  1. It must not fit him, Duane... Good story... good fishin'... good pics... What was that top secret fly hanging out of that 'Bow's mouth I saw there?
  2. Well, I found out today the "interview" I had today was cancelled. Then, I found out by accident that I am not getting the permanent position at St John's... So I'm out on the market. Last day at St John's is the 14th... if not before...
  3. In "marketing 101" class, it's known as the "Ol' bait and switch" trick... The Sunday ads are usually chocked full of them... Especially between Thanksgiving and New Years....
  4. The best advice is to get a lesson, preferably from a certified casting instructor or at least from someone at a fly shop who can give you good lessons. It will make all the difference in the world to have someone show you in person how to better your cast. You'll then be in on the secret that all non-fly fishermen never find out... They think it's hard work casting that thing all day. Truth is, it's very little effort at all when done correctly.

    Tent

Hey Mike... I was wondering who's tent that actually was in the picture... I KNOW Don didn't take the time to set one up...

Yeah, I'm at that age where I prefer to "rough it" in a "Hampton Inn..." But I do love sitting around a campfire, fried taters and bacon on the camp stove, and all the other joys of being out there.
  7. My ex use to wonder why I had to have 26 different guns in my collection and granted, one good 12 ga shotgun will hunt most anything you want to go after. The same could be said for fly rods. If I had to narrow my collection down to one, it would probably be a 5 wt which is pretty versatile alright... But I have 3 wt up to 8 wt rods. I love my li'l 3wt for small creeks and bluegill fishing. And hanging a nice trout on it is a good challenge. And honestly, you should be able to land larger fish on a good 3 wt. My 4 wt I got at a Conclave auction and turned out to be a really great nymphing rod for high sticking. I have a couple of 5 wt rods and am looking at upgrading to another. These are good general fishing rods that I usually use for trout fishinig during the day when I may change from nymphs to streamers to dries. But I want the third one to be a 9 ft mid-fast to fast action rod (I'm leaning towards Sage FLi for this...) for a good streamer rod. My 6 wt is a shorty that I am saving for smallmouth fishing. It has a 6 wt line on it, but casts 5 wt lines well and can handle 4 wt on short casts. I gear it up according to where I'm fishing and for what. I have two 8 wt TFOs that I'm thinking of deciding on one to keep and then replace the other with a 7 wt... Just to complete the lineup... These are mostly for my night fishing for the big gals on Taney stripping bigger streamers. So, in answer to your question, I think you'll find that it's not just the line weight of the rod, but a combination of things like length, action, etc. that makes a rod what it is. In other words, go for the 3 wt, but think about what you want from it and gear the other specs to that. Don't just go out and buy any ol' 3 wt that comes along.
  8. Well, happy birthday again, Tim... (They don't stop coming... at least you don't want them to stop... )
  9. Yeah, Dano... I think they want me to audition to do their commercials. They said I looked a lot like a famous used car salesman who did commercials years ago... Something about Samples Used Cars or somethin'... And they want me to go to Big Smith to get my wardrobe.... Know who they might be talking about?
  10. With all the rain in January and February, it seems all the White system dams are running full bore except Beaver has slowed down the past several days. Here's to a few hours of "the number of units is zero" this weekend for you...
  11. It could be argued that over half the cities, counties, streets, buildings, etc. are named after one or more of the following: Slave owners Whoremongers Drunks Drug addicts Communists Bigots It's all a matter of perspective and marketing...
  12. My contract with Mercy (St John's) runs out in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking for employment - AGAIN... There is a potential I could get one of the few permanent positions with Mercy, but I'm not counting on that right now. But I will know by the 11th. In the meantime, I got a call today about a job with Reliable Imports in Springfield. I also just got an email to apply for a Quality Engineer job, but not sure if it is in the area or not. It just said in Missouri. Anyway, just asking that you guys keep me in your prayers for the right job to come across. I don't know if I can face the unemployment line again. At least my house in Jonesboro sold, so that payment will not be facing me every month. Gotta get a good job so I can stay in the area and buy that new Sage rod I'm looking at...
