This is me on my way home with last year's deer...

Working? That reminds ME of when I was single... coming in to work... and not from my house... My head is STILL pounding from some of those nights... Especially those that ended with the "trapped wolf" syndrome... You know... where you try to gnaw off the arm that trapped under the pillow of the 2 you woke up beside and wonder what happened to the 10 you came home with...

One Of The Days That Changed The World.
Terry Beeson replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
Well, I was at work in Monette, AR and walking toward my office when another manager met me in the hallway and said "Did you hear they bombed New York?" I thought it was a joke and waited on the punchline... but there was none... I got online and found Yahoo financial news out of Asia (Japan I think) to be the only online news you could get. Got home that afternoon and started taking inventory of my arsenal... JUST in case.... -
Yup.... Makin' my neck swell up...

Welcome Whiskey... What chocolate do you use? I'm betting you don't make your own and mill your own cacao beans... What percent cacao is your darkest?

A lady comes up to a cop and exclaims she had just been violated by a man from Texas. He asked her what happened. She replied that he snuck up behind her, put a bag over her head so she couldn't see him, then proceeded to take advantage.... "It was a man from Texas!" The cop asks, "Excuse me ma'am, but if you couldn't see him, how do you know he was from Texas?" "Well," she said, "he had a great big belt buckle, and a little bitty..."

My "happy hunting ground" is all in Arkansas, so I'll have to wait for October 1 for my bow hunting. Since that's on a Monday, I'll be waiting for Friday the 7th. I went down last Friday and added some salt to the salt lick, and planted some turnips and peas for a late crop... ahem... Did see several deer around my stand Saturday morning, but I'm sure they will get wise by October... Anyone use anything like salt licks, deer cocaine, attractants other than food plots and any success?

Me too, Don... I'm not sure what that means, but hey... I didn't get worried. But when I got up, turned on the TV, and heard Clever had been hit and Cassville was under a tornado warning, it woke me up...

Hey Matt!!!!... Can I fill in the blank? Can I? Huh? Huh? Can I? C'mon!!!! Pleeeeeeze? His name is Matt Tucker and he is a great fly fisherman!!! Good to see you here, Tucker... The fly fishing intelligence level on this forum just went up a notch for sure... (that negates the drop in level when I joined... ) Been down to the Spring River lately? I haven't fished it in so long I wouldn't know Dam 3 from Bayou... Now that you're here, you gotta join the Taneycomo Slow Strippers Club... -
Thom... you second to last sentence speaks volumes. Parents have a "not my kid" attitude when it comes to these things. You must be very careful when dealing with parents, especially if you do not know them very well. I've been in similar situations myself and going to the authorities is the key here. Thom's use of registered mail is a good one, although I've never had to use that. Recently, there was some "name calling" that went on with my step-daughter at a sleep-over. The girls are all into horses and have their horses at a stables run by a lady who they all look up to. Well, Cindy made a call to this lady and she asked each girl about it and long story short, the girls are back in good graces with each other. I guess what I'm saying is that having some sort of "arbitrator" is the best recourse in a situation like this. Of course, decking the kid would feel good until the cops put you in jail...

Are all you "Cleverites" and "Cassvillians" OK? They're talking rough weather with some damage in Clever at the bank. Hope you guys are all OK...

I had some ground venison (with bacon) in the freezer that needed something done to it. My wife was talking to a patient about it and he suggested this recipe for summer sausage. I made some yesterday and MAN OH MAN is it good stuff!!! You can "play around" with the spices a bit to get a flavor you want. This will be a good snack in the deer stand while waiting for the kill shot to take effect... SPICY SUMMER SAUSAGE 3 lb. Ground beef, pork, venison, or mixture. 1 C cold water 2 Tbs Morton Tender Quick salt 1 Tbs Liquid smoke 1 Tbs Garlic juice 1 Tbs Onion powder 1 Tbs Mustard seeds 1 tsp Ground cumin 1 tsp Red pepper flakes 1 tsp Cajun Louisiana seasoning blend 1 tsp Black pepper In large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Roll into 4 rolls of equal size. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 24 hours Unwrap rolls, place on baking rack. Bake at 300 ° F for 1 ½ hours. Cool and wrap in aluminum foil. Refrigerate or freeze.

Good and very interesting read,,, This, sadly, is an ever-increasing trend in our world today. One quote that really caught my eye was one concerning "only 10% of students want to fish or hunt." We are becoming a society that puts more value on competitive sports than on the sportsmanship and stewardship of our natural resources that hunting and fishing promote. But we EXPECT MDC to be the recruiters of new hunters and anglers when it is the responsibility of parents and the hunters and anglers themselves to introduce young people to our passion. How many of us have taken the time to take a youngster to the woods or the water (outside of our own family?) Do you volunteer for fishing derbies, classes, shooting events, etc. that cater to this? DU, FFF, and other organizations offer programs geared to the development of young people who ARE THE FUTURE of hunting and fishing. "Tree huggers" and hunters and fishermen CAN co-exist and SHOULD do so. We all value our natural resources even if we disagree on many finer points. But those individuals who disregard regulations only add fuel to the fire used by those opposed to hunting and agling. This will continue until these people change and begin to understand the value of self-regulation. The MDC website states: "Our mission... To protect and manage the fish, forest, and wildlife resources of the state, To serve the public and facilitate their participation in resource management activities, To provide opportunity for all citizens to use, enjoy, and learn about fish, forest, and wildlife resources." Yes, the MDC is for ALL of us... Fishermen, hunters, trappers, and everyone else. Yes, we must all share the MDC. However, the definition of "sharing" seems to be clouded by those who oppose hunting and fishing. We have a duty to educate those people as well. No, you will probably not change the views of someone who supports PETA. But at the same time, we must take the lead in promoting the sports as just that - sports - and not the brutal inconsiderate actions many view them to be. Our government operates on the system of special interest groups and the almighty vote. Money does talk and a huge campaign contribution will buy a lot. For this reason, we must all do as much as we can to support those special interest groups that will be OUR voice in Jefferson City and Washington. Joining and contributing to (money AND time) the NRA, FFF, TU, DU, NWTF, BASS, and other organizations will give you a voice in the political arena. I encourage you to write, call, or email Gov. Blunt if you disagree with his appointments to the commission. It may not change things now, but if he sees a trend of voters turning to someone who WILL support our beliefs, he might think twice about future appointments.
