL due to the rash of editing, banning, and other things I don't agree with, but I will fight to the death for their right to do so... One last thing... I do hope that Leonard is happy that this post was not so "long winded...."
  20. Yeah yeah yeah... you guys will see when I'm featured on the front cover of Fly Rod & Reel magazine in my OAF cap... and in the centerfold....
  21. Welcome to the forum... you'll enjoy it even more now that you are diving in...
  22. I got the feeling the other day that you and he are neighbors, Dano...
  23. I enjoyed it and will be back during C&R season. Not much for combat fishing during regular season.... I missed the hot dogs, but hey... PB crackers are pretty good... Now... ON TO TANEYCOMO!!!!!
  24. Well, bad news fellas... I'm BAAAACK! I made it to Tim's Fly Shop around 8:30am and thought I'd stop in and say hi, but the door was locked. So I did a little scouting since this was my first time at RR and found that I wanted, for whatever reason, to fish right at the entrance (where I first scouted...of course... duh...) I took my new Eagle Claw 6' 6" fiberglass with the Pfleuger '66 model Medalist and set it up to cast a red SJW. Well, Dano... you may be right. A 4 wt line may just be a bit light on that rod. Anyway, I struggled right off the bat with my set up and casting (give me a break... It's been FOUR MONTHS and I ain't no Lefty Kreh.) Cold fingers made it tough to tie any kind of knots in my leader and tippet, but I finally got the SJW on my 6X tippet. Then, I made BEAUTIFUL wind knot on my fourth cast, causing another trip to the truck to work that puzzle. THEN, after several more casts, I poo-pooed again, and yet another trip for puzzle solving. With that, I made a change or two and tied on an egg. Got a few follows, but no takers. Then a crackle back... Same scenario.... By this time, I was getting a little tired and a lot cold, so I took a break and warmed my fingers, rested my knee, and consumed some peanut butter crackers with a Sierra Mist... A couple of guys moved through the pool I was fishing, but they did not do any better. I decided to make another change and switched to my 5 wt and the ol' reliable Olive Wooly Bugger. After a few casts, the guy fishing in the pool below mine landed a nice 'bow. He released him in the water, but from the bend in his rod, the time it took to land him, and the view I had of the fish's head, I would say he was around 16-18 inches. I fished another hour or so, then decided I was getting cold again and my knee was telling me it was time for some horizontal time. So I loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.... I mean headed home. I DID stop in and say hi to Tim. If he would have had some 2 lb Vanish, he would have made an extra sale today.... Well, I took no fish to hand, but found I can handle standing and fishing for a few hours and my cast, while suffering from a little rust, is still just as bad as it was in October.... Didn't see you, DuckyD... Hope you did better!
  25. Hope your out fishing, Larry... Happy Birthday!
