  1. I hope Michael doesn't get trampled when he opens the doors... You campin' out on the stoop the night before, Duane?
  2. Check your inbox, Fletch...
  3. I'll second FFM's comments with the exception of Dell just a nose ahead of HP. As for the crap load of junk software, I would also recommend back tracking to Windows XP or installing a Linux OS... Still don't really care for Vista myself.
  4. Haven't had it happ.... POOOOFFF!!!! Uh oh....
  5. You're just about 280 miles off there, dude... We're talking Monette (with an "e") Arkansas.... not MO.... Both nice places, but not near the mosquitoes in Monett, MO...
  6. Uh... did I say Friday? I meant SATURDAY.... yeah... that's it... RR is not open on Friday... everyone stay home on Friday... Come Saturday and Sunday only... Yeah... that's it... .that's the ticket....
  7. Yeah, sounds like the time I was fishin' with a buddy down there and we saw this funeral prcession going over the dam. The guy stopped stripping his line, took off his hat, and stood there with his hand over his heart until it passed... I said, "Man that was awfully inspiring that you would do that..." Putting his hat back on and in the middle of his backcast, he said, "Well, it's the least I could do. Afterall, I was married to her for 40 years..."
  8. Welcome aboard.... I use to live in Jonesboro and worked in Monette. Catching my first trout on a fly in the Spring River got me hooked as well. I hope that Bear Reed has already gotten you involved in the NortEast Arkansas Fly Fishers there in Jonesboogie. If not, they meet at the Nature Center once a month and then have a fly tyer's roundtable there one Saturday a month. Let me know and I'll get you in touch with Bear or one of the other members. All good friends of mine. (Watch that Dano guy... He use to be one of them "Memphis people"... if you know what I mean... )
  9. Dang I gotta get over there... How are Fridays, Tim? Driving to work this morning, I thought I should be on some water somewhere...
  10. Did they say "Na-na-na-na-boo-boo!!!" Nice shot...
  11. VERY nice shots... Care to share your settings for shot number 3? My grandparents lived in LR as did my sister for 11 years. And I grew up an hour from there, so I once knew LR like the back of my hand. They have done a great job improving the downtown area with the partnering with Memphis. I see you visited the President Clinton Library / Adult Book Store / Trailer House...
  12. Dang, Duck... You're gonna turn into an Arkansas Go Getter.... In the morning you take your wife to work, then in the afternoon, you Go Getter!!!! Fish in between...
  13. C'mon, JD... Admit it... you went home and tied a cigarette butt fly that afternoon didn't ya.... But you have a great point there. It's NOT that simple. I've carried flies in and tied the first one on and couldn't keep 'em off it, then the next time tied every fly in my box with not a hit. There is no real set rule and one guy will tell you scuds, the next one streamers, the next one dries... It all boils down to this... Just like the plug chunkers, fly flingers have to adapt, improvise, and overcome for the conditions. I take some scuds, some streamers, some dries, some emergers, some eggs, some... well, you get the idea. But I have a C&F fly box that holds a lot of flies and I have a few of each. The best advice is to fish whatever you fish the right way... and then if you don't catch 'em, it's the fish's fault!!!!!
  14. This is per Michael Ames, President of SOC FFF: The link provided is to an online shopping mall the SOC will receive income if people shop through the web address set up for the SOC -- take a look and pass it on to as many people as you can -- the SOC gets credit for hits as well http://www.ourgvmall.com/Shopping/ShopMall...31745&SBI=0
  15. Now I KNOW Ducky's gettin' a good woman... She's a good ol' Arkansas girl!!! What camera are you shooting, Ecce?
  16. Yeah, but it's a sweetheart of a gun, huh? Have one myself. I'd like to have a slug barrel for it. Maybe someday...
  17. Wow... this is a loaded question ... I hope you got enough information that you didn't do anything to your 870 this weekend... Slugs and buckshot are both legal in Arkansas. Buckshot have gone out of favor because of the advancement over the past several years in slugs and barrels. But buckshot is still very effective in the right situation and does have knockdown power contrary to what some might think. Effective range of buckshot is much shorter than a slug for sure. Several considerations must be taken into account when considering using a slug in a gun though... 1. Which 870 do you have and what barrel? An older 870 with a fixed choke will have to have a CYL or IC choke. If it is a screw in type, you can change to either. And I'm assuming you do not have a deer barrel for it. THAT'S the BEST choice. I would not make a habit of firing slugs through any "standard" barrel. Buy a good deer barrel for that. 2. The slug should be a rifled slug unless you are using a deer barrel (rifled barrel) on the shotgun. Then use a straight slug. 3. Slugs can be effective even up to 150-200 yards in the right gun/barrel/shell combination. But assuming the barrel you have is not a deer barrel, and the fact that it is not "sighted in" I would not take a shot more than 50 yards. 4. Consider purchasing a single shot deer rifle for just such occasions. In most cases, I hunt with guys who are more than willing to lend me a gun for a day or weekend. That's an even cheaper option... Of course, they tend to price it to me on Sunday afternoon.... LOL Good luck...
