  1. Yep... depending on the age of the gun, there could be some problems with using steel shot. I would recommend what JD said... Get in touch with Winchester and see what they say. You might do well to see about a "new" barrel for the gun with interchangeable chokes for hunting and keep the old barrel for the collector side.
  2. I changed some light bulbs in my kitchen last night... Used GE Soft Lites. 40 W. I think they are the best ever. Flooressents (<--- notice how I spelled this word) are hard on your eyes. What has this got to do with fishing? (How many on that list did I use?) Funny post, Caddy... Thanks for the laugh...
  3. How 'bout a possum and armadillo section! I love huntin' them buggers.... Seriously, JD has a good set up, but I would separate Big Game and Turkey...
  4. Thom, I use http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/ (added to my favorites) and have no problems getting to the forum.

    Turkey

Nice bird, Slider... I've had turkey almost come up and peck the crumbs off my shirt in the Fall... But still not an easy take with a bow. You need to be in a stand, but that's still no guarantee.
  6. I totally agree with your decision, Phil... Of course, I never was tempted to open any of those threads myself. Total waste of time... I'm so sick of elections and politics anyway. Can't wait for Nov 5th... the day it's all over but the crying...
  7. Purty pics of purty pheeshes in purty country, Jeff... How many songs did you write while there? GOTTA be inspired to cut some licks when in that situation...
  8. That Jerod's shore gotta purty mouf... Can yew squeal like a pig?
  9. OK Fellow Geeks... Some of you may already have seen this... Go to www.maps.google.com Type in 2100 Wilburn Rd, Heber Springs, AR Change to the "STREET VIEW" at the top of the map Is that Maddog Mike?
  10. I like this one better for Taney....
  11. Click here and enjoy a great podcast by Larry Murphy about Conclave and what you missed...
  12. Click here to read "The Spit and Whittle Club"
  13. I have heard a lot of "skeptical optimism" or "optmistic skepticism" about the new soles that Simms introduced at the fly fishing show in Denver. I have not tried them yet, but the Simms guys swear by them. Of course, they are SELLING them... I know the idea is great, but I don't know if I want to invest my money on version 1.0. I may wait until at least SP2 or version 2.5 is out...
  14. OK... after a second reading, I did sound confusing... Yeah... the BROWN run... But as for stripers, I guess I thought they tended to get close to the creeks just before fall hits.
  15. Zach... Have you fished Dry Run Creek? NFW is a great stream, but you can fish it after you turn 16. Just want you to get the chance to fish DRC before then. Brian... Does it look like it's time to get ready for the run? And getting closer to the lake, could you not target stripers?
  16. John? New Job? Phil... If we have a couple of fish cookers, we may not need a heater. But then again, it won't hurt...
  17. Soggy, It's open to anyone, but you get a discount if you are an FFF member.
  18. Well, this year's conclave has come and gone. I'm exhausted, but gratified in what we accomplished over the weekend. Michael Kyle did a great job as Conclave Chair this year putting together a team of people that got the job done. Because of him, Kelly Galloup and Tim Rajeff may just be back for more conclave in the future. If you missed Conclave, here are some highlights from my perspective: Seeing old friends. Meeting new friends. Getting to pull the ClackaCraft drift boat from Springfield to Mountain Home. Sigmund – and all his “uncles.” Thursday night dinner by the Texas Contention. The auction - always entertaining and lots of great stuff!!! Friday night dinner and party at Copper John’s with the Kansas Contention. Barry Dauphin’s hot peanuts. FREE popcorn! Hearing a first time Conclaver from Mississippi talk about being like a “kid in a candy store!” Cary Marcus’ TFO cap. Opening Saturday morning early enough to go out and cast a few rods in the casting pond before anyone else got there. The guys from Project Healing Waters and the outrageous flies! Dennis Slane’s dutch oven lunch. My wife’s first casting lesson with Jeff Trigg Cindy’s SECOND casting lesson with Tim Rajeff Beer with the guides and vendors by the back door. Watching them scatter when the guard – a Baxter County Deputy – showed up. “Does my beer smell funny to you?” Kelly Galloup’s Saturday night program – HILARIOUS! You guys missed it! Plan now to attend the '09 Conclave.... you won't be sorry...
  19. Michael... The problem is a loose nut.... between the keyboard and the chair... Go to tools, internet options and click on the "delete" button by the browsing history. Delete temp files and cookies. See if that helps. If not, I'm assuming an I D ten T error.... ID10T.....
  20. Nice photos, Phil. Hey Ducky... Had several ask about you at Conclave.
  21. I was at the farm this weekend and left my gear at home because of Ike thinking it would be a wash for the weekend. I had planned on heading to Rim Saturday morning. Just goes to show you...
  22. I had lunch at Riverbend Restaurant at Mammoth Sping Sunday and the look of the river was such that it did not inspire me to wet a line. The Spring can be finicky to say the least but is great when it's great. The canoe hatch is a bummer, but you just have to fish around it. Lower (Bayou Access) early in the morning, Lassiter during the day, Dam 3 in the afternoon, back to Bayou late afternoon evening.

    Acorns

Actually, acorns are edible. I'm not sure where you got the idea that they kill cows. Deer eat them like candy and have the same gastric system as cows. Some acorns contain cyanide, but not those on oak trees. They only contain tannis which makes them taste bitter. Oak acorns can be used like flour if you boil them first (to get rid of the bitter tannis) and dried, then pounded into a flour. Makes a nutty flavored bread when mixed with wheat flour. The acorn crop has a way of providing food for nature. The different oak trees produce in cycles. You may not see many acorns in one area where one type of oak is dominant. The next area that has a different type, will have a big crop. The white oaks I've seen on our place in Arkansas are pretty heavy with acorns.
  24. Pot..... kettle.... black... Happy Birthday guys...
