  1. Hmmmm.... she did better than I... .... Wait... that's not that funny... But cute video for sure... thanks Phil...
  2. A rose is a rose is a rose... Does it really matter what you call it as long as it catches fish? As far as I am concerned there are really no new flies out there.
  3. Hey Stumbler... have you convinced her those size 24 hooks are an inch long yet?
  4. Yeah, my eyes are pretty bad... Pam can you tie up a couple dozen for me too? But, hey... if he got out of there and only bought hooks, you're very fotunate... Michael is very persuasive... You sure he didn't buy a new rod, reel, vest, waders, boots, gear bag, fly box, sun glasses, vise, tools, and a box full of material? Ooops... maybe I shouldn't have said that...
  5. If you tie a "wet" with the right hook, no weight, right materials, and keep it relatively dry, it will float... I've got wooly buggers that float just fine.... Crackle backs come to mind... fish 'em dry... fish 'em wet...
  6. b-man, Not to disagree with you at all... Your technique may work well for you and there are several guys I know who use those tactics successfully.... However, my opinion is a bit different. I use to bass fish a lot and would watch guys run their boats up to a spot, cast a couple of times, not get anything, fire up the motor, and run to another spot. All of that time running the boat (or walking) cant take up valuable "lure in the water" time. If your bait ain't in the water, you ain't fishin'... I've compared notes with bass fishermen and most of the time would have outfished the "run and gun" fisherman by working an area and not moving so much... By the same token, I've fished a tail water hole for hours without bringing in a big fish, then all the sudden, "Big Momma" decides it's HER turn to eat... Maybe she cruised into the hole or maybe she was sitting there all along watching the little ones eat. I recently made over 30 casts to a sizeable trout before she took my fly. But she finally did take it... Now, I assume you are casting as you are moving, which is a bit different from "run and gun." But my theory is you are covering more water, but not necessarily casting to more fish. Yes, if the big one is not feeding at the moment, putting a bait in front of his nose 4 or 5 times will do you no good. But just keep working that fish with some patience and sooner or later he is going to either get tired of that lure or get hungry. It can be frustrating, but rewarding at the end. As for skinny water (no units running below the dam) you should reconsider. That can, at times, be the MOST productive water in any tail water. Trout are funny creatures and can be feeding in 3-4 inches of water - their bellies dragging the bottom and their fins and part of their backs above the surface. Some of my best days/nights on Taney have been in water barely knee deep or less. My walking distance is limited nowdays too (ain't gettin' old great? ) but I will still move from a hole that isn't producing (after 15-20 casts) to another one. Just don't seem to go as far now... Sometimes I wish you could take a picture of a stretch of water and mark dots with sizes of fish to show the concentration of fish. I think there are a lot of guys who would be very surprised just how many fish their baits pass with a turned up nose... Again... no disrespect to your techniques... Just my opinions... for what they are worth.... and that ain't much...

    Homemade salsa

Abuse? You call that abuse? I'll show you abuse... Just kiddin' Rich... I actually make a great bruschetta with a similar machine... Bruschetta = Italian salsa... Speaking of which, take some french bread slices, toast both sides, put some salsa on one side, top with cheese (cheddar, monterey jack, or mixutre) and toast in the oven until the cheese melts... GREAT appetizer...
  8. "Yesturday I kuddint spall kollege stoodint... Tewday I R wun!!!" Welcome to the forum and fly fishing. Keep getting all the education you can muster. It will pay off in the long run, believe me...
  9. I followed in the footsteps of my childhood hero, Ray Lincoln (Morning DJ at KAAY) who was a "Weekend Gynecologist".... But I think this is more of a "fry cook" type position...
  10. OK, Tim.... 'fess up.... do you bake or BBQ?
  11. Oh... wait... you're serious... Just kidding... There is a generation schedule posted for all the SWPA dams found at http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx but is not all that reliable (therefore, the "joke" if you will...) But it does give SOME insight as to what they are "THINKING" about generating. If you take the scheduled generation cubed times the temperature F plus the humidity divided by the chance of rain, then find the algorithm of the supervisor's birthday times the number of fish caught that day factorial to the negative power of the number of fishermen at the time divided by three, you'll have a pretty good idea if they are going to generate or not... Seriously, if you view the schedule and then get the lake and tailwater levels by phone, you will have a medium chance of predicting generation. With this heat, SWPA is getting close to capacity, so expect generation most of the afternoons...
  12. She's find, now, Mike... thanks... She gave us a scare with a blood sugar over 600 (120 is normal) and high ketones, but the folks at St John's PICU got her back on her pegs and home in less than 24 hours...