  13. Happy Birthday Jeremy...
  14. (Pardon my "old western movie tone") Many moons ago the Crowrapahache people lived on bank of river. When white man come, he bring box that make music and big canoe called Sammy Lane. Then white man want to name stream, so name it after big chief of Crowrapapache... Chief Taneycomo.... then trade hunting grounds on river for dry dust flat land in Oklahoma... (Sounds plausable, don't it...?)
  15. Swap meet? Last weekend? In Nixa? Dang... I missed it. They need to advertise that one better. You gonna post your picture in Jethro's seat, Web?
  16. That also applies if you are in the Missouri counties of Barry, Stone, Taney, Ozark, Christian, Greene, Douglas, Webster, Lawrence, etc., etc., etc... Then in Arkansas the counties of Benton, Boone, Carroll, Baxter, Stone, Fulton.... Need I go on? Hey, Wes... Ol' buddy.... Ol' pal.... Does this mean that if I get a ticket on 160 trying to get to Taney or trying to get home on time from Taney before my wife kills me, you can fix the ticket? (I know you can't bring me back to life once my wife kills me...)
  17. Haven't you noticed that Leonard and the van already glow in the dark?
  18. Happy birthday... belated... (better nate than lever?)
  19. Welcome aboard! Several universities have fly fishing clubs including Penn State (I wonder if Joe Humphrey is still a part of that?) Tennessee, Colorado, and others. Also, many of the college towns will have fly fishing clubs that you can join. Dano is right about getting a degree in biology, environmental science, wildlife management, etc. Whatever you study, just do it. You will never regret going on to college or other secondary education for sure.
  20. I see Possum Child seems to be getting along just fine with baby bro... They'll be fishin' buddies for life!!
  21. Jeez, Don... Brian's just a pup... You and me and Dano are the old buzzards... Happy Birthday (a day late) Bud... Gotta go fishin' witcha soon...
  22. Hey Tim... Wanted to say "hi" but didn't get to. Yeah, the store got a bit crowded there around lunch. I like the way Michael has kept the same "feel" and outline of the old store, but with just more room for more stuff! And it's a lot easier to get in and out on my way home!! Oh... and he SHOULD have been giving away donuts and coffee along with free steak dinners as much as I spent in there today!!! GOOD sale. Those that didn't come by missed a good time for sure!
  23. Dry Run Creek is open to all anglers UNDER 16 which means they do not need a license or tag. I've seen adults do the fishing and let the kids land the fish, but the regulations don't allow that. I don't think there would be a problem casting for a little one, but hand the rod over at the point the fly/bait hits the water. It's open year 'round. STRAIGHT FROM WWW.AGFC.COM WEBSITE: Dry Run Creek (from it’s source on the east side of Norfork National Fish Hatchery below Norfork Dam to the confluence with the North Fork of the White River). (1) An angler shall use no more than one fishing rod or pole, and must attend it at all times. No other devices shall be used to catch fish. (2) Catch and Release Stream. All trout caught must be immediately released. (3) Only artificial lures with a single, barbless hooking point shall be used. Natural or scented baits are prohibited. (4) Chumming is prohibited. (5) Fishing is limited to youths under age 16. (6) Fishing is allowed from sunrise to sunset. (7) Fishing from the pier on Dry Run Creek is limited to mobility impaired anglers only. 24. I LOVE Rooster Fries... There is a restaurant in Jonesboro, AR in the Holiday Inn there that serves them. They're hard to find, but oh so good when you do. Doitlookit... Somebody really messed up a good batch of "oysters" if they tasted like liver.
  25. OK... It's late for an ol phart like me... but I haven't had anything stronger than a coke... But John is recording duals? What are duals? As in dual exhausts? And he's BRINGING dinner? He's not bringing home ribeye steaks and cooking them to perfection for you and serving them by candlelight then cleaning the kitchen, doing the dishes, and folding laundry before sweeping you in his arms and carrying you off to bed sprinkled with rose petals with candles around the room? Shame on him!!!