  18. I've used several lures and have come to the conclusion that they are all made to lure the hunter to the store and not the deer to the stand. I gave in and tried another one this year that was a "doe in estrus" that would bring 'em in... Well, it didn't. I did not see a buck all weekend. Saw does, but they didn't come for the lure. I have had the most luck with salt licks and molasses. I've noticed over the years of living on a cattle farm and hunting for 40 years that deer really do like the smell of sorghum molasses. Put some cattle feed made with molasses out sometimes and watch the deer fight over it... The catch is that you have scent out, the next guy has scent out, and the next, and so on and so forth. So, no matter what you use, it comes down to the pattern of the deer in your area and how you can "modify" that pattern. Right now, it's pretty much a matter of luck because the deer have so many White Oak acorns (at least on my place) that they don't even want any kind of food - even my food plot is getting little attention. There was some chasing going on, but still think we're a week early into the rut. But, with all that going on, I had deer coming under my stand (all does, but hey... ) and every one of them stopped to take a smell and lick at my salt lick which I had just freshened the afternoon before. I will say that the best way to get bucks to your place this time of year is to get the does coming there. The more "at home" the does feel, the more they will stay around. And the more they stay around, the more the bucks will come around... Here's a deer lick recipe I use which saves a bunch of money over the other stuff and is pretty much the same.... Maybe they should call this Deer Crack.... This makes 5 gallons- 5 Gallon bucket Boil about 3 gallons of water - Boiling water will dissolve more of the ingredients 6 lbs Iodized salt (or buy cattle salt or rock salt) 2 cups Baking Soda 1.5 Cups Baking Powder 18 oz. Molasses Potassium Gluconate (20 - 500mg Tablets) Magnesium (10 - 250mg Tablets) Add more water to fill the bucket (about another 2 gallons) Clear a patch of ground about 2-3 ft sq - minor dirt disturbance to aid absorption. Pour concoction onto bare soil and let it soak in. As the liquid cools some of the ingredients may precipitate out of solution - not a problem - pour that stuff right on top of the wet soil. Refresh every 30-60 days. Also, put a bag or block of mineral salt down before pouring the mixture at least once or twice a year. Don't mix this in a closed container. It will foam like baking soda and vinegar...
  19. Yeah, but does she love to sleep in the truck and live on Krispy Kreames and Mountain Dew? Can she make leaders? Can she row? Can she net? Will she give up a productive hole for you to fish? Can she spot big Browns? Does she know the difference in an Albright knot and a Double Surgeon's? And most importantly, does she use the metric system to measure, but claim centimeters are inches? (For the FISH length.... get your mind outta the gutter!!!!) These are very important questions that must be answered prior to the vows... Congrats, Ducky Dude.... Condolences, DDsMC....
  20. Wow... Nice pictures of a great looking trip! Old age and bad knees and back won't let me do that anymore, but would love to do it again... Thanks for sharing... I was at Boxley canyon Saturday afternoon looking at the elk myself. Did you see any?
  21. Or possibly Beaver tailwaters... or both...
  22. This is just the kind of thing that feeds the PETA and similar forces. Sad that people have so much disrespect for the sport, but there are way too many people out there who are only in it to get as much as they can get away with. Another reason I will only go during C&R season myself.
  23. My mom always used all three names... My dad would add a new name... Until I was 10, I thought my real first name was "Dammit."
  24. Yep... Grandkids are the best. Congrats Oneshot... Oh... was that at Cox or St John's? You're better off at St John's cuz we're only a couple of blocks from BassPro... in case you need those infant size camo items...
  25. Who's this "Phillip" you speak of? Next, we'll be talking about "Flip Lilley..." I'm with you, Phil. I'd rather read about hunting and fishing from someone who hunts and fishes... Oh well....