  13. I know there seems to be several IT type guys on here. I have a while to think about this question, but would appreciate ya'll's input. For my CIT degree, I will have to take three Programming Language electives from this list: COBOL C++ Programmiing and Analysis Visual Programming Java Beginning or Advanced RPG Of these, which three would you say are probably going to be more valuable to me in about 18 months to two years in getting a good position - emphasis on the medical and/or banking industry... Thanks in advance, guys...
  14. Why? Couldn't resist... But I bet you can get down around downtown Branson or lower and you'll find plenty of Crappie and Bass action...
  15. I knew possum had to be good for somethin' besides just bake 'em and eat 'em...
  16. Thanks guys... Ronnie, I know the feeling... been there, done that. I think I have less time to fish looking for a job than I did working full time... I haven't even been fishing Taney since I was laid off...
  17. Well, looks like those of you praying that I would go back to Arkansas are out of luck... My prayer has been to stay in SW MO or NW AR and to get out of manufacturing. I'm tired of going to work for companies that slow down or close down because of competition/moves to Mexico, China, etc. I've had jobs with five companies now that have either shut down or gone to "bare bones" due to overseas competition. That has played havoc on me and my family both emotionally and finacially. Moving to Nixa last year was a good move in several ways, especially with my step-daughter being diabetic. We're only minutes from a hospital and pediatric endocrinologist who can take care of any emergencies... (We had to put her in the hospital overnight Sunday due to her going into what is called "DKA.") The fact that I'm a short drive from Taneycomo is not a bad thing either... And Cindy does like it here, too... Well, God has put a couple of things in my path that fit right in. I start classes at OTC next week. Since Northop Grumman closed due to overseas competition, I qualify for federal money to send me back to school for training. I'll be working on an Associates degree in Computer Information Technology. Then, He had my lovely bride put something else in front of me. She encouraged me to go to a job fair yesterday for Sisters of Mercy Health Systems (St John's parent) and they hired me on the spot. Only thing is the job doesn't start until October 29th and is a temorary hire. But, God willing, it can and will turn into a permanent position with them. They say I have the background and experience that will really fit in with the program they are working on and with my CIT training, that will make it even easier to get into something more permanent... (I do pray that His will be done and I do get that permanent position with them.) Anyway, I am still looking for something that will help supplement my income until October 29. I can draw unemployment in that time, but that's not going to pay all the bills even with Cindy's income. But I know He'll see us through this and provide... as He always has and does... So I'll be staying in Nixa for a while anyway... (All the glory to GOD! God is good!... All the time! And... All the time... God is good!!!)
  18. Welcome to the forum and the fly fishing obsession...
  19. Slab knocker? There's an "off color" joke in there... but I'll refrain... I use to use a "Crappie Stinger" which was a jig with only one tail that was deadly on the lake I use to fish...
  20. Welcome aboard...
  21. A 9wt will fling some big flies for sure. For stripping, most of us use a WF floating line with some adding a sink tip or sinking leader (flourocarbon) at the end. You can cast some pretty big flies with a good 5wt rod, but 7-8wt is better for big honkin' flies. A 9wt might be a bit too much, but will work. Honestly, I've never seen the need for a sinking line in a shallow river... Sink tip or leader in deeper pools, maybe. Shooting line only if you want to really reach out and touch someone and can cast well enough to use it. For some reason, I like my fly to ride up in the water column above the bottom, so I opt for an 5 wt or 8wt rod with WFF line and standard mono tapered leader or some 20lb Amnesia with a long "tippet" of Vanish or Maxum in the 2-8 lb range depending on flies and conditions. Just seems to work for me.
  22. Lemme tell ya... Ain't NUTHIN'.... I mean NUTHIN' like seeing the smiles on the faces of those youngsters when they land one of those monster DRC pheeshes.... NUTHIN'..... And if you'd like to get in on the fun, just volunteer to help with the Youth Conclave at the Conclave this October... I've done it the last two years and it is the BEST part of Conclave... Of course you have to deal with seeing all those big ol' big pheeshes swimmin' around and knowing that YOU CAN'T FISH THERE!!!! 'CUZ YEW'RE TOOO DANG OLD!!!!!
  23. For those of you who doubt the existance of the squid... Well, maybe the Giant Taneycomo Man Eating SHARK will get your attention...
  24. Seymour Rogersville (I think it was around Fordland?) area on Hwy 60 is where it's suppose to be, but there is a big opposition and it will probably be tied up for a while.
  25. I went bank fishing one time... But didn't catch a bank one... Hey Randy... that's OK... but you need to get out of that stagnate ol' lake water and get in some real fishin' water... waist deep.... below the dam...
