  1. There are a lot of "one handed spey" tactics similar. There are several guys around familiar with them. Yep... timing. And wherever the rod tip goes, the line follows...
  2. Been there and done that, PC and it ain't fun... Here's to finding a new job very soon. Enjoy the fishing during the time off...

    Southern Rock

No, Ronnie... I'm really getting into Clay Aiken and a lot of Euro-Techno stuff like Orbit... Well, Don, you and everyone else have hit most of the bands I would and do have on my list with a few additions. Edgar Winter Band Charlie Daniels Band (Listen to Still in Saigon...) The Band (While from Canada, it was "southern" Canada... LOL... and Levon Helm is from Arkansas and influenced them to a southern rock sound - Up on Cripple Creek and The Weight) Atlanta Rhythm Section and The Amazing Rhythm Aces come to mind as well with a more "refined" southern rock sound. I would put them more in a "blues" category, but a few others that skim the Southern Rock genre: Stevie Ray Vaughn The Fabulous Thunderbirds Z Z Top George Thorogood Sorry Chief, but I prefer the Molly Hatchet version of "Dreams" in that the guitar solos are much more haunting and rich than what Dickey Betts put into it. Both versions are great, though and no real argument from me on which one is the better. By the way... A bit of trivia... Who wrote "Move It On Over" covered by George Thorogood?
  4. F2F... Can you do the math again?
  5. Throw a rock in Mt Home and you'll probably hit a fly fisherman who can teach you... LOL... No.... don't really do that... Some of them it might break the rock... LOL Get in touch with John... He will "guide" you in the right direction... pun intended...
  6. This was taken during Duane's trip last year...
  7. What they said...
  8. OK... OK... OK... I'll be fine now... I was really jonesin' there for a while, but it's OK now... I'll be fine.... yeah... I'm fine... OK.... Just give me a little bit and I'll be OK... whew.... OK.... now... ahhh...
  9. Congrats!... And we knew him "way back when...."
  10. I go the 65 to 62 route myself. I've taken the 60 to 5 route once and even did the 76 to 5 route one time. That one is not recommended by me... I'm just wondering if the 60 to 5 is a better choice. If my wife is with me, she "prefers" going to Harrison and over... Says 5 is too hilly/curvy...
  11. That is VERY kewl!!! I bet if you did that with some stuffed animals, you could make a few bucks.
  12. It's based on the number of posts you have. Once you reach a certain number, you change to something else. You can't control it and make it what you want...
  13. Hey Greg... If you have a need for extra storage of those rods you don't use that you built, just bring them to me and I'll make sure they are exercised on a regular basis...
  14. Greg... Which route do you take to get to the White? Yeah, Mountain Home is definately not Branson... But then they DO have a WalMart... AND a Lowe's and Home Depot!!! Lots of good fishing spots up and down the tailwaters for sure. And you're right, Greg... The Norfork is a must!!
  15. Where are the pics of the monster 3 incher? Those little rascals can be fun... Good report.
  16. Speaking whale... Great ties...
  17. Woo hoo!!! Atta boy, Zach...
  18. Two words.... Soft Hackle... Your fly box is fine, but I would sure tie up a few soft hackles as well. Also, I do well with streamers on certain parts. This time of year, you'll want to include some midges and emerger patters just in case. Stop buy Mountain River Fly Shop in Cotter or Blue Ribbon Fly in Mt Home, or Wishes and Fishes in Bull Shoals to get the fo'-one-one on what is working best when you're down there.
  19. The Bull Shoals tailwaters are definately NOT Taney II... I would not compare the section below the dam with TRD tailwaters either. Yes, you will find some similarities, but so you will with ANY water just below a dam. However, at BSD you will not find the elbow to elbow fishng and the whole area is a mixture of water types. From the dam to the confluence with the Norfork tailwaters, you will find a plethora of different waters. You have to take a lot of time to discover all of the areas, but the favorites are Wildcat Shoals, Rim Shoals, Cotter, and others. No doubt you will find water that suits your fancy and you will have to come back down for more and more...
  20. The line weight has to do as much with the size of the flies you will be casting as much as the size of the fish you will be fighting. This is one reason a 5wt rod is so popular. It is kind of the "mid-point" that will handle smaller flies and larger flies "ok" and will land most size freshwater fish. The length of the rod is a consideration in that the longer the rod, the more distance you can cast. So small, heavily covered creek call for shorter rods like a 6' 6" or 7'6" rod, while fishing large, open areas where you want the ability to "get out there" call for much longer rods. Then we can get into the nymphing factors of lenth as well, but that's another thread. Overall, though, what you describe would be something in a shorter 6 wt - say an 8' 6". I say that because you would be casting larger streamers in the scenario you describe.
  21. OOOOoooohhhhh... GUTS..... I thought maybe it was a mixture of Miller Lite and chili dogs...
  22. Yamahammer... (love that name... YING YINg YIng Ying ying ying ying ying ying....) You don't say where you are from, but I would suggest that as a beginner, you go to a local fly shop such as the ones suggested or one closer to home. Then get a casting lesson and cast some of the beginner outfits they recommend. I have to say that I did not start that way, but really do wish I had. A half hour with a fly shop guy like Tim, Phil, or Michael on how to cast then getting a couple of choices for outfits is a great deal better than closing your eyes and pointing to a catalog and hoping for the best. Rods are like many things... Ask ten people what to get and you'll get 12 answers... or more... Base your decision on what fits YOU and your son best. Get with a local fly shop and you'll be glad you did in the long run. And welcome to the forum and your new passion of fly fishing.
  23. Once you go fly you'll never go back... or something like that... Now we've just got to get you to stop using the words "lure" and "bobber"...
  24. I was asked not long ago a couple of questions that have intrigued me a bit and would like some input from this group... There are two "big" fly fishing events in our area each year - Conclave and Sowbug. Along with that are the other not-so-well-talked-about events like Trout Festival, the Tri-Lakes show, the Warm Water, etc. All of these are located in smaller towns. The question was why is there not a big fly fishing event in Branson or Springfield? I really don't have an answer for that. What are your thoughts on how a big event like this would go over in Branson or Springfield? Let's say that an event similar to Conclave was held in one of these cities... Do you think it would go over better or worse or what? Would you guys be likely to attend an event in Branson or Springfield?
  25. May the Schwartz be with you...
